I genuinely think one of the best things Jeep could have done was continue the LJ into the JK years. 96" wheelbase is great, but even 100" would have been nice. The whole reason the JKL/JLL idea is so cool is because of the ability to keep the two door but have a slightly longer wheelbase. The JKU/JLU is cool and all, but not everyone wants a four door.

yeah i think jeep has missed many opportunities like not continue with the LJ concept and by not making a single cab gladiator

I learned how to shift a manual trans on my Dad's CJ6 when I was 12. He updated it to a CJ6 with a Dauntless V6 in time for me to borrow it when I could drive legally. Fast forward to 2012 when I decided to get a Jeep and at first bought a 2006 TJ with the 4 clyinder and 5 speed. I was able to flog it up to 70 mph, but it bounced back and forth between the front and rear axles because of the short wheelbase and I suffered from lack of A/C, so I sold it to buy a 2006 LJ. The ride smoothed out and the 4 liter engine had the right amount of torque to do almost anything in 2nd gear. I love it.

I would recommend high zinc oil meant for flat tappet cam engines. For any PCM issues look into wranglerfix. A cable transfer case shifter was also one of the best upgrades I've done. If you need better cooling look into a severe duty fan clutch, heavy duty is not the same.

Congrats! Still driving my 06 LJ Rubi I bought way back in 2008. Has a 4" lift and 33s. So cool to see how they just keep increasing in popularity and value every year. Its been my daily driver for 16 years and I could sell it for what I paid for it. Amazing

How cool! I just bought a 2006 LJ Rubi, flew to SLC and drove it back to Golden. I tackled all the easy stuff myself first and now it’s at Garage Works in Englewood getting all the leaks taken care of and overall maintenance done since who knows when it was ever done last! I’m battling a misfire check engine light that hopefully gets figured out soon. I really want to make this a perfect - drive to the trails in Colorado and Utah and then be able to get home afterwards! Finns and Things, Hells Revenge, T-86 crash site… be able to crawl over rocks without being an insane crawler. I sold my 2 door JL Rubi with 37s and got this and a Prius haha!

I have a nearly identical Jeep. It is a unicorn. LJR, white, manual, with cruise and a/c. Mine is moderate build but can easily return to bone stock. Ideal over landing or day use 4x4.

19:05 1. Tires 2. Synthetic winch line 3. Go through the components on that lift. As far as lifts go that one is known to be more on the budget side of the spectrum. I run Currie for everything suspension and steering. Congrats on the new rig. She’s a looker.

I want those wheels for my LJ. They are harder to find - 16". I have the 15" wheels on right now. All vehicles in the northeast will rust, just watch South Main Auto.

The stock TJ Rubicon and maybe the LJ Rubicon did the rubicon trail in testing without mods. The creators wanted a lift and sway bar disconnects, but management said no. Trail rated is based on Jeep’s obstacle course which mimics trail conditions. My open diff Liberty is trail rated and although I want to try it, wouldn’t be able to do the rubicon without a lift and rear locker.

Nice Jeep. I've had my 05 LJ non-Rubi for a few months now. Absolutely love it. In two weeks, I'm driving up to Utah to pick up a hardtop for it. I'm also 6 feet and I've slept in the back, but at an angle.

Wheel it as it sits now and see what you wanna upgrade first. I've seen a lot of people go straight to big tires and lift and still not know how to actually drive there rig.My wife and I wheeled our 05 LJR for years in Colorado on a short arm lift and 33's and wheeled a lot of good trails. Everything from mild to wild. But getting out there and knowing how to drive your rig is the most beneficial. Colorado definitely has enough rock trails to learn how crawl with a manual. But most importantly have fun! And the LJR is the best Jeep ever made!

Nice vid! They were warrantied to 20in of water fording. As a kid I went up to the headlights on one of my TJs without issues. I wouldn’t do that now on my 20 year old TJ until I make it more water ready.

I have an '06 LJR, I'm nearly 6' tall, first upgrade that was a huge QOL improvement was some seat risers. Prior to installing the risers, I was experiencing fatigue in my legs when driving around for as little as 30 minutes. If you're a taller fella, I definitely recommend the risers.

My better half has a 2005 LJ. Great vehicle although it is a bit too computerized and modern for my tastes. You may not know this but that have a Bosch brake system too. These were built during the years Daimler owned them and they really are the best of the modern Jeeps!

I sold my tj that I built in high school when I went to college, ended up buying a stock LJ with 50k miles after I graduated bc I regretted selling my tj. There’s not a chance in hell I’d sell my LJ especially after putting 20k into it. This one stays with me forever and will get passed on to my children.

Have a 2005 LJ Rubicon with 46 k in perfect condition in Colorado. Fantastic condition, always garaged, no rust, no leaks, no accidents. Relatively stock except for functional improvements, no suspension or huge tire mods, great Jeep to build as you like. Have hard & soft tops. Anyone interested?

Build out for camping. Don't go bigger then 33s on that model, not needed and you will start breaking things and running into drivability issues if you do, not worth it. A small 3" lift and you can easily run 33s. Switch to synthetic line on your winch, Stick with an A/T tire for street ability. Good Luck
