i never realised til just now that my attention span is grasped so much easier with this type of format, the moving around and stuff, rather than the sitting in one place through the whole video format, huh, who knew. also you're doing such a great job with distigmatising disability, as someone who has a health condition which has greatly impacted my life, i appreciate it c:

Please hear me all the way out… I have a major issue with eyeballs… It stems back to this tv show I watched as a kid where they did cataract surgery and I almost puked. Ever since then, I can’t even watch people put contacts in or take them out, it’s so bad, I start gagging. At first, I was like that watching you, but as the video went on, it got better. You’re so comfortable with taking your eye in and out, talking about it, you have an amazing outlook on your situation… Honestly, I think you’ve helped me get over my fear and ick of eyeballs that I’ve been suffering with for about 43 years. Thank you for that 😊 I think I’m going to go watch you try on the many different eyeballs to see if I can do it 🤞🏻 You really have such a great personality, I think that’s what’s helping. We’re artistic people are just that way, aren’t we? 😉

This is so fascinating to me as I have always had so many questions about fake eyes and how they effect day to day life. The first time I saw a person with a fake eye was Peter Falk who played Columbo in the show Columbo as a young kid. Hearing someone speak so casually about it and being very candid about it instead of just reading sort of medical journals to understand how it all works and effects people and learn about it, so thank you for sharing your story and answering tons of questions I’ve always wondered! Thank you so much!

My dad is blind in one eye, and he explained it to me what he sees like this: *Close one of your eyes* Your vision doesn’t go half black. You just.. can’t see out of the closed eye. (Of course, it’s different for different kinds of blindness)

Interesting thought. When I close both eyes I see black, or maybe red if there is bright light. But some shade. But with one eye closed it's like my brain just switches it off. I even tried doing it with sunlight shining so with both I see red - but same thing, I don't see any red with just one eye closed. I think this shows how much your brain is involved in sight - it's constantly processing whatever is coming in and trying to turn it into useful information and filter out useless information. I sort of knew this anyway as I have had mild cataracts all my life, one eye is worse than the other and my vision is affected but with both eyes open it's not an issue as my brain combines both. Very interesting.

@@tompw3141 lol i think maybe its cause your looking for the half black would be different if you wernt so used to looking out both eyes but then again it would be really interesting to know what someone sees thats completly blind or has both eyes gone obviously the wouldnt see anything but what there perception of vision or wha they think they see would be

Thank you so much for making these kinds of videos! I write as a hobby, so knowing all sorts of things about all sorts of people is pretty important to me! Not seeing anything, not even black, from the socket is super fascinating! Confusing for a few seconds, sure, but I think I grasped the idea. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but here's my general comprehension of the concept. When I close my eyes, they don't just stop working, since the eyelid isn't an off-switch, it's a cover the eye to block out light. So if an eye socket is empty, and has no systems to sense light in the first place, darkness can't possibly exist to it!
@RoundSeal
@RoundSeal 10 ай бұрын
This rules, thanks for talking about this! As I have both of my Meat Eyes, I never even considered that not keeping the prosthetic in while sleeping could cause the socket to get debris in it. It's really so obvious when you point it out. Custom prosthetics that are art pieces as well as functional are wildly cool, and I'm so happy to see that false eyes get that same artistic treatment!

So - not having an eye means you see absolutely nothing? Not even darkness ? This changes everything. I just can't imagine it. This is making my mind go crazy. I can actually see why people might be curious about you sleeping with the eye in or out. It's not the same but due to a gum disease I have which went untreated for a long while, I lost a 1/3rd of my teeth. The partials I have to make up for the missing teeth are amazingly well molded to my mouth and use my remaining teeth as excellent latch points but people like me who have partial dentures are still advised not to sleep with them in. I think this is due to potential choking hazard regardless of how well latched they are and in case you sleep in a weird way which may cause the denture to push in? But still, I can see how one may wonder if another facial apparatus like an artificial eye needs to stay in during sleep or if there's a hypothetical health concern they may be wondering about.

You are such an inspiration. I recently had a really bad eye infection that caused a severe scar over my left cornea. I’m going to be having a cornea transplant in a couple of weeks and I’m terrified! But being that I have had both eyes for 40 years I’m struggling with the blindness in the left eye and my right eye has a partial scar, so I’m having trouble seeing out of the right eye as well. I get lost if I try driving somewhere I have never been because I just can’t see street signs in the right eye. But I’m also super curious about the potential of me loosing the eye completely. I love that you chose a green eye it’s super cute 🥰 you give me lots of hope!

