I really feel for this owner. My cockapoo was ‘fired’ from 2 groomers. We tried to brush daily and she hated it with a passion. We started at 9 weeks old. The last groomer said he needed to be fully sedated and left hair hanging off her. I couldn’t find a vet to sedate her and groom. I was at a loss. One groomer agreed to try. She suggested a long walk and small amount lavender oil beforehand. The key? She didn’t hold or tie her down! That was what was terrifying her. She used an ear cover so the hair dryer wouldn’t scare her. She sent me videos of my sweet girl just licking her face while being groomed. I was so thrilled! She never gets matted now. We still at 4 yo are working on brushing as she really hates it. But a great groomer makes all the difference!

Obviously it was a nightmare the next time. But I found that looking him in the eye and being calm and certain, and just calmly talking to him and saying “I’m here I’m right here” calmly helped a lot. Dogs trust their owners, if you’re calm and confident they’ll be more calm, maybe not perfect but calmer

Our dogs will love us regardless! We need to learn to asset some dominance and be the alpha and not allow our pups to control us and tell us what to do. I have 2 Pomskys, one is a Puppy we just got a week ago. I brush daily. Our first experience was rough, by the 3rd day she sat nicely for her brushing. Let them squirm, wiggle, jump and you correct them every time. Redirect them. Don’t allow them to control the situation it’s for the best! These dogs need constant grooming, if they don’t get it then yes, it’ll be hell every time it’s done. Make it easy on yourself. We all watch TV for at least 10 mins a day. Sit down and brush them during some down time!

I admit to maybe my dog getting matted a few times but to this extent I think it’s so cruel! My dog has very bad anxiety and hated her visits with a passion we’d have to literally pull her in and she would wee all over the place we decided to go else where after speaking with the vet when she was having a small operation on her ear,the vet told us even though she had been groomed since she was a pup she was obviously being abused. We changed our groomers after talking around with people we knew and honestly she’s the best person ever you can tell she genuinely loves her job and has a real passion for it! The first time we went she was scared but after a while the women called us back just so we could be with her for comfort and we could already tell the difference. She’s now been going there for 2 years and now she walks straight In with no problem and it’s obvious she didn’t have anxiety it was the groomers and honestly please people search around before getting a do g

Sure it's not let's charge her with animal cruelty yet but poor dog. It's good that she's trying to get help. But I hope she takes brushing and grooming more seriously from now on. @evasraley21095 жыл бұрын
Angie Bigler I think there is a video where a dog was sedated. Truth is is important for them to get trained because you really can’t sedate them every 6-8 weeks. He needs to go back every four weeks even if it’s not a full cut so he can familiarize himself/herself with the process. He is really like some puppies when they first get groomed and they have not been touched on their feet. The owner needs to comb and brush daily. The more she does this the easier it will be next time.

Why doesn't the owner talk to the dog and comfort the dog with some reassuring baby talk? My Rexie is so good but I baby him throughout every ordeal and give him treats and talk softly. Last night I had to use the kitchen hose on his little wee wee since my husband hasn't done a good job (Rexie won't self-clean so the vet said I have to clean him) and he was awkward and uncomfortable being in the sink and tried to jump out, but I kept talking to him in a soft comforting voice and hugged him with my free hand and arm and the dear little angel licked my hand so sweetly. He is anxiety ridden but he melts when I talk softly and reassuringly to him and tell him I am so sorry baby etc etc. Dogs know and understand, believe me, and they appreciate lots of TLC during these stressful times.
@banhithecrow9905 жыл бұрын
Because continually saying "it's OK" and baby talking him is actually reinforcing them being in that state of mind.

@@banhithecrow990 If it is sincere and the dog feels loved and nurtured, it shouldn't cause the dog to continue to be anxious and on the verge of hysteria....that dog is totally unable to cope and probably is terrified and almost disoriented. I have had great results with my tiny fur tot, but he is probably just exceptionally loved and believe me he knows he is loved. Many owners just barely tolerate their dogs and get them trained to the point that they are robotic trained seals or worse yet, clones of their owners as many owners seem to want four legged humans rather than dogs. People need to do better research before they get dogs! If you don't have the time or patience to regularly brush and groom your animal, breeds exist that don't require much coat maintenance. I know people might see a dog and think, "it's cute! I love it!" but you really need to consider if the breed is a responsible choice for your lifestyle. Otherwise, it's not fair to you or the dog. This woman seems like a great owner, I just personally wouldn't be able to handle this type of coat so I've always adopted mutts with shorter, sleeker fur.

The dog could have trauma for grooming after all. It could be better if groomers can take time to recognize dog's feelings rather to focus on job done too much.
