What we think of as "80s iconography" has become pretty warped at this point. Palm trees and synthesisers were both very much present back then but how they were used in, say, Miami Vice or the music video for Rio by Duran Duran is very different to the modern vaporwave aesthetic. The worst part about WW84 is that during the final speech, 'Beautiful Lie' plays. If it sounded familiar to anybody, it's (one of) Batman's theme in Batman v Superman. The Beautiful Lie told is something that Bruce talks about - 'the light', the lie we all tell ourselves to keep us from realising the horror of the world. It represents him at his murderous depths, the worst point of his life. It wasn't included in Justice League because that version of the character, represented by that song, has been uplifted and made honourable again. Using it in an inspirational speech is the absolute *worst* idea I could possibly imagine and makes the scene so hilarious to me.
@paulman343403 жыл бұрын
And we know exactly why it was picked. Because it's a familiar song as far as they were concerned! Just goes to show they really really didn't care and well I Hate Everything said it best it was made simply because sequel we got to keep people's minds completely on this film otherwise they might move on... It only succeeded in making them move on even more you know when you see something that looks potentially good and then they fuck up the landing because they were so scared you lose attention that the only succeeded in fulfilling that self-fulfilling prophecy! I mean that's not among the many bad ideas they copied let's not forget the fact that cheetah origin story is carbon copy of Electro from Amazing Spider-Man 2! Dear God of all the movies they could have chosen to copy. They had the copy that movie from the unnecessary long watch time, to the very poor plot points no, from the annoying fanservice for the sake of fanservice the only had those who saw Batman v Superman wondering where some of that stuff was that's used in this movie. To finally taking what was an already okay origin for the villain from the comic books and I'm starting to think the nerdy loser to Psychopathic supervillain origin and this movie and the other one is just them trying to do what they did for killmonger in Black Panther where they changed his Origins to pretty much being black panthers cousin and push the whole evil counterpart point to the point he's not even recognizable to his comic book counterpart. Not that in that case was a bad thing is just it's just hilarious watching them try to copy what was done effectively well as I was kind of okay with that changeup with killmonger because he was a lot more interesting and less a ripoff of Bane from the Batman comics. Do I could have done with a lot less preaching, at least I could take it as just there to show how much of a hypocrite he is. I think many of your got even worse because I don't even think the wish made any damn sense on turning her into a cheetah! Honestly the movie should have been all about her and Max Lord never should have been in the movie to begin with! Because my favorite boy just keep getting the whip cracked at him because idiot writers need an evil white egotistical male villain because it's politically correct! I mean when they did in the comics changing his character into a villain that was just laziness and no idea what to do with his character so let's just destroy any potential of his type of character by making his villainous action irredeemable and then refrigerate him for the sake of needless Wonder Woman development and oh yeah before we do that let's show how evil he is by having him kill off Blue Beetle so then we can replace him with a kid minority who's pretty much what would happen if you mix Iron Man with Venom!

The Superman: Red Son comic is actually way better than the movie, and it’s not just because of the art. The movie made a lot of very typical, Hollywood changes to the plot (despite being direct-to-dvd) by making it a lot more generic, like some of the morally grey aspects of the story were removed to have a more traditional good guy-bad guy dynamic between Lex and Superman. In fact the comic, even though it’s an Elseworlds tale, is often regarded as one of the best Superman stories. Honestly you would be better off just watching the motion comic, which is on youtube by the way.

WW84 bugged the hell out of me. Like actually kinda made me go "Oh my god what the hell?" cause think about it... they make it clear that Steve Trevor isn't really there and that he's inside someone elses body. Meaning not only was that person being possessed by a ghost, Wonder Woman had sex with their possessed body. And the relationship is portrayed as tragic and sad, but it was mostly just freakin' weird.

