I've had my Mirena IUD for 5 years, and it's now been approved for longer. The nonhormonal copper IUD last even longer. You will hear more bad experiences than good just because people will post more about a bad experience. Everyones experiences are different. I took Aleve or advil before hand but I feel that it does not do anything. You should talk to your gyno about pain med options (anexiety/relaxers, numbing shot, numbing cream) I have a normal to high pain tolerance, it hurts but is definitly bearable. It was "toe curling" but not fainting/screaming pain. I would prefer an IUD insertion over having any stitches with no anesthetic (or having a baby😅). It will start off like a pap smear, then they will clamp your cervix to stabilize it (they will say a pinch but this hurts too), insert a measuring tool into your cervix to find the right length, and then insert the IUD the same way. The whole process should not take long. Usually you will feel a sharp pain for about 2 minutes during insertion, and cramping for a couple days after. It is recommended to schedule it while on your period so you cervix is slightly more open. A week later they will do an internal ultrasound to ensure proper placement. I had constant heavy spotting for 3 months, but have had no period or issues since and its been very effective. I think the pain is completely worth 7 years of not having to worry about birth control and I plan on getting another one. The pap smear should not hurt, maybe a light cramping when they swap the outside of your cervix. ALSO i LOVED the brain video.❤
@3ikilee
@3ikilee 6 ай бұрын
I had a similar experience with Mirena and thought it was great - I used it twice, and sure inserting it hurt (it’s your cervix after all) but then I had 10ish years of no cramps, low to no flow, and absolutely no possibility of missing a pill - I only stopped getting it replaced because I decided I no longer needed birth control.
@dawncombs1408
@dawncombs1408 6 ай бұрын
This is such a helpful comment. Wish I’d have gone the iud route vs birth control pills when I needed birth control. The pills really messed up my hormone levels And I really liked the brain scan video too. Find stuff like that fascinating. I had no idea people gave her such a hard time over it.

Same! I had 3 in the span of 12 years. I don’t need birthcontrol now. But if I ever need it again I would go with Merina again. Placing wasn’t the easiest, nut years of no hormon fluctuations was worth it:)
@alopez9907
@alopez9907 6 ай бұрын
Same I've had 2 in the last 12 years and it's been great I had spotting for almost 6 months after my first ever insertion but then nothing no period no cramps and most importantly no baby 😂 I recommend it to all my friends. You can ask your doctor for a pill that will soften your cervix. You take it the day of insertion so it's easier and less painful to insert.

Hi Morgan!!! Got my Mirena IUD a year ago. It was SOO painful going in, and for a couple of months I had spotting after "the deed", but after like 4-5 months it was over and I am SOOOOOO happy about it!!! Best decision of my life, worth the pain. If your body can take it, I'd say; try it!
@kelseygaudioso504
@kelseygaudioso504 6 ай бұрын
1. I am a doctor avoider also and didn't go to the gyno until I was 32! 2. Tracking your cycle can be a form of birth control. Determine when you are ovulating (which is just 1 week a month) and do not have sex then. There are several apps you can use along with temperature tracking. You will only get pregnant if you have sex during ovulation (or the week of). You can also have sex during that time; just use condoms. There is a great book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility, I highly recommend it! The rest of the time, you do not need to worry about protection or birth control because it is impossible to get pregnant. This does put you at risk for STDs, so please only do this if you are in a committed relationship with 1 partner who you trust. 3. My sister tried the IUD to get away form the pill. She experienced worse symptoms than on the pill. Weight gain, water weight, and high anxiety.

I have an IUD! I’m in the UK so idk if it’s any different (I assume no) but I have a 5 year hormonal IUD called Mirena. I was actually recommended it because my periods were so heavy & irregular that I would literally bleed every day for MONTHS. I’ve had it for 4 years now & it was the BEST decision I ever made. I have very light, regular periods now. No acne, no moodswings, no side affects! I will say, the insertion of the coil is 30 seconds of the most intense period pain you’ve had x3. But only 30 seconds & a woman’s mind is more powerful & just tell yourself to breathe through it. Happy to answer any questions because half of the population on this planet bleed & we’re all in this together 🥰

I got my IUD (gold IUD instead of the hormonal one) about a month ago and I was so scared before but luckily I had such a good experience!! I took hormonal birth control for almost 10 years and am soooo happy that i stopped. I had pain killers an hour before my IUD was put in + it was put in during my period since the cervic to the uterus is a bit more stretched then. I had pain gel put directly at the cervix which I would 100% recommend doing so if your doctor offers it. It reduced the pain during the procedure and hours later enormously. I had spotting for about 1-2 weeks and now am just super super super happy that I did it! Finally not thinking about taking the pill everyday + no hormoooones!! Obviously it is a totally individual experience but luckily it’s not as harmful for every woman out there. ❤️

I had an IUD for 2 years after constantly messing up my BC. If you decide to get one, ASK TO BE DILATED! The night before, my gyno prescribed me meds to take to dilate me (just slight cramping) and it made the insertion process soooo easy. Yes; there was pressure and discomfort but not bad whatsoever (because I was dilated). Fair warning that you’ll hear otherwise from people who weren’t. For me, the removal was far worse because no dilation. Everyone is different. For me, it made me have zero s-drive (similar to BC) and I had a dark cloud of depression over my head daily until I got it out. But I have friends who have had no issues.

