@@AbbyTayu yeah, when he first confessed that he was a stalker. in that moment she has to pretend she's not upset because she's worried he might kill her. Once she's out of that situation alive she can tell him the truth: that she doesn't want to be with him, get a restraining order, tell the world the story here, and hopefully move on. We have fight, flight, freeze, or friend. I have had to use the friend one myself to get away from someone sexually assaulting me. Who then immediately lied about it when I told someone. Who then laughed at us and talked about us being bf/gf. you do what you have to, to survive.
@AbbyTayu2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree you should either go full deception or full honesty. I think hinting is a bad idea, which is why I'm skeptical that Anna offered hints. If you are alone with your predator and think he may be aggressive, offering hints of your disinterest may trigger him. If you later decide to reveal the truth from the safety of your home, it's best to be as direct as possible; giving hints may make him think there is still room for you to change your mind. Sorry to hear about your story. It sounds like a scary experience. I was surprised by the behavior of the "someone" you told. Was this a friend? An adult? I expect most people would treat an earnest report of sexual assault seriously. We do need to think critically about why a person might respond that way though. Perhaps they also felt intimidated by the predator and took his side to maximize their own safety. Or perhaps the "someone" was a child or someone who didn't know how to handle the situation, so they pretended it wasn't real, as an easy way out. Sorry if this wasn't a discussion you were looking for, and sorry if it looks like I'm making excuses for everyone besides you. I offer these discussions because I think it's valuable to consider why people don't react the way we want them to, so that we are less surprised when it happens and so that we can think of other strategies to get what we want.

Yeah, sadly a lot of media has given us a warped view of what is romantic. There are a lot of "romantic" movies that are extremely unrealistic, and would be extremely creepy if they happened in real life. As a guy, I know that those movies have affected my way of thinking. The whole, pursue a woman and perform antics to get her attention thing is in my head. Thankfully, it isn't really acted upon, but the influence is there. I don't really know how to go about romancing someone that I'm interested in. I wasn't really taught about it, so I just do the best that I can. I try to be cognizant of a woman's potential concerns. Meeting in public, trying to leave a safe path out, and keeping the lines of communication open. Until I started watching videos like this and learned other things women deal with I was quite ignorant. The thought of harming a woman for rejecting me is one of the last things on my mind. I'm more likely to withdraw and heal than do anything to someone. That said, I also can see how someone as obsessed as the guy mentioned here could be dangerous. I am aware of how that mindset can come about, and that such people can be extremely dangerous. I hope that Anna, and other ladies in similar situations stay safe. I am grateful to Anna and other ladies for sharing their experiences. It is really informative. We need more open conversations about these and other relationship adjacent subjects. Many people have largely been left with media being their only teacher when it comes to romance. Which really doesn't work.
@carlruppert73242 жыл бұрын
Despite the obviously sickening creepiness of this whole ordeal, I will say ONE thing in the stalker's defense: at least he came clean. This isn't a fact that we should dismiss lightly, because, well, you have to admit that he didn't HAVE to come clean, if he didn't want to. Anna didn't suspect any foulplay until his confession, so he could easily have kept the lie going for as long as he wanted. But I believe his conscience got the better of him (yes, really) and he decided to tell Anna the truth, which in my opinion was actually the right thing to do. It's also very clear that he developed genuine feelings for Anna, and started to take the relationship more seriously as time went by. It's just such a shame that he couldn't be honest with her upfront, from the very beginning. If he just told her from the start that he in fact knew her, and that he was a fan, then things would probably have turned out fine. But obviously he was too insecure to tell her that, and probably feared that it would make her reject him.
@AndreaGiuliari Жыл бұрын
I think you're wrong, he came clean about how he met her because he thought that Anna was so much in love with him that she wouldn't find it creepy but romantic, and accept this fact as a cute story of how their romance started. A lot of us will run across a woman, check out their social media, even ask about them if they have people in common (friends, coworkers, family friends, etc.), and do this for a little while before we decide whether or not to pursue them. I remember that you mentioned this experience in one of your old posts on Facebook. The reason I remember this is because it was CREEPY AF. I don’t blame you at all when you lied that it was cool just to get out of the situation. I watched some psychology videos before where they analyzed the situation of ‘fight or flight’ and women are often blamed for not fighting the rapist/attacker. What most don’t understand is that most women have instincts to ‘flight or deceive’ which the latter ensures the victim to slither out of the dangerous situation by acting positively or accepting to the attacker. I’ve personally done this before when I was suddenly on the bed with the guy straddling me from behind, I thought he was so kind to offer me a place to sleep on the couch surfing app after my hostel cancelled on me last minute. I had to pretend it was funny and that I didn’t see it as a vulnerable position to be in (acting innocent and harmless) so that I could secretly start looking for help in th middle of the night and leave first thing in the morning.

He called to ask me out, and at the time I made a lot of acquaintances in that country and I was sure he was probably someone who knew one of them but no, he saw me in passing on the street after I said goodbye to a classmate of mine that I was randomly assigned to do a homework assignment with, and that classmate gave him my number without my permission. He called asking me out and I thought he had a cute accent. He told me how he got my number after I asked him in the middle of the date. That’s when I realized my mistake and when he asked to take a picture with me, regrettably I did because I was freaking out and was trying not to show it, and then I just made an excuse to leave and went home, circling around the blocks a few times to make sure I wasn’t being followed.
