The point about new features and upgrades in your garage while you sleep is hard to overstate. It's such a foreign concept for anyone who hasn't experienced it, but it really is like having a constantly new car. I replaced a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum with the Model Y, and I explained to my son that my biggest complaint about the Ford was that it had the older infotainment system which was ridiculously archaic and clunky, and I mentioned that had I just waited another year I would have gotten the more modern system. My son said "But if it had been a Tesla it would have upgraded itself" and he was spot on. It removes the FOMO or feeling like your new car is outdated when the next model year ships. Genius.

Driving a Tesla is so peaceful, your body doesn't have to work to accelerate or be all stressed while breaking. Literally the car does it all so smoothly and handels all the hard work with such ease. If you have never driven an EV you just don't know ho much better they are.

The man speaks the truth… We have a 2022 Model X LR AND a 2023 Model Y LR. Best cars we have ever owned and we’ve owned some very nice cars. The top of the line we’ve bought new?…well I can honestly say that Tesla beats BMW, Mercedes and Lexus new off the lot hands down, we’ve had multiples of each. We just wish we had bought made the switch sooner.

For the phone unlocking part, the app is using a Bluetooth low energy signal from the phone to the car to unlock it. Occasionally the phone will turn off the BLE connection to save power depending on your habits (I.e you usually don’t use your car at 3am so it’ll turn off that connection at 3am, but the issue is that this isn’t perfect). Waking up/unlocking the phone reestablishes all these connections and thus, unlocks your car. When this happens to me I literally just awake the phone in my pocket and it usually will unlock the car without having to unlock the phone or go all the way to the app. Just an FYI on what the culprit is.

Agree. When my proximity does not unlock the car, simply pushing the button in my iPhone to wake it typically unlocks the car. Sometimes I’ll use my Watch app instead. Sort of depends on what’s going on. But yeah it’s not perfect. Better than having to carry around a key fob, though!

The other thing that goes underappreciated: no getting excited about a car you see on their website and then calling or showing up at the "dealer" just to find out they don't actually have that car or there's a "market adjustment" over MSRP. Also, no haggling with your trade in either. What you see is what you get.

Just went camping and camp mode was awesome! Tried one night inside and will admit that at age 55 it was not super comfortable. The stars were great but I only cleared half and would have benefited from an empty area. The great part for me was in camp mode will allow you to charge something like a battery that I need for my CPAP. Approximate your environment to what is outside and the draw to charge my portable battery was only 20km after a solid eight hours. This was the same for my fit night (25km draw). Very useful

So thanks for the video, and the ride along, I think you did a terrific job of explaining why you bought your Tesla, why you’re wanting to sell it, and why you won’t sell it to buy something else, but that you will trade it for another Tesla, scored a big one with me. So I am wondering where did you get those fancy wheels, because I don’t think they’re stock wheels, am I right about that? You also said, that you had your suspension changed out, and you still don’t like the ride quality? So what’s up with that? So what specifically don’t you like about the ride quality?

Hi, loved the update. You’ve been our go to since we put our order in for our Y (got the referral miles through you, just before they pulled the plug). For last 6 months or so it “overcharges by 3-5 Kwh” from the setting. We travel from Florida to New England with “no” charging issues (love the V3’s) Only issue we have is with phantom braking (can’t figure out what the trigger is that causes it).
@natehoy6924
@natehoy6924 Жыл бұрын
"overcharging" happens to me sometimes as well. I set it for 80% and wake up and it's at 82% or whatever. There are a few factors involved here. One or all may apply to your case. First, measuring battery capacity isn't exact. Temperature and a number of other factors can affect the reading, so if it warms up after you charge that can affect the displayed percentage by 1-2%. If you've charged it optimally and kept the battery in that 50-80% sweet spot for a long time, the BMS hasn't had a chance to "re-learn" the real capacity of the battery (see the next paragraph). Second, battery measurements don't stay in calibration perfectly. Charging it up to 100% and then driving it down to below 20% on your next road trip can help calibrate that if the imperfection in measurement bothers you (note: it doesn't bother the car at all). Third, the BMS may occasionally be "balancing" the pack when it's done charging. This involves checking the voltages across the pack and charging/discharging individual cells so they are in better balance. This process involves putting energy into cells, so it can cause you to overshoot your target charge level. I find that the battery percentage is spot on with my target charge level for about a month to 6 weeks after a long road trip where I've started out at 100% and discharged it to below 20% once or twice along the way, then it starts to drift a bit (but the drift never really exceeds more than a couple of percent so whatever, I'm not going to stress out the battery only to recalibrate a user display - it'll get sorted on the next road trip).

