Coming from a girl who was told she was "making up" and "being dramatic" about having a blood clot, only to be determined later that she did have a blood clot and could've died, I feel you. As women, we are constantly ignored by healthcare professionals and it's something we NEED to talk about. Thanks for sharing your story, let's keep this conversation going.

I feel for you. I had over four surgeries for this disease. 20 plus years back, they didn't know much. I was always sick or in and out of the E.R. All this happened after I had my Daughter. I get the Endo stomach alot. I am glad you finally got someone to listen to you.

I am a 61 year old African-American woman. At 53, I was finally diagnosed with an autoimmune disease after a life time of illnesses and hospitalizations caused by the autoimmune disease. When I was 22 I needed surgery. A doctor told me I was just anxious and take OTC medicine to calm me down. Six months and several doctors later I had the surgery. Women are often told we are being dramatic, attention seeking, et cetera. So very, very glad you finally got a diagnosis. God be with you always.

So many women, including myself, have endured medical gaslighting. The best healthcare I've ever received is from my university. During the short time I had private insurance, the healthcare wasn't great either. Medi-Cal and healthcare systems in general need to do better. Thank you for sharing!

This is so sad that so many women get disregarded for our very true symptoms. For 10 years I felt unbearable pain every cycle and I had multiple doctors refuse to do more exams. One doctor told me I might be a hypochondriac and another said it’s just period cramps take a midol. Well recently I switched to yet another doctor and they found endometriosis, a large fibroid and multiple polyps. This new doctor said the pain level with the amount of endometriosis found and the masses would be equivalent to birth pains. It only took 10 years to be heard. We know our body’s and we know when something is wrong.

41 and was diagnosed 6 months ago with endo. But even though I am diagnosed I got no help so far so it really dosen't matter because with endo there's not much a doc can do. Yes, there's the surgery but that's not the answer because it comes back so yeah.

@ I’ve had two surgeries & my pain isn’t worse than it’s ever been. After my first surgery, I was great for over a year. The second surgery didn’t even work! I literally felt the endo pain through the morphine after surgery & they tried to tell me it was just the surgery pain - as if I couldn’t tell the difference! Norethindrone (5mg) has helped a lot. Also, use an ice pack, not a heating pad for your pains!! I got lucky when I diagnosed because my gynecologist’s daughter had it & recognized the symptoms. The downside was that no one ever heard of it before & my girlfriends thought I was just being dramatic. My boyfriend was a lot more understanding, mood swings and all 😂

Lauren, this really struck home for me. I'm 53 and I have suffered these symptoms for so many years. The pain is indescribable. You literally can't do anything, and nothing helps. Endo belly is horrible. You feel alien in your own body. My doctors never listened either. "It's normal". When I finally got approved for a hysterectomy (after doing everything they asked for FOUR years), I had fibroid tumors in my uterus the size of a 7 month pregnancy. They were benign (noncancerous), thank the Lord. I had a deformed ovary with multiple cysts and a very large cyst on my right fallopian tube. That's the side that has always given me the most pain. I was in surgery over 6 hours while they worked to get all of it out. The endo lesions were everywhere. I'm pain free for the first time in twenty plus years.

It breaks my heart that you would rather feel extreme intense pain than go to the ER and deal with a medical staff that doesn’t believe you 💔 That should NEVER happen… EVER. It’s happened to me and it’s a horrible feeling and like you, I figured out myself what was going on and it turned out I was right. You are so, so stong and brave, amazing job at being your own advocate until you got answers!