14:11 100% truth! You can love a person but that is totally separate from if you should be with them! You should only be with them in a long term relationship if you love them AND you want the same things in life: same priorities, living situation, lifestyle, quality time together vs time apart etc. relationships are not about: so I like them and do they like me. Instead, one should ask themselves, “are we compatible enough to run a business together?” Because life and especially raising kids is literally like running a business together. How they deal with setbacks and how committed they are makes all the difference for the success of the business (relationship).

myself & 4 other women in my life have gotten the IUD but have all had terrible experiences. i do think it is a case by case basis but it is definitely not non hormonal - we’ve experienced weight gain/extreme bloat, foggy brain, bleeding through Ultra size tampons with pads, excessive sweating, parts of the IUD getting lost, & wild emotions. definitely listen to your body and your previous experiences when making a decision. i have heard more terrible experiences than good ones but im convinced those are gods chosen like the women above 🙌🏽

GIRL I LOVE MY IUD. i got mine in 2019 and got it replaced last week!! when i got it placed in 2019, it hurt so bad and was terrified of getting it replaced in the future. my OBGYN has since retired, so when i spoke to my new OBGYN about my fear of getting it replaced, she said she offers sedation for placement. it was the best decision i’ve ever made!!! the worst part was getting the IV in and the cramping afterwards, but it is NOTHING compared to the pain of placement while awake. my insurance covered 99% of the cost so i only paid like $150. i’m still cramping from the placement (6 days later), but it is totally worth not having to take a pill everyday. AND i don’t get periods, just spotting every once in a while. i have the Mirena IUD! a lot of my friends have it as well and they all love it!

Girlie with an IUD here!! I 100% recommend getting one. I've had it for two years and it's been amazing not having to worry with my boyfriend. You don't have to worry about crazy hormone changes and it slows down ur period flow. I too went onto Reddit and tiktok b4 I got one and It terrified me bc girls kept saying the same thing, how they "felt like they almost died". However, I then went to my mom and other older women that are co-workers and they said that the girls must've had a bad doctor who inserted it improperly. All in all, go for it! I admit, it's uncomfortable (I mean it's something going reeeeeally up there) but it isn't agonizing or super painful. I hope this helped!!🥰♥

Ive had a great experience, got the Mirena in July 2022. Periods have not completely gone away for me but they’re incredibly, INCREDIBLY light and short and NO PAIN. EVER. They can get a little irregular at times. But Ill take that over everything else. No negative or positive side effects or crazy changes other than that. It felt like a few minutes of bad cramps when it was put in. Like a deep pressure. That was it. More uncomfortable than painful.

I didn’t want to sit for that day. I just laid down. It’s possible to tilt it, so be careful if you’re “active” to not be too rough Honestly, once you go to your Gyno, talk about your options with them you should be fine

my gynaecologist and IUD experiences: the pap smear can be quite uncomfortable, they scratch off some tissue around your cervix, so make sure you take a deep breath! IUD wise I've had both a copper IUD (no hormones involved there) and now a hormone IUD (as it hinders the growth of my endometriosis tissues). I'd say the insertion can be really uncomfortable (it feels something being inserted somewhere where nothing should go, gross) and it might take a few weeks to get used to the IUD. But overall it's very much worth it! The copper one can make your period a bit heavier, that's something to think about especially if that's already an issue for you. The hormones in the hormone one are much less concentrated as in birth control pills as they work locally and don't have to travel all the way through your body 🤪. I personally do have slightly more issues with my skin since the hormone IUD though 🙂

I’ve had 3 IUD’s total. I have the mirena, and I love them! My first one was that was placed it was a little crampy and not to bad. I got it removed 5 yrs later with no issues My second one I had placed was when I was 6 weeks post partum, well that failed after 2 months, and dropped low into my cervix , luckily never got pregnant. Biggest advice check the strings on your iud regularly! After my second one failed I got another mirena immediately placed and I have had it in over a year. I’ve had no issues and I still check the strings regularly. Best of luck! I love the iud.