Question about the harsh ride. A friend has chronic joint pain due to rheumatoid arthritis, but still has to make long drives for medical appointments. These are typically 90+ minute commutes slogging through traffic so I was recommending that perhaps Tesla auto-pilot would make her driving less painful and less fatiguing. Her joints do feel the all of the bumps while driving. Now I am hesitant due to the sporty, sometimes rough ride that people often comment on. Should I consider another vehicle make with basic lane keeping and cruise control as a recommendation? Any ideas or suggestions?

I think the more upscale interior is the biggest weakness of a Tesla. I own a 2023 Model 3 RWD and think it is great, but I agree with those who say other EVs feel more upscale as far as interior. With that said, Tesla software is much better overall. I have the 18 inch rims with comfort suspension and think it feels great. Not soft like a sponge, but not harsh at all. All the Tesla security and safety features really add up. My Model 3 has the 15.5 volt lithium battery which solves the 12 volt battery drained issue many EV owners have dealt with. That is what I love about Tesla, improvements without waiting for new model year or refreshes. There are Model Ys with hardware 4 already on the road. They look like all the Model Ys basically, but have gotten a major upgrade. Tesla breaks so many legacy builders traditions. Just not having to buy through a dealership is a major plus. I basically picked up my new Tesla in five minutes. When I picked upy 2012 Camry at the local dealership, it took 90 minutes. Partly because they wanted to sell me crap like service plans and interior protection plans. If Tesla keeps upgrading their interiors, it is going to make it that much harder for the competition. Build quality is way better than 2018. All my panel gaps were great. I love that competition has gotten better, but Tesla is not sitting still, so the bar keeps getting raised and this benefits consumers.

I also have a 2023 M3 RWD, and I’m a big fan of the interior. I’ll admit I haven’t sat in any other EVs, but I’ve watched numerous videos and I like the simplicity. When I bought the car, I thought I’d dislike using the screen, but I find I rarely need it. I like not having all the buttons. Side note: I had a read panel that was a bit misaligned. The gap on one side was probably 3/16” larger than on the other side. It was quickly amended at the Tesla store, but nevertheless, it was there.

The Phantom Braking (which, incidentally, could be the name of one of the movies in the Star Wars saga) is happening to me too, but I really don't drive that much on the highway, and when I do, I minimize the Autopilot use. Especially when there is speed and a lot of cars involved, I'm more comfortable running manually, and only use Autopilot for fun when there is no real danger of something sudden happening.

So, just as a point of information, it is quite rare to have the car suddenly brake on highways, as this mostly happens when you’re driving in towns, and cities, at least that’s been my experience. So I have a 2018, dual motor, all wheel drive, long range battery pack, rated at the time of 316 miles, and I have experienced very little degradation, over 4 years of ownership, and I have (FSD beta), and FSD beta, has come along ways, and I don’t wanna mislead anyone, as it’s still has hiccups, but it is damn good, and it’s only going to get better, and better. So I wouldn’t worry too much about the phantom braking, but it is something you need to pay attention to, because you’re still responsible while behind the wheel, no matter where you’re driving, because there are still bugs that needs to get worked out, but I am fully confident that Tesla will be the first to achieve a fully capable self driving, autonomous vehicle before any of those other guys do. My only hope is that more people get to experience it, and that I am around to see it, as it’s going to be a wonderful day to see the CyberTruck, the semi truck. and all the other Tesla cars driving around with no one at the wheel, and future Tesla vehicles will come without a steering wheel or pedals. You’ll just take out your phone, summon your car to pick you up or send your car to pick up, a family member, a friend, or a complete stranger, as you’d be operating your vehicle through an app on your phone, in a ride sharing situation, which is something Tesla has been talking about for a while now, and it may take them longer than one may expect or want, but eventually we’re gonna get there, and I am confident of that. Cheers 🥂

