@@412yinzr But not everybody acts that way. Younger people can't control themselves too much, I know it from my younger self. And of course rich people don't have to. But now (41 years old) my backlog is so big I never have to buy a game again unfinished and overpriced. I have enough to play for years to come already. But on the other hand us older people we buy more hardware (PS5 Pros and 5090s and PSVR2s and stuff) because we can and want to play the best way possible. And then again, prices develope from supply and demand. As long as they cost 80 bucks they probably sell. So don't worry too much.

Thats the thing , companies know that , its why there been a steady increase , they take a sale slot deal with each platform and they price there game to be profitable at a sale price by overcharging for base value.... so even at a sale price now its generally same cost as a game 5 yrs ago , these companies are making contracts to get paid to be on sale list and then they mark there product up so the cost then gets pushed onto customers and there covered and get promoted all over selected marketplace.... so they over charging getting paid twice and getting game promoted every annual/holiday sale all at a cost to your wallet

I won’t support it if games go to $100. Even though I make very good money with my degrees. Gaming has always been a “do I have the extra money and time for it” thing for me. I’m supporting my first daughter in college and my second daughter is currently in cheerleading and dancing for her high school. She even got to be a guest cheerleader at the UNR basketball game for a potential scholarship and I paid for her cheerleading to get her to that level. I would rather spend the extras funds on her cheerleading team, and what they need for additional supplies rather than fund $100 on an investment that I may or may not enjoy for a few hours.

One thing I'm surprised to see is that no one mentioned the fact that in the U.S. we are going into a recession. I bought groceries yesterday and two cartons of eggs cost me $13! These companies don't seem to understand that gaming while fun is still a luxury Hobby. And if people are struggling to eat and pay bills luxuries are usually the first thing to go even if we don't want to cut them out. I've been wanting to play Space Marine 2 and Stellar Blade for months. But I can't afford them. So I've been playing Zenless Zone Zero instead because even though it's a gacha game it is free to play. If games suddenly jump $30 in price when I'm already struggling to afford them then I'll stick with my backlog and with free to play games.

They seem to forget that if the economic situation in the U.S. is bad, it’s even worse in many other parts of the world. Most currencies are significantly weaker than the U.S. dollar, and if companies start charging $100 per game, international sales will plummet. Some might argue, "But they’ll implement regional pricing." However, most AAA companies don’t offer regional pricing , and considering most of the world the minimum wage is as low as $200 USD, making games unaffordable for a large portion of the global audience.

Since becoming a member of steam and epic, I have too much games, but i like that I simply don't pay for anything I play. on average I only play about 4 games consistently so I'm good. It doesn't take alot to entertain me. I have over 70 games in my backlog that I haven't even touched yet and that backlog will just keep growing as the free games keeps coming. However, if there is a really great sale on a game I've been watching then I may consider buying it, but really there's NO NEED FOR ME to buy games. the best way to save $$$ is simply not to spend it and my favorite price is always "FREE"

100 is definately pushing it, ha ha. It means that for the games I purchase new, physically, I would be waiting months for them to go down to a reasonable price. Of course I could also still buy, beat and resell new games, as I often do. I recoup most of my costs this way, aslong as I sell them within a few weeks. The bigger problem is that it sets a really bad precedent. Since when games go fully digital they will then be 100 bucks, without any resale value. Once that happens I will be waiting ALOT longer to experience new games I'm interested in. The good thing is that shit usually comes in cycles. If there is enough push back companies will be forced to cut the prices back down to the point where games are selling the best. It will likely come down to doing the math as far as the profits of selling less copies at 100 bucks a pop vs. selling more copies at 70. The bigger profit numbers will likely be what wins out. Companies are very hesitant to back track however, so it has to be a real disaster and multiple companies would basically have to agree to start setting the prices back down again. It can become a mess, but shit always evens out in the end. I only buy a few new games a year, at launch. Mostly I get em used at a good price and keep them. With the new games I probably resell 50 percent are more, after completing them in a week or a few. The amount of games we have access to now is INSANE. With Steam sales, emulated games, indies and everything else , its not problem for me to wait for shit. The game better be fucking GTA 6 caliber for me to pay 100 bucks on day one.

