Glad you had your teeth and eyes fixed. My mother sprung for radial keratotomy in the 70's, a procedure referred to as "slash for cash". My surgeon had to learn to be ambidextrous. My one eye was close to 20/20 so I only needed it on one eye = half the normal cost. With the imbalance, I had a very thick lens in the bad eye and nearly nothing in the good one so my glasses spent their life on a noticeable list to starboard. PITA. Contacts in one eye had some unique challenges. I was lucky with the radial K and subsequently became an eye model for colleges in my spare time. My joy was short lived as I was diagnosed with a cataract in one eye which was fixed by the same surgeon and I was a happy camper once again although I needed reading glasses. Fast forward to the 90's when I blew out a retina while on vacation in FL. Called my surgeon who told me not to fly but to have the surgery in FL. My OHIP would have paid the cost of around $2,000 but I couldn't get back so I had a great retina specialist who fixed it in a 6 hour operation (followed by 3 weeks sitting up in bed) for $16,000 covered by the medical plan I luckily took before traveling. Nice vacation -- NOT! Vision returned to the point I could even pass the eye test for a drivers licence with that eye. All was good until a cataract developed on the other eye which made driving or piloting my motor yacht kinda scary but when that was operated on, I was a happy camper again. Don't get me started on teeth... Are you originally from B.C.?

I had PRK done back in 2001. PRK is a form of Lasik where the same procedure is used to shape your lens but the process includes completely removing the eye skin and letting it grow back over a week (It does heal on it's own - and blinking actually helps smooth out the skin layer which is an important part of your visual clarity). Supposedly it protects your eye better in the long run. Regardless, it was the best procedure I ever had done! Unfortunately because I'm so old I started needing glasses for computer work and a slight astigmatism back in 2011. It was still the best 10 years of my life and my uncorrected vision remains so much better than it was prior to the procedure. (AMAZING! I believe you kept saying). This is truly a gift that your mother-in-law would have been so happy to give you. PS - Your reaction was the same as mine was knowing I had the same procedure.Thank you for sharing the procedure video and your reaction! It brought me back to a very happy day in my life! PPS - That smell was HORRIBLE wasn't it? And to know it's literally your lens being burnt away is just terrible!
@rich407016 жыл бұрын
It may be too late but check into mono vision, that's what I have. One eye sees close one sees far away and they adjusted the up close for a typical computer distance. It might be not for everyone but I did it with contacts for years and never have to think about which eye is focusing.

I had PRK done about 6 years ago and it was ok for a couple years. But now I'm back to wearing glasses - for close up. It just reversed my problem, plus now I suffer from dry eyes a lot. I actually opened my eyes too quickly one morning and tore the lining in one because it was so dry - ended up with antibiotic drops, tube of cream to use nightly and an eye patch. Now I keep drops beside the bed and open my eyes slowly just in case they have dried out in the night. Good luck!

All right, that's pretty gross, but it can be worse. When I had lasik I had a huge amount of correction done. It's hard to predict how the eye will heal after so much laser correction, and some weeks after my lasik we determined that we should have a do-over to see if we could get closer to perfect vision. So around 6 weeks after the first sessions, I went back. Like the first time they have to open a flap over the cornea, but this time, instead of the suction thing, he merely takes the tip of a syringe and tears open the not-yet-fully-healed flap from before. With a syringe. In my eye. And I had a front row seat and could see it happening. Good thing I had taken a valium.

You don't know how lucky you are. I had mine done 25 years ago when the procedure was more primitive. In my case the epithelium was removed by hand with a knife. Then the laser was used to reshape. Then it took (in my case 14) days for the epithelium to grow back. All the while I could not see very well. They would only do one eye at a time for me. By the time my second one was done it was more like yours. The only down side is that now your night vision will be a little impaired. Things will be more 'sparkly'. Spikes of light will radiate off of light sources more. Good decision.

I must be an exception because I thought it hurt during and after. I mean it felt like my eyeballs had been drug down the asphalt! The next morning I awoke to find I had knocked off the protective goggles in my sleep and now had blurry vision in one eye. My follow up visit the next day confirmed I had rubbed my eye and wrinkled the flap in my sleep. The following day I had to go to a specialist to pull the flap loose and squeegee it flat to my eye! On a plus note, my eyes are now better than 20/20 and it is awesome not to have to wear contacts or glasses. Would I do it again, yes!

There are many different types of surgery and techniques. The equipment they have in MX is from Europe and is often more advanced than what is in the USA. The FDA slows down a lot of new tech. ive heard different from both sides, for something like this im sure there is a wait unless you pay a fee, for actual health problems, there is not a one year wait, and ive heard some great things about it unlike the us where you only get help if you have lots of money or a great job, or a prisoner. my friend just got back from mexico, got his veneer teeth done for 300 bucks, in the usa it was gonna cost him 12K so yea if youre rich, the us is great if not, you screwed.