I am one of your older followers at 54 years old. I had endometriosis as well. Unless you have it, there is no way to really explain it because there are so many different symptoms. But I want you to know you were heard and you are validated! I’ve been through so many things in the course of my years. After having my children, I opted for hysterectomy which may be controversial. Regardless of what you choose to do with your body, I want you to know that you have a huge following of supporters myself included. I am so very sorry you’ve had to endure this, especially in private. I will say you’re one of the few people that will share things online in hopes of helping other people whether it was Elle’s sickness or now your own. I will be praying for your path. You are strong you are beautiful and you are amazing. God made you and you are perfect!💕

I cannot FATHOM how health professionals can push their notions of “you’re making it up” on us. I feel such rage too when I think about people not thinking Endometriosis is not important enough to do more research on.. I’m so so sorry you had to go through that, sending you all my hugs Lauren😭💓 .. To all the women who are going through endometriosis, please please PLEASE consider going to Penang! I just got endometrial surgery myself, and multiple friends have recommended me go there to do this since they experienced a successful surgery themselves. The doctors were quick to diagnose, and they told me sooo many women go through endo! for me, in total with all the checkups, I think would total up to around 28000 Ringgit or less, incl all surgery fee, hospital room fee, food in the wards, medicine when you’re a patient (which would be: arnd 6000 dollars I think) I had my own long journey w Endometriosis so I thought I’d share in case this can help someone, anyone. I’m truly looking forward to be healthy❤sending love to all women struggling with menstrual pains/ any reproductive pains! Thanks for the video Lauren! Stay healthy and happy recovery!

As someone with PCOS, I've had countless awful OBGYN experiences. I am so deeply sorry for what you've been through. Women, people of color, people in larger bodies, etc. are constantly gaslit and dismissed by health professionals, which is deplorable. Medicine was never designed to ensure that EVERYONE got the care they need, and we need to advocate for change. The field of medicine needs to DO BETTER. This is a great example of how the patriarchy, how fatphobia, how racism shows up in such deep embedded ways in our society. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

Sweet girl, I'm so sorry that our healthcare system failed you so many times. But I so greatly admire your courage in sharing your story. I watched your college vlogs while I was in college and your joy was always a great comfort and inspiration to me in the hard times that come with being a college student. I don't have endo, but I've always struggled with horribly painful periods. Having your pain belittled and dismissed is one of the most humiliating and dehumanizing experiences that anyone can go through, and unfortunately so many of us women have experienced it at one point or another. I went to the student health center for a UTI once and the doctor told me that the only thing he could do for me was prescribe birth control... No recognition of my horrible pain (I was weeping) & no bothering to really look into the issue (which in my case was easily identifiable and treatable). I'm so proud of you for advocating for yourself, even when you felt like you couldn't. I'm so glad to see that you're finally getting some answers. Keep smiling & keep being your beautiful self

Please report the OBGYN that told you that endometriosis isn’t real to the medical board. They need to be held accountable for providing false information that could lead to other medical concerns for patients. As a psychotherapist, I have had women in my office who were treated like you were. They developed anxiety, depression, and a clinical mistrust of the medical community. These doctors caused them to develop mental health disorders bc they were told they were liars, dramatic, immature, and sometimes pill seeking addicts! It’s horrible what you went through. Thank you for bei my so transparent for the young women who are your peers and those who look up to you as a mentor & someone to aspire to be. I pray that the remainder of your endometriosis journey is a better one and that the doctors that made you feel less than, see your story and they apologize for causing you 13 years of unnecessary trauma and pain.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 Endometriosis in 2020 when I had my laparoscopy surgery. It’s so sad but I remember feeling happy when they told me they found it. Years of my life spent feeling crazy because I had pain that no one could see or understand. Unfortunately I am one of the unlucky who has infertility because of this condition. If I could go back in time, I would freeze my eggs. We’ve done fertility treatments with no success yet. I will say, the surgery helped my pain a ton but recently my symptoms are coming back which isn’t uncommon as there is no cure. I wish you the very best in your recovery! Thank you for being open with your story! Endometriosis isn’t talked about enough so I appreciate you using your platform to speak on it.🎗️