I was taught to not ask questions about someone’s disability, condition, or scars unless they bring it up or you’re really close, even then don’t be rude about it. Maybe online people don’t have such boundaries, but it’s nice you’re talking bout it openly here. My only eye question is, how often does cat hair get stuck in your eye? Your real and false one? When I had a cat, every maybe month I’d find a long cat hair sticking out of the corner of one of my eyes and I’d have to pull it out and it felt weird. Ever experience that?

Hiya. I commented on your short that was on my KZbin recommendations and hopped on over here. As I said on that I lost my eye a few years ago from Uvietis, it blew up the optic nerve so the eye no longer communicates with the brain so like you I see nothing. I can still technically lose the other but I take medications for that. My only question that wasn't answered is can you drive? Are you allowed? Here in the US as long as my periphery us 130 degrees I can. The only change I have made is I don't do large crowds. Anyway, I also like the music you make so I'll be subscribing to keep up on all of that.

I still have my eyes but my left eye has a serious peripheral defect and to compensate my eye has just looked at my nose my whole life and had quickly become very bad at seeing anything, it may as well not be there, to the point that I’ve had glasses since I was a year old Anyway the reason I mention this is because I’ve noticed that my depth perception in my dominant eye (the right) is completely fine and I barely miss my left eye while it’s closed.

I would like to know about the company that made your eyes. I had an eye made and I can't stand wearing it because it feels like someone is pushing my graft in while I 'am wearing it. Plus the company that made my original eye was wicked expensive (Over 1,000 USD). I had to make like four appointments while an artist painted my eye in office. I thought it was cool how they made the veins using thread that they frayed with a scalpel.

Hello, I've been fully blind in one eye since I was 5 and learned to drive like "normal" as in no special helps, same classes as everyone. I've been driving for over 15 years now and personally find it enjoyable as it gives me the freedom to be independent! I don't know what it's like to have two eyes and depth perception so I cannot compare to binocular drivers but for me, I just turn my head more to compensate for my blind side, and I use the size of things to guesstimate size. You can also use timing, such as looking at a sign and going 1,2,3 to say you're "3 seconds distance" or more between cars when driving to maintain the gap. When first getting used to a new/different car, just going slow really helps in getting used to the size of the vehicle and where it is taking up space. Really good if you don't have a car with a backup camera, like many new cars have today. I also now have a self driving Tesla with 8 cameras and radar to help me see so much easier all around without turning my neck so much and gauge space really easily, as it just tells me visually and with sound if I am parking too close. I did not learn to drive with this help, just to note, I was using the same basic feature gas cars as everyone else no issues. This just made it way way easier. With practice it is the same as everyone else, just a few modifications needed! And as with any new skill, have a lot of patience with yourself, allow for mistakes and keep trying! It took me a while to figure out where my car is related to the lines on the road and in spaces, I parked over lines a lot because I thought my car was more to one side from my blind side being on the other so I just learned to move my head, check from the mirrors and kinda stay over to one side more than I thought I needed. I believe in you! You've got this! ❤ Hope this helps anyone else with mono vision!

My friend had a false eye from an accident. His moved if it's a large muscle movement, the false eye shifted some but not like eye tracking. It's not physically attached to the socket with the same cording a natural eye has, so it's not able to track. The muscles around the orbital and the movement from blinking causes it to seem like it's shifting. At least that was my understanding ❤ she may have a better answer

@normanight So interesting to hear somebody try to explain the concept of nothingness... Imagine having this in just part of the view of a functional eye. That's what I experience and it's so hard to explain, even to doctors. They ask if I see colors or spots or a haze, and then I say, "no, just nothing. It isn't there. The space disappears." Then they go "ok, but that space then has a color instead" which makes me facepalm because it doesn't. It's just not there... Anyway, my question: you alluded to the fact that you know several (or many) people with fake eyes. How do you find people who share ocular disabilities? Because I sometimes feel the need to talk about it with people who actually know what it is, but I haven't found anywhere to find such people. And like you say: it's not something you bring up when encountering people in any other setting...

Its like you just close one eye. It's not black, you just can't see out of it. If you close both eyes it looks black, but just doesn't. At least for me.

as someone with something like the "usher sydrome" in both eyes its possible that i may be blind and or deaf some day (or "Only" partly) how did you cope with everything`? what was the inital point of time where you got like "well it is what it is"... because im feeling like i will never deal with my weak genes, how did you overcame this problem i just feel so useless and weak in every value of life, since it has started greetings

The "do you see black?" it's easy to explain. It's like the viewer trying to see what's in the video outside of the plane. It just doesn't exist for us.
