When I traded my car in a few years ago the dealer would only give me £10k, there was nothing wrong with it, on his website it was up at £13.5k and it sold quick, so he made 35%. I just sold my car on motorway, I got £12.5k, auto trader valuation was £10.4k so who's right. There's a guy on KZbin only does electric cars, he reckons he only made a grand on each Tesla he sold recently, he couldn't survive if he was doing that, he had staff premises etc. Everyone has to make a profit depends on what you think you can get away with.
@ChopsGarageАй бұрын
I'm surprised I still need to explain this. He did NOT make 35 percent! That's gross profit not net profit. He will of paid 20 percent of that on VAT alone! Then there is Adverts. Warranty, Valeting, Salesman, Property overhead. insurances. income tax (another 40 percent minimum) and you say it needed nothing but there has NEVER in a thousand plus cars ever been a car that needed nothing to retail. He made a Net profit of probably £1000 at best and THEN if there is any repair needed within the next 5 years that could be considered there at point of sale he needs to take it from that.

Back in 2014 I bought a new Touran DSG. I was doing 25-30k per year and used to keep my cars about 5 years. Since Covid I’m doing slightly fewer miles so have kept the Touran which is ‘only’ at 231,000 now. It’s been the cheapest car I’ve ever run. Serviced myself every 9/10k with a DSG service every 37/38k and nothing major has ever gone wrong. It’s taught me not to worry about high mileage with good history. With the current value, I’ll just run it until it suffers a major failure.