The seems like such a ridiculous statement given the autopilot is one of the benefits of the car. I dunno, this seems a lot more dangerous than owners are making it out to be. Maybe cognitive dissonance?
@theodorehaskins3756
@theodorehaskins3756 Жыл бұрын
@@robdc4829 Touché! But only if you’re confused and from your statement, I think that’s the case here. So don’t confuse auto pilot, which is a trade name for an (ADAS) advanced driver, assistance system, something most auto manufacturers have some variance of these different features that make up the system. What we’re talking about here is not auto pilot, which by the way, is standard on all Tesla vehicles, but what we’re talking about here is something beyond assistance. So FSD (full self driving), is a much more sophisticated system which incorporates auto pilot and all the other features associated with it, but in addition to that, (FSD beta) actually drives the car just like you and I do. So I understand those who do not own a Tesla, and have not actually delve into the nuances of Tesla’s cars being confused about this system, but not to those of us who are currently driving with (FSD beta), and so just because someone happens to be driving a Tesla, does not mean that they have (FSD beta) in their cars, as it’s still quite an expensive feature. So what I recommend you doing is to actually read the literature, and start to get an understanding of what this particular software is capable of doing, and where Tesla is driving this technology to, and why they’re doing it, because it’s not just about a convenience or some type of geewhiz hey look at what I got technology, no it’s about much more than that, it’s about saving lives, by driving down those horrible statistics we hear about every year, as people are lost to what are clearly preventable traffic mishaps. Cheers 🥂

Have you noticed phantom braking getting any better with software updates? I drive about 100% around town so I rarely use autopilot but last time I took a road trip it was horrible. Multiple events with no other vehicles or anything else around. I was like WTF, if they can't get this right I don't have a lot of hope for FSD anytime soon.

Haven’t experienced phantom braking in months with FSD beta (currently using v11.4.4) however I still encounter unnecessary speed limit changes, most notably on a 70mph downhill grade that has posted 45mph limit signs for trucks, the car will slow a few mph while I scroll the speed back to 70mph. It was a little disconcerting the first couple of times until I figured out what was happening. Couldn’t voice report it because manually changing the speed limit didn’t disengage FSD, so now when it happens I disengage FSD and report it when asked why I disengaged. I also experienced speed limit changes in some sections of road where the posted limit differs from mapped (displayed by the car). This is not phantom braking but actually unexpected slowing, but if you’re aware of these conditions they are easily corrected, however it is still unacceptable for FSD and is an issue that needs to be addressed before it is released out of beta. Otherwise, there has been noticeable improvement with every update. I use FSD beta over 90% of the time and love it.

Thanks for all your information and review on the Tesla Model Y. I am looking to get an EV in 2024 and the Model Y long Range is one that is on my list. I don't know when a Model 2 Tesla may come out for sale. One Question I have is to anybody - Does the basic Auto Pilot in the Tesla also work on normal 2 lane highways and not just the Freeways??? I assume it is similar to using a Cruise Control in an ICE vehicle. Take care.
@Moskoe83
@Moskoe83 Жыл бұрын
You can use auto pilot anywhere. It's basically just adaptive cruise control. It accelerates / decelerates and keeps you in your lane. That's it. I only use it on the freeway myself, I wouldn't put my trust into the system on a 2 lane highway or city streets.