I can definitely say the Red Son story wasn’t done much Justice in the movie. The comic expands a lot on the details missed out and a lot of the changes in the movie are for the worse, like the ending which misses the great twist of the original.
@banditkeef38643 жыл бұрын
Most the animated movies feel way too fast pace. They always try and jam years worth of story and exposition into an hour long movie. They should either follow their source material closer and let it become a 2 or 3 part project or make even more changes so that you aren’t just rushing the source material’ plot. I never read the comics but as a movie the red son film just felt like “this is happening, now this is happening, now that is happening, ok now we are sitting for a split second, ok now this is happening”
@JustKrin3 жыл бұрын
The same problem had the Injustice movie. Considering the source material I don't understand why they don't make it an animated miniseries so that they can flesh out the story more. Then I remember that is produced by Warner and their are afraid of trying something risky without 100% chance of success.

New Mutants is a travesty. The original characters and comics are some of the best from the X-Men's heyday in the Chris Claremont era. And Boone went out of his way to get everything wrong he could have. Roberto's race was whitewashed. Illyana is so different she shouldn't even be called Illyana. She has more in common with Wanda Maximoff. Having her create a hell dimension with her mind is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If a child could create their own world to escape to as their happy place, it wouldn't be hell. It would be ponyland or Disneyland. She also never spouted such stupid racist dialogue, ever. She's a demon sorceress who was kidnapped to a hell dimension as a child where she learned sorcery and how to fight and fought her way to becoming ruler of that dimension, returning to earth as a teenager. The movie takes the magic out of Magik by making her a reality-warping mutant who never learned sorcery at all. They could have made her origin a mystery and revealed bits of it without going into too much detail, but that would require Josh Bone to not be a complete idiot. The fact that she can teleport and yet is somehow still 'stuck' in the facility is also never even addressed except in one throwaway line in a deleted scene. That's how little thought was put into the movie as a whole. Making the demon bear just another one of Dani's illusions was another gigantic blunder. It's supposed to be a real mystical threat. And having it be so could allow it to be a constant threat throughout the movie and increase the tension and horror aspect. Then, instead of them defeating it through teamwork and skill, Dani just tells it to go away when she wakes up. It's just stupid. For such a short movie, a lot of it is wasted time. There are entire scenes that serve no purpose, like the lie detector scene. Sam and Roberto might as well not even be in the movie they are so pointless. The dialogue is atrocious. There's pretty much nothing redeeming about it.

Amazing video! I absolutely agree with you on Wonder Woman 1984. I actually enjoyed the first but this was hot garbage. The only thing I kind of liked was the music by Hans Zimmer and also Pedro Pascal chewing the scenery was extremely entertaining. Otherwise it was horrendous. Yeah, New Mutants was really bad. And also super forgettable. Shame since the disasterous production history made me want to like it more. But no, I hated it. Better than Dark Phoenix but it’s a pretty terrible movie. I actually somewhat enjoyed Birds of Prey, cringey jokes aside, but I respect your opinion. It felt like it actually had a personality, the directing and performances were mostly good (in my opinion of course), and I liked most of the characters. But I totally understand why others hate it. I disagree with you on Justice League Dark: Apokolips War; I HATED that movie. I felt insulted as a DC fan that the people behind it seemed to think that the only way they could make people take it seriously was to kill everyone with no taste. What truly upsets me about the movie primarily is that instead of getting just a Cheetah and Wonder Woman focused film, they had to go the dreamstone route and force Maxwell Lorde into the story, which in turn bloated the overall story. I think it would have been cool to just be a film about Cheetah and Wonder Woman. Think about it for a moment: Literally the most well crafted part of that movie is the interactions and dycotomy of Wonder Woman and Cheetah. It's still pretty lazy, but if there is anything that is serviceable from the film, itd have to be that. When Cheetah first meets Diana, she is clumsy(Almost to a insufferable degree) but still is quite likeable and has a good amount of relatability. Who hasn't seen someone who was great and wanted to be like them? We all know we've had that insecurity at some point or another. Their breakfast chat is actually super fun, and we see a side of Diana that is extremely important, and it is the side of Diana in her alter ego, and we see how she can still be such a great and wonderful person. However, through Cheetah's question, we are able to see she has her selfishness in some sense that she would give up anything, even her powers in some ways to have Steve once again. And for the most part, that makes sense, that Diana loved Steve so much that she would be willing to give up her powers, especially since in the first movie she gave up the idea of intervening with humans after WWI and Steve's death. Throughout the movie, we get an incredibly slow growth of Cheetah and Diana as they slowly swap with one another. Diana is beginning to indulge in her more selfish desires with Steve, while Cheetah slowly grows more confident, and gets things from others, and uses her newfound powers to take advantage of others. I found it really powerful when Diana pointed out how kind and caring Cheetah was(or at least how sweet she was) before she got her powers, but suddenly the confidence has turned her into someone she would likely hate were she on the other end of the treatment. Its a great moment of character development.

