Thank you for your words of wisdom, I wish you health and wellness. I have metastatic urothelial carcinoma, which started in my kidney and later found in my bladder and in my lungs. I have been to Sloan Kettering and am heading to MD Anderson this week. I live in Dallas, as well and am terribly disappointed in UTSW. The oncologist I saw at UTSW gave me a year and had me in tears. I am a fighter, this is not my first cancer and I know outcomes are dependent on faith, attitude, belief in your body to heal and prayers. Sometimes I am so mad at God and I tell him, but he has been with me every step, every surgery, which there has been nine in 2 years. God has protected me from 5 pulmonary embolisms, pleural effusions and infections. Although this has been a difficult journey, there is so much to be grateful for, lessons I have learned.

Prostate cancer started hormone treatment to be followed with brachytherapy then radiation. This will be a little drawn out battle. Asymptomatic on all three cancers (no symptoms whatsoever), came knocking all at the same time. What are the chances of that? So fortunate as my team of doctors/specialist and nurses are the best. Some advice during a hospital stay, bring a noise canceling headset and eye mask . My room was like a wind tunnel with the air exchange, various support personnel in and out of my room 24/7. How can it metastasize to the brain without first appearing on the skin as a small spot growing/changing over time? Some of the previous removals did not get it all out? But how can this be when biopsy looks at borders?
@ab-nm6xi10 күн бұрын
@watershipdown3630 Skin cancer is inscised and sent to biopsy. If the margins are cancer free you are cured. If the margins show cancer, furter incisions are made to remove the residual cancer. If it went too deep based on the biopsied incision, then they stage it, meaning it spred beyond the skin. Since she did not mention this, it appeared that the melanoma just showed up in her brain. I wish her all the best.

@@starrystarrynight6281 Bob Marley had a melanoma under his toenail. It can also hide under your hair. But the lady mentioned she had a long history of melanoma. In that casep, a dermatologist does a cancer screen every 3-6 months. If anything of 0.5mm diameter looks suspecious it is biopsied, including spots under nails.

@@MGMidget73 I am glad you are doing well! So you did not have visible mole/spot on your skin ever? Or by cells escaping you mean there was melanoma removed, the biopsy confirmed it was all removed by looking at healthy boundaries, but still some cells escaped and spread?

@@MGMidget73I see, I didn't think that would be possible, now I know, thank you. What I am now thinking is if the immune system was strong enough to not let a primary site develop, it should've also worked on preventing it on secondary sites. It is the same immune system and it is the same melanoma cells, although the escaped cells from the primary site might've mutated to evade the immune system on the secundary...

Meredith, you have a really unique smile, by the way. Your smile is very beautiful. If I were you, I'd maintain a well-balanced diet. High-fat diets are bad for your heart. Fast forward to Dec 2020 I was diagnosed with stage four metastatic melanoma in my liver and lung. May of 2021 they almost lost me in the ER after going thru a autoimmune response to my immunotherapy. It was the prayers of family and friends that saved me. It's called faith. You might read a book called The Cross and the Switchblade. A movie was made from the book also starring Erik Estrada. Erik played the role of Nicky.