Even though Rockstar spent $1B to make GTA6, they'll only need to sell 14.2M to break even. GTA5 sold over 200M copies plus gets in-game purchases, so it's safe to say that GTA6 could easily sell the game for $70. They could actually sell the game for way less if they wanted to and still make 10X on their $1B investment.

Wait two years and buy the “complete version” for a fraction of the price of the “base version”. GTA6 will be a subscription game. Players will be required to pay monthly to play it. When they do other games/publishers will follow suit.

These gaming companies have failed when it comes proper budgeting. They keep pushing these games more and more, which costs more and more money, and gamers have to foot the bill? No, that's not how this works. Especially when games keep coming out broken on day 1. $100 games is not going to happen. If it does, gamers are not going to purchase these games, and we will wait as long as possible for sales. GTA 6 will not be $100 bucks. It is impossible. These game journalists where you read these articles are full of shit, and they are loving seeing gamers lose their minds. Do not believe these journalists. Journalists are on the side of these massive corporations, who want to know if they can get away with it. And, now they know they can't increase prices. Gamers decide the prices. If we as gamers say no to $100 dollar games, it's not going to happen. Absolutely not. Don't worry guys. Don't let this scare you. Journalists are disgusting and are just testing the waters. Journalists are stirring the pot and are loving gamers freaking out over their coverage. I hate journalists so much.

If Rockstar is kinda of the exception gamers will into that. But any company that decides be a sheep and copy them after a few months or even a year won't be receiving that positive reception. When we get to $100 5 things will start happening. #1 less preorders or less impulsive buyers #2 more people waiting a few weeks or months for game to go on sale #3 people will still buy the game but won't spend like a wild person on microtransactions #4 more people will be looking at reviews, reddit and social media to see if the game is worthy #5 gamers demand will start rising and losing out on a $100 hurts more than losing $70.

I think you’re close. I don’t think $100 games will lead to more crap. I think it will lead to less quality. The number of “crap” games will remain the same, we’ll just see fewer quality AAA titles thrown into the mix. If this goes through, I can see this making the indie scene MORE powerful and lucrative, as that’s where creativity will blossom and that is where people will be looking to spend their money, because they are more likely to get a fun game for less money, rather than get ripped off for $100 that gives them a buggy mess with subversive political messages strewn about the game(s). Sweet Baby Inc., and other companies of the like, are funded by government subsidies (aka. our tax dollars). Any time government gets involved in any industry, prices go up, quality goes down, and politics are preached. Now, they have infiltrated video games and this is the result.

GTA 6 will probably provide more than $100 worth of value for me, so I would be less opposed to paying that price for day one access. That being said, the vast majority of games released today are nowhere near the standards I would hold for $100 prices. The only examples I can think of being willing to pay that price for in the last decade are Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, Tears of the Kingdom / Breath of the Wild and Baldur's Gate 3. Even with those examples, it would still be a stretch. I'd rather pay $100 I can see my favorite developers go out of business, but I just don't believe that those are the only two options on the table. They have to figure out a way to streamline and reduce cost if they want to survive the next couple of years.

In the current economy where as you mentioned a lot of people are struggling to make some ends meet, I don't think $100 games will go well. If you take a look at Steam and their sales, that is when people will most likely be buying their games, and will otherwise refuse to buy them unless they are discounted. There are only specific games which I usually buy without any discounts, such as most Nintendo games, as they generally have the quality to justify their price... except for the odd game, but most of their games are top quality and worth the price. I've been slowly moving to gaming on PC, before I lost my home last year and had to sell my PS3 and PS4, I haven't purchased a replacement Sony console yet, as the reality is, Steam just has more games, and better sales than any of the current consoles. Once the SteamOS devices begin rolling out, which are super easy to use like a traditional console, and can easily dock to a TV(much like the Switch), I'm sure a lot more prior console-only gamers will start moving to these devices. At least that's my theory on what $100 games might do to the industry. People want value for the hard earned money they are spending after all.

If it's $100 for a game, it's ludicrous, and that's not counting the tax. This is why I like digital games because you don't have to worry about the tax and just pay what it tells you. If I buy physical, then it has to be on sale or having a coupon for a discount. But this is just my opinion.

If Rockstar releases GTA 6 at $100 at launch for the standard edition and it does well, expect others to follow. This will test the waters to see how receptive their audience is to paying $100 for the base game.
