So true. But when you first get them. They will do certain things that come from trauma. My cat previous owner died and he didn't have food for a week. When we took him. He would eat way too quickly which caused him to throw up. Now he eats normally. But that's just precautions for rescue. Take it slow!

Yes, historically humans domesticated dogs and horses and whatever else but not cats, cats are around us and came to live with us by their choice, not ours. Idk if that means cats domesticated us or they domesticated themselves, but I always think its interesting... we put dogs and horses to work for us at first, now for companionship. Cats we just work for them, in the past, present and future...but we love them regardless.

I wish adoption fees weren’t so high in my area. I’m looking for an older cat as I’m a senior and don’t want to have to worry about the cat outliving me. I’m on a fixed income and they want $50-60 for an older cat. Not that long ago, over 65 could get pets for free or less than $20 to cover testing and vaccinations. Not any more…at least not here.

Got my dog for free, my brother got his cat for free. Cat just showed up in the backyard while we were having a bbq. Probably was a neighbors cat but we lived in the woods and he was pretty small, skinny and dirty. He was so friendly so i encouraged my brother to take him home so he did lol. Vet said he was around 6 month old. My brother has had him for 3 years now. My sisters mom rescued my dog from an abusive situation. She lived in a cage outside and didnt get food or water everyday. She was skinny and had scab marks on her back from chewing. I had 0 expectations with this dog, but she is the best dog and so beautiful. My sister showed her mom a picture of her after she gained weight and her hair grew back and her mom didnt even recognize her.

I picked up mine near a cemetery. I was honestly more of a dog person, but when I saw the tiny wobbling kitten about to cross the busy road, I just had to hit the brakes, park nearby, and pick him up. His right eye was swollen and he was so thin, but after a few weeks of nursing him, he started to gain weight and the swelling slowly subsided. However, the vet says he's permanently blind in that eye. Doesn't matter though, he's our sweet one-eyed Pancho, and he can't get any more handsome. Our 4 dogs love him, too! Adopt don't shop! 💯💕

So true! I have two kitties I found, seriously ill. We battled Asia’s FIV for a year, including several hospitalizations and daily medications. SinSin was covered in bleeding sores, with patches of scraggly, short fur. I now have a tortie and a fluffy flame point Ragdoll lookalike. Better yet, I have two devoted cats who never leave my side whenever I get sick! I am chronically physically ill and struggling with mental illness. I have ESA tags and doctor’s letters for both. One literally holds my hand and the other reminds me to eat and drink, by leading me to food and water. A found cat will never forget who saved them and will save you right back! P.S. Yes, they were both reported to local rescue organizations and neither was claimed.

@sandyclements7183 Cats also get that clingy when you bottle feed them. When I worked as a vet's assistant, it sometimes happened that spaying a wild cat suddenly turned into a c-section. And the mom wasn't always fit to raise her kittens. So we raised them. And it's a different kind of bond you have with an animal, your own hands brought into this world. When you cleaned them up. When you raised it. They're so clingy. It's fascinating how you couldn't even touch the mother because she was wild. And the child is the complete opposite. One of the kittens one of my bosses raised, even went on the walks with the dogs. Always by her side.

I used to go to rescue shelters and pounds in 3 different counties for half a year(bc it wasn’t cat season yet). And I never found the perfect cat until I came across a Vietnamese fb gc giving out kittens for free. I came to the owner’s house and after some time of playing with the kittens, the kitten I had picked out(prior to the visitation) sat on my lap and slept there. Now- she was the most active in her litter which is the complete opposite of what I wanted since I’m mentally disabled. The owner reassured me that she’d be less active and so I adopted her. She’s barely any less active 😂, but I absolutely love her. You’ll meet the perfect cat under the most unforeseen circumstances. $900 for a rescue is WILD though! The most I’ve seen is $300.

@@deffy_chap8669 not $900 worth. you don't put a past lifesaving surgery that high in your "rehoming fee", at that price point it was your choice to euthanize or not, not the rescuer's. the price of the most recent immunizations and the cost of a spay/neuter? maybe, that's the cost the new owner would've had to pay if you hadn't done it, it's the cost a shelter would've been trying to recoup. if the old owner did an expensive "convenience" surgery like declawing maybe, but you shouldn't be encouraging anybody who's charging THAT for "rehoming" because 9/10 they're a breeder using a more friendly words. see 'em on my local craigslist all the time lol.

My best friend's family has had two babies just waltz on in and take their place in the family. As a kitten, one just followed her little brother in the door one day and literally wouldn't leave. Stood there holding the door open for her to leave and she just looked at him like "nah". The past year her family did it again but with a senior cat. The vet thinks he's 15 or a bit older. He just cutely rubbed his head on everything as he followed on the heels of mom and slipped in the house and mom wasn't willing to kick him out. He's gonna have such a cozy and happy last few years.

Eight years ago I rescued a stray that was dumped in the LA river and was reportedly living in a storm drain. She has the beautiful colors of a Himalayan or Ragdoll with the softest fur ever. It was just last month that I discovered she’s a rare Calico Dilute. She has the most incredibly magical blue eyes of any creature I’ve ever seen. All who’ve seen her agree. Even Frank Sinatra would’ve been jealous. About two weeks after rescuing her I received a call begging me to temporarily foster another cat which was supposed to be put down that very day. I agreed to take her in with no intention of keeping her. She was just a year old, just had kittens, had been neglected and had no name. When she arrived, she looked severely malnourished and scared, but she wrapped her paws around my fingers and wouldn’t let go. I fell in love… She was initially frightened of everyone but me but has become more social and has developed the most gorgeous, fluffy coat imaginable. She’s a true beauty. At the time I discovered the type of cat her “sister” is, was the day I discovered that the little fluff of love I took in as a foster is a Siberian cat. They range from $1200 - $4000. None of that matters to me. They have made my house a home and have been the source of such love. They’ve made my troubled life worth living. That, is PRICELESS.

that's how much the humane society charges around here. and it's not even the fault of the shelters. animals have a higher cost of living here and we don't have huge stray populations or puppymills so the majority of adoptable animals are imported from over packed kill shelters, typically by van all the way from California. Dogs can be upwards of $2000 depending on age and breed.