That is a good point. It would also just keep the movie fixed as an emotional drama betwene two women which would be a more powerfully feminist since apperantly that’s what them were going for.

@@MissCaraMint Exactly! Rather than force feeding a male villain simply because they need to have a man to stand in the way of a woman for "feminist reasons" we can instead explore the culture of women as a whole, and learn how their friendships are built and expand on how that might affect a super hero like Diana, or a villain like Cheetah. It creates an interesting Dycotomy to be examined

@@cyberhawkgames Right, because Cheetah does have some legitimate points, she just goes totally overboard when she gets power. It's way more compelling when you let the villain have something genuinely compelling because well people don’t just randomly turn bad. No like the saying says, the path to hell is paved with good intentions. But where does she cross the line? Where do good intentions become destructive to people around her? You could lay it out so that Diana is in danger of making the same bad choices and Cheetah, but maybe because she has emotional support (Steve) she is able reexamine her own motivations and cope a lot better than Cheetah who is alone. It could then end with Diana realising that personal relationships are important and then choses to engage with the world in order to seek out those relationships even though she knows she could get hurt (cause she still gets to experience Steve die twice). Maybe even try to prevent people like Cheetah from going down that dark path in the first place (pushing for some reforms in harassment laws as her secret identity persona maybe, or mental health concealing, it doesn't all have to be the superhero that Changes the world right?) in memory of the woman she used to be.

@@MissCaraMint I think just lowering the stakes would justify the movie's existence. Part of my problem with 1984 is because of her Oath that she took after WW1, that she would no longer intervene with human affairs, so Patty Jenkins assumed this must mean until something else just as big happens, right? However we know from Batman V Superman that it is the first time she's come back as a hero(that we know of) and joins the public. So wonder woman returning for a super high-profile world changing event like Maxwell Lords thing makes absolutely NO sense for Diana's character. But Diana opening up finally to her friend, only for her friend to gain powers and be corrupted by greed and jealousy?? That low profile style makes sense for her to dawn her hero title again to protect others, but more so to stop her friend. It's much more compelling.
@MissCaraMint2 жыл бұрын
@@cyberhawkgames I agree with that. That's partially why I want there to be an emotional journey for Diana to realise that the price for loving and really living is loss, but that it's totally worth it to pay that price. If you cut yourself off from others for fear of getting hurt you stop living.

Something from birds of prey really stuck with me. It's overall a relatively light movie tonally. The violence isn't that bad or cruel....but at the beginning? A guy peels the face off of someone and you hear his agonizing screams. The victims child begs to not be killed, and this wish is granted until the kid ugly cries, and then the kidnapper decides to kill her for it. I was legitimately disturbed in this scene. And then we get a goofy movie. Like wtf (Note: saw this in 2020, I was not gonna go back and watch the movie to ensure accuracy, so forgive any incorrect details)

Love the video, but what you referred to as "rotoscoping" in the animated DC films was actually cel-shaded CG animation. Both often look jarring and out of place next to traditional animation (just look at modern anime), but rotoscoping is VERY uncommon for in modern animation, it's almost always just cel-shaded CG.

The hand animation he showed didn't look CG tho, it seemed pretty rotoscoped.