I’m 29, and I’ve had my IUD for 2-ish years now. I feel like you’re always gonna hear more horror stories about them online…simply because those stories are more “fun” to share (as compared to the positive, uneventful stories). It hurt to get put in, but I’ve definitely experienced more painful period cramps before! It’s a different kind of pain, but nothing unbearable and it doesn’t last long. I cramped a bit for a few days/a week afterwards, but it truly wasn’t bad at all. I’ve got a pretty low pain tolerance, and have always been blessed with very mild periods, and I would still consider my IUD insertion to just be mild to moderate pain. For the girls who are used to having painful periods, I feel like an IUD would be so easy! I have LOVED mine. Made my periods a bit worse for a couple months but then they really leveled out, to the point where I basically have zero period now, and very few PMS symptoms at all! I love being able to just forget about it and know that I’m still being protected for the remaining years that mine will last.

I got an IUD yesterday and I will not lie, it did hurt but its not as bad as everyone on the internet makes it sound. The actual procedure is over so so quickly, the worst part for me has been the cramps after the fact. I would describe them as very severe period cramps, they are again bad but you will survive. Most of my friends have IUDs and have had similar experiences and now swear they love it and have no regrets and I feel the same (while still going through the pain). I live in Denver and went to Partners in Women's Health around 9th and Colorado Blvd, highly recommend. Also recommend taking advil before the appointment, requesting a tens machine (electrodes for your stomach to help the pain), having someone drive you to the appointment, and making sure you have a heating pad, ice cream of choice, and no plans.

As a fellow person who was told horror stories about IUDs I will say... Don't knock it til you try it. Unfortunately for some people it can be painful and annoying for months after, or it can be put in wrong and you'll have to get it re-implanted. BUT I am one of the few girlies who barely felt it going in. The two weeks after were horrible cramps, however, I haven't had a period since (~ 6 years) and absolutely LOVE it. I got the Mirena, and there are options that have more or less hormones if you are worried about hormonal symptoms but overall I highly recommend the experience. Set it and forget it!

I can’t feel it and forget it is there but my favorite part is you don’t get your period….so why wouldn’t someone want it?!? You don’t have to worry about forgetting to take a pill 💊 everyday and you don’t even know it’s there and then you don’t have to worry about getting your period! 5 stars ⭐️ for me! And sometimes it hurts getting put in but the little bit of pain you get (if you do) only last a minute and then your good for 5+ years

I have a positive with IUD's! They supposed to last 5 years, well now they can last over 7-10 years (at least mirena is), im on my 3rd round of IUD, being using them as my main birth control. As background i used to have very painful menstrual cramps and heavy flow and never on the same time of the month. IUD helped a lot with the pain, i have almost 0% flow, didn't gained weight and the best of all is that it didn't affect my mental/emotional health, cause hormones are local, they aren't floating around through your blood like pills do. I have a high pain tolerance, i does hurt a bit when they put it in(big cramp and goes down after that) taking them ouut is not really painful. You can give it a try, I highly recommend it, best decision i made, 0 scares or accidents (in my case obviously).

I am very limited to what Birth control I can take due to hormonal breast cancer running in my family, not wanting to gain weight, or be depressed SO I got an iud after 8 years of no birth control. I had light periods with cramps that were 3 on a pain scale then with the iud I would bleed for 13+ days straight, pain was a 8-9 & so many other intense symptoms. After a year I needed it out & come to find out it had dislodged itself or was placed wrong. Which is why I was in so much pain, and it was a terrible experience getting it removed as well. The worst year period wise of my life. My body just felt like it was constantly trying to reject this foreign object, and I’m so relieved to have it gone. I wish u sooo much luck on this journey because it’s overwhelming, frustrating and pretty discouraging. Give your body and yourself grace as you adjust to whatever you end up doing

IUD girlie here! 🎀 I had my first Mirena for almost 7 years. They’re FDA approved for 5 years, as long as you’re not experiencing any symptoms that you’d normally have without it, you can keep it in for up to 7 years. I got my 2nd one almost two years ago, my fiancé and I love it so much because it’s just a set it and forget it situation. The first time around they gave me Tylenol to take before, the second time around, my gyno gave me mifepristone to soften the cervix. Another rule of thumb, the best time to get your IUD is when you have your period. It isn’t the most fun medical procedure you’ll ever have, so get a drink after & practice some self care 🫶🏼 Your gyn will also teach you to check the strings monthly, so that you know it’s exactly where it needs to be (hopefully that helps you manage some of your anxiety relating to the Reddit threads and what I’m sure has to do with IUD migration). I’ve recommended this form of birth control to so many of my girlfriends and none of them regret it! 💕

Umm, I really like your mommy but I'm STUNNED that she didn't talk to you about going to a gynecologist. Every mother or grandmother or other female mother-type has a responsibility to tell their daughters about their healthcare and the first part of that is a baseline pap smear, breast exam, and a talk about birth control options. It's important for the person you talk with about an IUD knows the details of your situation. And when I say "situation" I mean she or he has been up in there in a medical way. Last: go to a female gynecologist--they understand what you're talking about. Be well be your own best healthcare advocate.

