The game lately has been assigning me "close" victories for the most one-sided victories. I'll lose 12 entities and they'll lose 2000 and it will say "close" They must have changed how much they weight ammunition in the balance of power or something.

I'm not 100% sure about that but from my own experience I have a feeling that a distinction between close/decisive victory is based on the initial balance of power before the battle. If the balance is close, then you get a close victory, even if you took minimal casualties. If the balance is way in your favour, you get a decisive victory even of you take a lot of casualties. Of course it doesn't apply to heroic/phyrric victories, which are more extreme cases. I'm not even entirely sure if it works the way I described but that's just my observation.

@@SereglothIV nah, i'm sure that i've managed to get "decisive" victories even when the BoP going in looked evenly balanced. i think the OP is correct, and that the verdict is based somewhat on your remaining _CP_ (combat potential) rather than simply losses (so if you have a missile-heavy army and use most of your ammunition, you'll likely see "close victory", even if you suffered no/few actual casualties). kind of frustrating, actually. it's good that the BoP takes full CP into account-as units that are great at shooting but poor in melee _should_ be considered less likely to influence the battle the more of their ammo they have lost, since they can only get more ammunition through certain abilities (that most factions don't have access to)-but since ammunition replenishes fully after each battle, it seems nonsensical to punish a general for winning a battle with 0 casualties _just because_ they used a lot of ammo.

"decisive victory". so i don't think it has anything to do with the BoP at the start of the battle (unless ofc a lot of your combat potential comes from ammunition, and you use it up)

I *Knoooow* I'm almost a year late... sorry... It takes into account how well you did compared to the enemy's casualties, damage taken, and efficiency, like routing units rather than fighting the whole unit (although that last part has little effect). Most importantly though, the game has a prediction on what you *should* be able to do which to be honest sounds like the balance of power. But it's not the balance of power on the global map. It's the balance of power calculation on the battlefield. If you do *amazing* compared to what the game predicted, you'll get a nice result. If you do pretty much as the game predicted, the game will only look at the % of your health, models, and units lost or damaged vs the enemies if you do worse than the prediction, you start taking a heavy penalty to the end battle prediction. Difficulty also affects the bonus and penalty from comparing your result to the power prediction. How much? I don't know I've never seen numbers, Hopefully that helps, despite the chronically late reply. (The above also changes game to game a little so the ease of heroic victories might feel different game to game for you ;) )
