as long as the headlight actuator motor is functional I've fixed many of those over the years with a trip to Lowe's for about $8.00 buying replacement polyurethane bushings

I feel you pain Bob. I’ve been battling my damn motors for years. For some reason my passenger side acts up all of the time. The limit switches are a real pain and that’s what you’re having issues with now. Terrible system.

I put in some Twin Turbos and inner coolers there. There might be 4 cylinders less than a V12, but why not the same 800 HP!?!? 😁👍... Oh, but I know you'll never do that, Bob... 😜 But I would! 🤪

My 69 Ford Country Squire, fake wood and all hee hee, i got for $50.00 in 80 had a vacuum motor and bar system like you said. Vacuum lines went to the switch, replaced that and they worked perfectly. Even though it's on a Fiero chassis, these countach kit cars are cool cars. Head turners for sure. I have a red one similar to this (mine has the 4cyl). Mine is on an 84 Fiero chassis, and needs some work. Whoever put it together did not do a good job. I have to say, the trucks on the front for adding a little extra safety for the ground effect is a good idea. The ground effect for mine is cracked in half and in need of repair. I definitely have a project on my hands. The plan is to drop in a 3.8 supercharged engine or a LS4 out of an Impala or monte carlo. I've looked into modifying the GM F40 manual trans to fit the LS4. The goal being a manual trans for fun. I'm a long way from that.

I would.. try a direct power lead from a 12v source to each lamp you have, take notes, find the capacitor in flux. Had to do it.

it looks like that whomever put it together. didnt know what they where doing like it was their 1st time doing this. but tried to put it toghether correctly and well. just didnt know alot about process to do it 100% but did good for not knowing or being experienced at it

Whenever I have an electrical problem I replace the ground wires to the effected area. Also may need a stronger battery, higher CCA

I know that my 83 TA healight switch inside the car will only work both popup motors if it's pressed lightly. Both lights will be illuminated. I have original motors. You might consider the switch inside the car might be worn.

I would rewire it to handle the 1985 on headlight motors, they are way more dependable, like the ones you showed in your Kitt Replica.

Bob ....I have had many Firebirds,T/As included. When the 4th gen was introduced the motors were no better. My '97 Firebird now has troubled motors and yes, they are still a pain in the ass to replace. I'm just going to wait till spring now to get mine working correctly. Keep up the great videos, I love them all.

Every cool thing they have ever done with headlights has always been a pain in the ass.. pop ups, hideaways.. etc... all a pain in the ass. That is why the factory always has some half assed way to put them up manually. They knew it was just a matter of time until they failed. Buick Riviera's had that horrible clamshell thing... just an electrically operated mechanical @$$hole of linkages. I feel your pain. Might want to redo that front wiring harness to your standards. Looks like it's seen some heat damage as you pointed out.

Lol the ls4 was what i suggested several vids ago. I know you dont plan to drive it fast, but the ls4 would put a lot of pep in its step. Plus the ls4 and 4t65ehd transmission are peetty much bullet proof.

Dodge used one motor and a bar. I had a Trans Am GTS and the headlights were a nightmare to fix. Three relays and two motors. Never could get them to adjust when they were down flush with the front end.

I don't really know anything about the dimensions of the Fiero, but maybe you could fit a Boxster engine back there. It's low, flat, and mid-engine, and the performance would be a lot better.

I own an 88 Firebird and never had any problems with the pop-up headlights at all, and I drove their shit out of their car. think I bought it with 32000 original and I'm pretty sure it had 100thou When I sold it, but never any issues with the headlights or actually any issues with anything on the car it just never gave me any problems whatsoever I drove it till the brake lines rotted off of it.😎 I love that car and I miss that car I wish I still had it I would have drove that the rest of my life if it would have stayed together but you can't stop rust

i know onthe old Corvettes with the Vacumn popup headlights that always failed people used Porsche 914 motors they adapted into them My Dad. was a Corvette guy for many years and those always “Winked” At you he had one car that already had the conversion. when he got it I’m not sure what the C4 cars used but that would had been another GM with PopUp headlights

Make sure you have good ground to those motors! Bad ground might do that kind of problems.

Really stupid question. Does that car have a body control module? (I did some quick googling and came across some forms and apparently that's a popular mod.) Also maybe . . if the headlight motors has contacts and blah blah blah like you said. . . Could the issue be with the placement of the motor in relation to the kit-car headlight flaps? (Like maybe disconnect the linkage and see if they still have the issue.)

I's a great looking kit. Even Hoovie's real Countach has the skateboard wheels under the front. At 22:40 after the lights com up I notice a few seconds later they get brighter. I don't know enough about electronics, but shouldn't they stay one brightness. Is that normal for headlights or are they turning on the normal brightness and then automatically shifting to the brighter setting?

It's a very cool car you got.. but where I got a family ID want to build a car with a vw squareback on a hot rod frame stretch so I can build 2 ls engines in the front but make as a gasser.. that's my dream it be cool to build where vw engines are in back be a cool place for gas tank and used where you check engine oil can be a good place to fill up the gas ⛽️.. but keep the vw interior way it is .. but yeah I wish I could build one like that.. and roof with factory vw sun roof .. but who cares it's a kit car.. that's a cool kit car.. love it.. hope you get that all fixed and your ideas come true to it. If I were you. I would rewire the entire headlight system. Then you will know you have good wiring and grounds before I would say the motors are bad. Or look at a 1970 Dodge Charger headlight system. They use one motor that operates both headlights same thing with a 1970 Ford LTD with the hidden headlights. Other than that. It is a beautiful replica Lamborghini Countach.
