Don't listen to haters. This is a great live set and how the most artists do their live sets. Preparing elements is like preparing instruments before the gig. Great stuff and a lot of insight. :)

Most artist? Actually I know a lot of live guys and most of them wouldn't do it this way. Again, this doesnt mean that its wrong or bad. By the way, no preparing instruments is not the same like preparing tracks with automations were you just have to hit play and everything plays in sync. You still have to play and sync the instrument by your own, this is actually a bad comparison.

@@StotheEtotheB I go to a ton of modular / industrial / live techno shows and almost everyone sequences with Octatrack, preprogrammed KeyStep Pro, or something similar. They swap kick sequences, melodic sequences etc - almost like stems. The part I agree with you is that automations are typically not programmed - but often connected to a single macro knob (like OT crossfader).

it's not haters, just different opinions or way to see things. I understand everyone opinion, I found the term per-recorded a bit extreme but from people doing everything from scratch live it's understandable... Also a lot of artist that are touring all year around the world, do similar than me. Sometime you think everything is live because they have a lot of gear and turn a lot of knob, but sometime they are doing even less then me, just you don't know it because they dont show you the insight of hwat is really happening.... I am honest and transparent, I knew people will say that, but I also don't want people to think you have to do everything from scratch to perform live. Its a similar debate that using samples/preset or creating all yourself when producing ...

@@audioreakt what turns me away and makes me think it's hate is the term "pre-recorded" as it was floating around as accusation of DJs who would not even mix tracks, just pre-record the whole set as a single track and press play. (I don't know if it's true or not, but those accusations come back every few years)

Looking forward to see the final result and also to see how you would evolve it. When I copy "complex" projects (more than 10 tracks with wavetable + fx chains + 10 more for the drum parts (most of them being Simpler with one shots)) from Ableton to Push 3 Standalone, I get some kind of "cpu overload" ; so I totally understand why you would need to group them and render them as audio loops... And that's only for 1 track; so for a full live act; that's another story !

@audioreakt
@audioreakt 7 ай бұрын
I am not sure what you are asking. For the first 8 bar of the track, I will select the first 8 bar and make sure all clip are selected and then consolidate them, then move into the next section, select all the bar I need for this scene, make sure all clip are selected and consolidate them.And so on, once it's done you can just select all and drag and drop into the session view and it should work perfectly. Then in session view you need to activate the loop mode for each clip indeed.

super helpful video man!! great inspiration. is the set all at the same bpm or are there changes ? how would you transition from one track to another with different bpm?
@audioreakt
@audioreakt 5 ай бұрын
no some have 145, other 150 so it's not a big difference, you can automate bpm on the scene launch track (aka master track) that can help. What I will do is to transition from 145 to 150, is the outro loop of the 145bpm track I will increase slightly around 148, then the intro loop of the 150bpm track I will decrease to 148bpm too, so like this the transition scene/loop are in the middle and it avoid a too brutal change...you go from 145 to 148 then 150 into the next track... Then if the gap is too big, I might consider playing the track as a higher bpm, for exemple if I have a track that is 140 bpm by default, when I export it for live, I will export it at 145 or 150..it really depend the track selection, which track I played before, after etc...
@CardioMusic
@CardioMusic 5 ай бұрын
@@audioreakt thanks for the answer man. I thought you would have to automate the change in bpm on every clip. So every audio clip is in warp mode and once you launch the scene everything is in sync with the new bpm, cool. In april I hope I will have more time to produce and I will defintely use this video as a guide to build a live set thank you!

i run serato as conventional decks and then run ableton in two chanels on my xone mixer plus fx sends . having it run into a dj mixer ith built in interface and the fi,lters and fxs the mixer has helps me streamline my live setup especialy for dj ing. i can remix on fly and much more but have it all summing into pro dj mixer with interface helps keep it all in control in live sets for me. and also having serato running as convential decks like cdjs its easier for me too keep everyting all in sync and i have serato fxs also too use

hello, I have a question if you can tell me how to mute the sounds in the drum ruck so that they are different in each clip... because when I mute them, they are all or none, not individually. Are there any shortcuts for this, or should I remove midi from the notes? Regards

differnt way, in the drum rack you have a chain list where you can mute each track, you can also on session view open the drum rack and have each individual track. hard to explain better check the manual about drum rack

@@audioreakt the transition doesnt have to be like a dj. i found it super refreshing to think like a band in a live performance. let the people feel its not a dj. longer intros, longer breaks, switchups and even new parts for popular tracks of yours. one time i just had an impact and some crowd applause as transition before the next intro and people started cheering as if the band finished a song. ever noticed that all modern djs dont play real breaks and builds anymore? why not be different. plan more key moments like you already did, same as "loop" parts, where you jam out a proper 8 bar loop. another point that sounds super akward: i switched to arrangement mode. why? i have exactly 1:30h time, not more not less and i want to make any second count. in the first versions i always had to cancel out one or two tracks of the last 5 to be in time and if you prepared your set with love every track thats not playing hurts. yes yes improvising, vibe and stuff. yes, but in general you can calculate a track playing a certain time like 3min. Add 1,5min in and out and you can drag the samples in arrangement, make a playlist and you can focus on other more important things. i compare it to sync in djing (in traktor!, vinyl love is different:D) why should i spent time with something non creative like triggering scenes for proper written parts, when i can use my two hands for fx, filter and more. Some drops just work how they were written, so why complicate it?! last thing. when the playlist is ready i search for certain personal samples for the gig. voice memos from loved ones i made tracks for, local specific samples or own voice recordings to make it designated for the audience. just sparse and at the right moments, but wooorks fkn great. (inspired by fregagain. jajajaja :D)

Its not "like" cheating... it is actually cheating :) and I wouldn't not consider this a live set. There are multiple ways for a creative live set without losing your mind and focus because of you have too much to do but lets call your set what it is, a pretty nice and solid (pre recorded) hybrid set.

@subtlerobot 7 ай бұрын
Eh, I disagree... A live set exists on a spectrum from "press play and dance behind gear" to "composing new tracks on the fly". This set definitely falls somewhere between, closer to the former side of the spectrum. Clearly he had improvised elements over the whole thing, made composition decisions on the fly, and determined what elements were important to automate and what weren't. In fact. I found his decision to focus on improvising on the stuff that is more fun to play really illuminating. When you're performing live, you want to be having fun because people pick up on that energy.
