I love this concept. I might have to put something like this together. To be fair, I am a Weezer fan, so half the albums are disappointments, a handful are classics, and the remaining sliver are the "just average". I still haven't been fully disappointed by The Strokes - if anything, I find First Impressions of Earth uneven and bloated.

i like First Impressions. That was first time I saw them live too. Having said that I totally understand where you’re coming from thinking it’s bloated etc. I can see that fer sure.

Yes, I like Billy Idol’s Shock To The System, but I never wanted to check out Cyperpunk. I’ve never been a fan of The Strokes because of their guitar sound and their vocals.
@STEVEHEROLD4 ай бұрын
interesting. i like those distorted vocals the strokes had on their initial albums. they veered away from them a bit but i still think that dude’s got a good voice. smart move not checking out cyberpunk.
@excelsiormoviereviews4 ай бұрын
@@STEVEHEROLD yes, Billy Idol had a falling out with Steve Stevens in the late eighties that I wasn’t a huge fan of either, but Cyberpunk wasn’t going to work in the early nineties, it might have worked in the late nineties though. Maybe Billy was ahead of his time. 😂

Love the topic of course. Great choices (you don't see those everyday) - Billy Idol, Simple Minds, Van Halen. I'm so with you on Endless Wire!!! And the drumming on Endless Wire is so lame for The Who. Nice to see you didn't include Primitive Cool and Dirty Work.

trivia time: i owned the 45 for harlem shuffle back in 1986. but i think i bought it more for the artwork than the song. probably never listened to the b-side. not that it would’ve made any difference in their career cause the book’s been written so to say but i wonder if the 2019 WHO album had come out instead of Endless Wire how people would’ve reacted to it. I can’t remember what your take on that one was. I like it. I mean it’s not amazing but it’s a good collection of tunes by a band whose glory days are well behind them.

@@STEVEHEROLD I thought the WHO album was good. Much better than Endless Wire. But at the end of the day they’re my two least listened to Who albums. I’ll go to Face Dancesand It’s Hard over them both honestly. Entwistle is really missed to me.

Hi Steve. This is a great way to purge a collection. I’m starting to eliminate all records in this category you touched on in this video. I want to get to a place where my collection is comprised of only the best of the best. I believe they call it all killer no filler. Great video!

it’s the best song on there. but that’s not saying much. the songs needed someone better suited at taking Ed’s creativity and shaping them into actual catchy rock songs. Mike Post & Gary Cherone were not up to the challenge.

The only one of those that I have is the Who. I always hate it when an album doesn't meet expectations. It happens a lot. Show your love and support for the Alan Rosenberg show. He's been flagged for showing sexy album covers!!!! It's an outrage. Since when is sexy wrong??? I hear he may do his next video nude😂.

Hi Steve! I've never even heard of that Billy Idol album, and guess from your review I should count myself lucky for not knowing it. I had pretty much checked out on Simple Minds after the album Street Fighting Years, so don't know that one you showed. That Van Halen album is absolutely awful. That Who album is another one I've never seen before! I like your review "There's just nothing on here" 😂 Change of producer led to that X album as you said. Ray Manzarek was the man.

Hi Steve. I was playing along even before your first choice ... I really liked the Strokes' 'Angles' too. I remember playing it loads when it came out. It's been very frustrating being a fan of the band. They never built up any momentum, taking long breaks between releases and sometimes releasing substandard material. Have you got any of Albert Hammond Jr.'s solo material? I saw him live in a small club and was very impressed. I was a little star-struck! ... My first X album was 'Ain't Love Grand' and I wondered what all the fuss was about. As you say, the problem was the producer ... I thought you might have shown the Clash's 'Cut The Crap'. I'd also include Public Image Ltd's 'The Flowers Of Romance'.
@STEVEHEROLD4 ай бұрын
hey carl great to hear from ya. the only albert hammond jr album i have is yours to keep which i like a lot. not sure why ive never picked up any of his others. agree with all ya said about the strokes. they really have had an unusual career. i think they made some decisions because of all that hype around them in beginning that they were gonna “save rock n roll.” i really don’t think that sat well with the band. ya know i have never owned or listened to Cut the Crap. It is so infamously regarded as terrible i just took everyone’s word for it. oh also thats awesome ya got to see albert hammond hr in the small club. nothing like those shows. hope summer’s treatin’ ya well dude!

Hi Steve - Its always a disappointment when a favorite puts out something not just mediocre but awful ! In 2008 both The Cure & Oasis put out unforgivably bad records. In the 90's many acts tried ( & failed ) to stay relevant like Billy Idol , INXS , Human League , ABC & both Van Halen & Genesis resorting to new vocalists ! The time comes for many where they should live by touring & merchandise & not lose fans by putting out subpar material.
@STEVEHEROLD4 ай бұрын
yeh i knew that Genesis attempt with a new singer would fail. it was very surprising too. i dont know/remember what led to that. it’s weird hearing bands trying to stay relevant. probably 99% of the time it reeks of desperation and never pans out.
