It's weird when people say you can't solo on a baritone. There are a ton of guitarists, myself included, who would beg to differ. In fact, on a record I recently produced, we used a 28" Ernie Ball baritone strung in drop C# with light strings, because the guitarist enjoyed the feel of the longer scale length when soloing.

@@djl876 The point was that 6-string baritones miss the upper register for soloing. Mike's tuning is basically drop C# with added low F# string. So he has the range.

Barytones are actually pretty versatile in 'standard ' tunings - you can install lighter strings and chug harder. The tension is better because of the scale length, and there will be less peeeeeeuuuuu sound. Also for the price this Harley Benton is insane - ebony fretboard, stainless steel frets, neck-thru design. I have the same guitar (the black one) for 4 years now - it's a mean machine.

IMO 2 decent pros: Layout & comfort, and lowest string tone & intonation. With a bari you can get same tension with thinner strings, too. People underestimate the tonal difference, even 'high' like B, A#, A. You don't get the range and verticality of a 7, but imo you can choose string amount and tuning separately. 7 if you love more notes, range, verticality, and few limits. 6 if you love the simplicity/ergonomics esp. in the key of the lowest note. Then choose tuning- if you want low, go for 27 or 29 (6 or 7). Solar make a 6 at 27 and 29, and even a 7 at 29 too.

I love baritone and also 7 string guitars! A 7 string baritone is something that is on my list. It's a bit harder to play solos on a baritone, but if you get used to it, it's not a problem at all. I just love the sounds. It's also inspiring to try something different.

I got the Amarok 7 model 2 months ago. I was very skeptical due to a small number of 7 string version reviews. 2 months after having it, I honestly love it. The neck is still a bit thick and wide for my taste but so comfy. The EMG retroactives sound great, the guitar holds tune so good. You get a lot of guitar for a good price.

As someone who own an Ibanez RGIB21 baritone guitar and absolutely loves it, I am the first to say that they aren't solo guitars, they're not for lead players. The baritone thrives as a rhythm guitar. I find that due to scale length and string tension, baritones sound much lower than a 7-string in the same tuning. My recommendation for a cool sound? Have your lead guitarist playing a 7-string, and your rhythm playing a baritone. you'll get a lot of depth to your sound, and the leads will sound very bright overtop of the darker sounding baritone.

I've had my eye on an HB Amarok for a while, but there are a few other guitars on the list first. If they do another EX-style Amarok though then it will go to the top of the list. Great vid, dude!

I have regular Amarok it's a great guitar, only wish the neck was thinner, has heft to it. As far as soloing, I guess depends on user how much you want to bend really. I feel even for regular E tuning 26" could be a solid standard. I've noticed even for low E longer scale sounds better, or multiscale to become more common in general. Be it 25.5"-26" or 26"-27". Longer scale really helps with clarity. I get no need if you want to bend all the time and do insane bends, 24.75" scale maybe. 14-80 in drop A on it is quite something though :D

I still own one of the original Fanfret Baritones that HB put out some years prior. The design very well matches the Amaroks of today, pickups are a big upgrade tho. Also if you need to replace a nut on Fanfret guitars...you gotta 3D-print it.

With 7 strings you cannot play 6 string low chord and 6 string arpeggios... Now I have 3 guitars, a cheap 25.5" tuned E to E, a cheap 27" B to B and a cheap 30" F# to F# and this way is better than my old 8 string Japan Custom Shop very expensive guitar...

Serious question, can't you use a hybrid string Guage to make it easier to solo or is the scale length the issue and the lighter Guage highs will be too floppy?
@peteplaysmusic4 ай бұрын
Yes, but the extended scale length is the issue more than the string gauge and increases the string tension. Baritone 7 strings are usually 26.5 inches which helps but Baritone 6's tend to be 27 inches or longer, so it can be pretty difficult to get vibroto etc :)

7 string version is cool but be aware if you plan to tune low on it, it has a 25.5 inch scale so will be tricky to intonate. Absolutely fine if you stick to B or A though (and you can solo too) :)
