My Aunt left money in her (and my uncles) will to lots of their nieces and nephews which I'm one of. I used it towards getting a home ... It melts my heart everyday that because of them myself and my son have rooted down 💗 That was my goal, to get a forever home for us both. I think of them everyday 💗💗💗 its so important to find the use that fits ... To know how happy they would be in that knowledge 💗💗💗

As someone who grew up in Australia and lived throughout Asia, I knew USA medical was ridiculously expensive (I've heard the horror stories) so this was really informative and useful for my future cruising plans. Plus I never expected Mexico to have such great medical or ferries, so this really changed my perspective on Mexico! Thanks Heaps!

Medical in America sucks. example your doctor orders an X-ray. They try to bill you for each doctor that look at the X-ray. But if you fight them they back off.

Hi Uma Sailors - this is my 3rd (or 4th) Step. I am a lifelong sailor, instructor, and occasional bareboat charterer. Would love to cruise full time but my mate does not. Writing b/c of the lasik: I had my vision corrected by lasik in 1998. The word I use is 'modern miracle'. (OK, it's a phrase.) It gives you freedom. You think you enjoy it now? Wait 5, 10 years. You will one day see something that you haven't seen since before the surgery and realize that you are seeing much more clearly than you ever did, remember the lasik, and get that grateful feeling all over again as I did just now from watching your story and remembering mine. It is a gift that keeps giving. Now I just need to find the Step that continues the saga of installing the saildrive… ...Thank you for sharing.

I wore glasses from age 11 to around 35 (for myopia) then contacts for 10 yrs. All that time my eyes kept getting worse. Then I saw a famous English swimming star advertise laser surgery. I had just enough money (it was then 1800 pounds for both eyes) and had it done immediately. Like Dan, I was amazed by the result . If you have never worn glasses or contacts you cannot imagine the way it changes your whole lifestyle. My cost included free ongoing treatment for life. I went back once when my left eye went out of focus , and they didn't just fix it , they made it better . No more reading glasses. So from initial op 20 yrs ago to now , with my eyes continually getting worse , not only would I have been blind, but the op paid for itself in savings on continual updates of glasses or contacts. Laser surgery has improved markedly in the last 20 yrs, I have never regretted having it done (the opposite in fact) and thoroughly recommend it

At the time this post published it has been 12 years since I had my lasik and I still regard it as one of the best decisions I ever made! Not needing to put glasses on to see the alarm clock in the morning was probably the best feeling. A close second was not having to put contacts in to play sports! Love watching your adventures.

It’s understandable why it’s dark in that clinic. When I had mine done I didn’t want any light for at least 2 hours. I didn’t realize how much the meds did for the pain either. My first hour was extremely uncomfortable but the nurse told me that before I left they would put my drops in and I would re-apply every hour. Well after 10 minutes I wanted to scratch my eyes out. I muscled through the first hour and put the drops in and immediately (literally 1 second) no pain. With every hour the comfort lasted a little longer and by the 4th hour after the surgery all pain was gone. Many people I talked to said they didn’t experience near the pain I did so... I don’t know. But as far as night vision. Mine is better than ever. I love it.. I almost don’t remember how annoying the glasses and contacts were anymore but I still love being able to see.

Having had lasik after wearing glasses for 40+ years best thing I ever had done. You will need a very good pair of sunglasses. Also avoid rubbing your eyes as much as possible. Working in a dusty environment I used eye drops for years because of discomfort but that was not because of lasik but due to environment. Night vision was a non issue. Diving was so much better since I can see under water. You need to watch and be aware of polluted water so as not to get an eye infection.

Great video guys! I had lasik several years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done. The only downside I've experienced is my eyes tend to dry out a little easier. But that's easily cured with lubricating eye drops. Some other commenters are asking about night glare. For me, that has never been a problem since the surgery. Everything is crisp and clear....as long as I keep my eyes wetted. That was just awesome that you used your mom's money to get something life-changing, that will last forever!

Christopher Stewart + I'm not sure what your age is but you may want to consider having your lenses relaxed much like they do for cataracts. It's different than Lasik and just about as simple. You'll probably need to do this anyway as you get older so you could do it now. Unfortunately you'll have to pay out of pocket and it's about $3,000 per eye. OUCH! PEACE OUT! Ü

Glad to hear you had follow up after the Lasik operation. A small % of patients have their immune system kick trying to attack the lasik cut causing a condition called Sands of Sahara. Prednisone eye drops stop the auto immune response and allow the cut to heal properly. Hopefully you did not have any issues.

Hi Don I just read your comment about troubleshooting the alternator on that other channel. You don't get it. You really don't get it. That guy is a professional ebegger. He just wants free money for nothing! He doesn't care about anything but getting free money without working for it. 99.9 % of what he says is a lie. You should start fact checking what he says... it's all lies. It's. All. Lies. Poor naive folks like you get caught up thinking he means well. What sailor on planet earth, on a 30 ft boat, runs a generator 24/7 besides **g carl? What sailor on earth has a huge box of ENVELOPES taking up precious storage space? **g carl. If you stop taking him seriously and fact check what he says vs. what he does you'll see right through the lying and begging. It's cringe video at its finest. I won't even comment on that channel because it's not a good idea to feed the wildlife, as they become dependent on your handouts. Like I already predicted, and to reiterate, his fantasy is going to come to a grinding halt. And it won't be pretty. You seen like you're an honest guy so I'm giving you honest feedback. Have a nice day.

King of cringe carl- I have to hand it to you oink, You have managed to create the cringiest Channel on KZbin! Did you finish your toilet yet? You know, peel off the lid of a joint compound bucket... hard work, I know. But a lot less work than all that begging and pleading you've been doing for spare change. How's that going by the way? I was impressed with the stalking miss lone star video. I thought you only begged for spare change, but begging for forgiveness, wow. Keep stalking her and maybe she'll come around to your creepy advances ;) How can she be so disinterested in a big successful youtube star like you!? This might be a good time to take that channel of yours behind the barn, and, well you know... But seriously though, when you run out of food, both potato chips and dog kibbles, is eating ms. Lilly a viable option ? They did that on an expedition to anartica when they ran out of food like I'm pretty sure you're about to... What sorts of tricks would you perform for a cheeseburger? Tick tock big guy, times moving quickly. By the way, I heard Don broke up with you... sniff

I cannot imagine the hassle of glasses and sailing all the time - it's bad enough as a deal jockey but every time I go for a day sail my glasses are a mess. Of course you're still going to be wearing sun glasses an awful lot of the time but you don't have to worry about losing them and okay sunnys are a dime a dozen. PS. Glad you didn't have to spend any of that money getting Dan's head put back together again.
