Did you know you could have a stroke in your early 40s and not even know?? In this video I'm catching you up to speed on my life lately... specifically, what I've been up to since being discharged from the hospital a few weeks ago. Its been a litany of doctor's appointments and labs and more weird tests, but I'm finally getting results and answers to a lot of my questions. Im also being fully transparent and laying it all out... im sharing my full list of known diagnoses, and what we still don't know yet. Finally, iI'll let you know what's next on the horizon, and if there's any hope for me to get back to car camping and solo advantures and travels again soon (spoiler, there is!) By sharing this information, you are helping people understand just how hard it is to navigate our medical system. Unless a person has had an aging parent or some other close person who has had major medical issues, people just do not know how messed up our medical system is and just how hard it is to navigate. You have a platform, and you should share. If they do not want to watch, then they are free to click off. You will get through this and be back in your wonderful van and taking pictures of amazing birds. That time will come even if now it does not seem like it will never get there.

I really appreciate you sharing your journey! I have Long Covid, with POTS, brain fog and joint pain, which is a subtype often associated with autoimmune disorders. I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. As I read the description of this video, the mention of “central sensitization syndrome” made all the bells go off in my brain and I actually watched the video from the Mayo Clinic before watching yours. It was so helpful! Even though my health issues aren’t the same as yours, hearing your story is so relatable for me. Best of luck with your journey going forward! I think you have a very good sense of what to share and what not to share. I’m sending you lots of positive thoughts! Oh, PS, your voice sounded much more relaxed when you were in your car than when you were on the couch. You sounded more relaxed and in your body.

Hello Heather, I am so sorry that you are going through these health challenges. I am keeping you in my prayers. My mom suffered from polymyositis, fibromyalgia, fibro rheumatica, lupus for many years but recent tests are not showing any of these diseases but she will have a biopsy to confirm. Many of the tests that you have described she has had as well. In Feb 2024 I received a diagnosis of transverse myelitis-I also had to have a lumbar puncture, lung function test. I greatly appreciate you sharing your experiences because I can relate to some of the challenges that you have been facing. Don't listen to the negativity of those in the comments, continue to share your story as it helps me be specific in my prayers for you. Take care and God bless you 🙏🏽

Chronic migraines can mess up a lot. I have been diagnosed with atypical migraines… I don’t have any pain, so I don’t even know I’m having them. (People use migraine and headache interchangeably, but apparently a migraine isn’t the headache itself… it’s a vascular change that can cause a specific kind of headache, but doesn’t always. The headache isn’t the migraine. The migraine causes a headache.) It started out when they thought I had a stroke.. I passed out and came to groggy with trouble speaking and using my arms and legs. After inpatient rehab and a barrage of tests at two different hospitals, including an epilepsy study, they found three “white spots” on my brain. They told me the same thing they told you; chronic migraines or MS. They have since ruled out MS. Long story short, at some point I had such bad migraines (with no pain) that the affected vessels never fully expanded again, hence the white spots. Now when I get migraines in those same spots, my brain thinks I’m lacking oxygen, and I pass out/have a seizure, depending which doctor you ask. Since two of these spots are in the area that controls motor skills, it can sometimes take days or weeks to fully regain use of my legs. I used to need a wheelchair and then walker after these episode quite frequently, but the older I get, the less it happens. I now know the feeling right before it’s about to happen and if I lie down very quickly, I can prevent it. After trying and hating different migraine meds, a fantastic neuro suggested Effexor (anti anxiety med) off label. Apparently, the compounds that soothe anxiety also calm the nerve synapses that cause my type of migraine. So even though I’ve never had nor been diagnosed with any kind of anxiety, as long as I take my Effexor at exactly the same time every day, I do very, very well. It may worth asking your doc about, Heather.

Thank you so much for sharing your story! It's scary how similar it sounds to my experience! I have started a medication to prevent migraines that *knock on wood* seems to be helping now! I do have another prescription they gave me for if I still end up getting one (as needed) but I haven't had to take one in well over a week!!

Thank you for bringing us up to date. I don't really have the vocabulary to express how sorry I am that you are going through all of this. It truly hurts my heart. But you are doing such a good service to all of us who unfortunately suffer with multiple health issues. You are bringing our struggles out into the open. Navigating the medical system can be an absolute nightmare. And I am always happy when I hear someone talk about how especially difficult invisible illnesses can be. Chronic illness is so very difficult to handle, but when those illnesses are invisible a whole another layer of complexity is added. I truly thank you for pointing that out. It sounds like Mayo clinic is really going to be helping you. The 3-week program sounds fantastic. I continue to send prayers and positive thoughts your way. Do your best... That's all anyone can do 💙

Thank you Anna! Our Healthcare system really is a nightmare. There is so much waiting just to be seen, and then once you are it's a race to how quickly they can get you out the door typically! And you have to fight so hard to advocate for yourself, even when it feels like nobody is listening! I know you understand this all too well though. Hugs!

Wow! Hurricane Helene roared through FL, and now there is Hurricane Heather! Girl, you have been through it all. Getting answers is always a good thing. I’m glad you have confidence that Mayo is moving you in the right direction. The 3-week program sounds like it will help in ways that just going to a zillion appointments might not cover. When multiple things strike at the same time, it’s so hard to get answers. So glad you are sounding more upbeat!

Yes, I'm really looking forward to finally finding something that has a good chance of helping, and even better that it's not just more pills to take! It's so tough when each specialty is only addressing "their" symptoms, knowing that everything is connected. Hopefully this will be the thing that turns stuff around for me finally! Now I just have to wait & keep from getting any worse in the meantime lol!

Oh, sweetheart, I am sending you the biggest hugs! Don't even get me started on the lack of care in the so-called healthcare system! I don't have enough hands or fingers to count the number of times I've needed to knock heads together to get people to do their damn jobs. It's absolutely maddening. And those people who think all this needs to be kept to yourself? The gall. It's not up to them; it's YOUR choice. Also, I totally relate about having a sort of hidden disability. I've been navigating caregivers PTSD after caring for my dad for 10 years before he passed. I might look normal, but my brain was literally broken for over two years. I am MUCH better than I was, but still not 100%, and people just don't understand how I could be having a hard time when I seem normal (seem being the operative word). Anyway, I'm so glad they are finally getting all these tests rolling for you so you can get some answers and a tx plan going. Rooting for you, girl!

This makes me so happy that it's not noticeable anymore! I started using mederna for scarring as soon as it was closed up, and my surgeon did a great job! I do wish I would have massaged the area more once healed though - I think I have some internal scar tissue that irritates me now

Curious did you have the vaccines? If so, I would recommend a detox to get yourself clean of those toxins present in those shots.

I had the initial one and the booster, but I also got Covid for the first time in August 2023 as well.

Wow, Heather. You have had every test imaginable and been through so much this year. I knew Mayo would be a good thing for you because they are simply the best at what they do. I’m happy that you’re going to do the 3 week thing, and learn how best to manage your issues. I sincerely believe that you have gotten yourself to the best place possible for you, and I commend you for your dedication to finding answers. You have done a magnificent job in keeping your head on straight. A lot of people in your position would have just given up by now. You are stronger than you think and your optimism about going forward is a good thing. I admire the strength and courage you have shown and I wish you all of the best. 💙🩵💚

Thank you, truly! I think if it wasn't for my kids I probably would have given up months ago. But it finally feels I might be close to a turning point soon!!