I had the Mirena IUD for 3 years and it worked great. Didn't get a period for 2.5 of those years, but bled for the first 6 months, pretty much nonstop, it just got heavier during my "period" week, but never stopped for those first 6 months. CRAZY cramps first 8 hours after getting it, thought I might die from the pain or taking more ibuprophen that you're supposed to, but it passed really quickly. Getting it in was so painful I almost asked my gyno to stop, and I have a STRONG pain threshold, I'm able to dissociate from pain really well, but that pain I couldn't. I honestly imagine it is exactly what a labor contraction feels like because it was insane. But I got it in, the whole process from start to finish was less than 2 minutes, with the worst of the pain being maybe 15 seconds, but wow did it hurt. Once the 6 month mark had passed, I felt like I wasn't on birth control at all, since the hormones are so limited, but I would get really bad back pain pretty often, especially during what would've been my "period" time, so that was a trade off for no longer bleeding monthly. I do think I had a cyst at one point, which I had never had previously, but I googled the symptoms I had and it was exactly what came up. Sharp, intense stabbing pain a few inches below my belly button, and it stopped pretty quickly, so I think it must've burst and then luckily didn't happen again. So yeah.. it's a very mixed back imo, because with the hormone IUDs you'll probably have no period, metal ones I've heard almost no good stories about, I'd avoid those like the plague, but for every positive thing it kind of comes with a negative one as well. I got it out 3 years in because I would rather have a period than constant back pain, and as soon as I got it out the pain was gone. I wouldn't do it again, but I don't regret trying it out, my experience wasn't bad enough to say I regret it.

I have an IUD right now. The process of putting it in sucked. It felt fairly painful putting it in. My uterus was just BARELY big enough for it so I had to get an ultrasound at the check-up appointment to make sure it was still in. At the check-up appointment they noticed it started falling out so they had to take it out and put it back in which sucked because it hurt to take it out and put it back in and that meant I had to come in a third time, but at the third appointment it finally stayed in place and I feel fine right now. I like it because if you get the copper one like I have you can leave it in for up to 10 years so it's not like you have to remember to take a pill everyday and I heard it's one of the most effective forms. And my period cramps have only been super painful once so far. I'd recommend it.

I’ve had two IUDs placed. First, Mirena (hormonal) and now I have Paragard (non-hormonal). I’ve had a great experience with both. My advice would be don’t be shy with asking any questions or concerns you have. Make sure you trust your gynecologist and that you are comfortable. This will put you more at ease with getting one put in. Good luck!

Ive tried almost every (hormonal) birth control from the pill to the ring to the arm implant and the IUD (mirena iud) is the best so far! No weight gain, mood swings, or brain fog. The insertion was AWFUL and the most painful thing ever, but giving birth is probably 100x worse. My insurance fully covered it and it lasts 5-8years! I think it's definitely worth it if you're considering it. Super low maintenance compared to others.

I have had the copper IUD for almost 10 years! I am getting it removed this summer so I don’t know about the removal process. From what I can remember the insertion was just like bad period symptoms with cramping and spotting but only lasted a few days. No issues since! I recommend it to everyone. I have heard good things about the hormonal one as well, lighter and easier periods. Love you and your videos!😻💕

Just folded a bunch of laundry while drinking a glass of wine and caught myself smiling cheesily in my mirror at your hilarious stories. Totally love the Vlog and while I did watch your main channel content, I totally understand why you prefer to post here. I’m the kind of person that feels stupid commenting on things and tend to overthink what I write, but I wanted to let you know that you truly are such a light and your honesty and carefree ability to be yourself and speak your truth really is so inspiring and refreshing. Can’t wait to see the empty house tour!! Thanks for helping me get through my laundry folding session 🫶

Having an IUD for three years made me gain and hold weight like crazy, stopped my period, didn’t help my acne, made me angry all the time, I got off and made me stop feeling emotions, when I got off of it I started my period again and felt happy and / or sad again but since getting it out over a year ago I haven’t been regular, and my body chemistry or something has changed bc when I do have my period I can’t use pads or tampons bc they give me a yeast infection every time. I wouldn’t recommend I just don’t think there’s enough research into birth control and how it affects women bc no one ever has a great experience and something is always wrong but that’s my hindsight opinion good luck !
I'm ready to move on...