I’m 29 years old, found out 2 months ago that I have Endo. It’s really heartbreaking to me, especially because I’ve been told my entire life that it’s all normal and I’m just overly dramatic. I’ve already had one emergency surgery with my one fallopian tube (which unfortunately I no longer have) and was told after I demanded more test be done that “there’s slight damage on my other tube, but I’m super healthy and nothing is wrong and I don’t need to be concerned” - so finding out that I have Endo and there are major infertility connections to it has finally given me some answers to why my one tube was removed and the other one is damaged and also that all of this wasn’t me being dramatic and that it’s a very real pain and issues I’ve been having. Thank you for sharing this video 💗 honestly, without the internet and being able to connect with people all around the world, I probably would have still believed that “it’s just normal” - all of this really gives me hope that living with this pain and being intense pain killers doesn’t need to part of my future forever and that I can actually do something to heal it 💗

This is exactly my experience! The gaslighting, the years of vomiting and passing out during periods, the doctors telling me it's all in my head, the YEARS of infertility with no answers. Finally, a doctor believed me and did the surgery to diagnose and treat. Afterward, he told me that I had one of the worst cases he had ever seen and that he couldn't even burn off all the lesions as some had fused my internal organs in places he wasn't comfortable ablating. It has been 4 years since my surgery and my symptoms have improved so much. I don't experience endo belly as often and my periods are so much more bearable now. It didn't cure my infertility but I am so thankful someone finally listened after all that time!

that look at the beginning of your story, I remember that feeling. I felt every part of your video. I'm 55. Suspected endo at 19, laparoscopy at 21 confirmed it. I spent so much of my life dealing with endo and the IBS it created. It affected my college years, my career, relationships, everything. I was told at 25 that I couldn't conceive kids naturally because endo closed up my fallopian tubes. I ended up conceiving and having 2 kids, at 27 and 35 with no issues (much to my dr's surprise). I was told at 37 by my ob/gyn that she didn't believe in endo so I lost a great dr there. I took so much Tylenol that if affected my intestines. It's so hard dealing with something that you just don't know how to deal with. But you have a great community out there of fellow Endo survivors. They helped me so much in just listening. After my last baby, I tried to get a total hysterectomy but no dr would touch me. So when I went into perimenopause in my early 40's, it was a welcomed thing. Menopause is the only thing that "cured" my endo. Big hugs to you and know that you have a supporter in me.

Bless your sweet heart!! I am 45, and I have had a lifetime of absolute nonsense from our American healthcare system. If I can give any advice it is NEVER stop advocating for your health because nobody else will. I have dealt with endometriosis,PCOS, ovarian cysts, and thyroid problems. Nobody listened to me and I finally found a specialist that took me seriously. I went through a thyroid cancer scare last year on top of everything else. And endometriosis is not rare. I have it, my daughters have it, and my mom has it. My mom hemorrhaged when she was in her early 30’s and it could have easily taken her from us. Never stop fighting for your health! 🩷🩷🩷

@@jenica9705 I'm so sorry to hear you have suffered for so long. My hope for the future generations is that they won't have to wait as long as we did. It really takes finding a good doctor who will be focused on the root problem and not just throwing medication at symptoms. I used to have women be the most unsupportive before I was diagnosed. They would tell me every woman has a period and I must be making a bigger deal than it really was when my endometriosis ended up being one of the most aggressive my doctor had seen. With the new diagnosis being done now, I'm considered stage 4. I wish you all the best in your healing and hopefully feeling better.

Lauren, i am so proud of you for demanding help & answers! My mom (54) had endometriosis her whole life. She suffered horrible symptoms & never was able to receive any real diagnosis. When she was about 40 years old, she went into surgery to remove a cyst that the doctor found on an ultrasound & once they cut her open they found endometriosis so severe that tissue was growing around most of her organs in her lower abdomen, including her colon. Nobody was aware that she had endometriosis at all because they could never see it. Since it was so severe, they had to remove her uterus & reroute her colon for a few months while her organs healed from the tissue that was removed. I was 10 years old at the time & I remember the doctor explaining to my dad that she almost died because she lost so much blood since it was an unexpected surgery. You are so lucky to be aware of your condition & to be receiving help this young. Thank you for spreading awareness to women around the world.

It can be so hard to find that these days. What you went through should not happen, and I’m so sorry that it did. I’m proud of you for taking going back, facing your fears, and taking steps to get better and get answers. I’m praying for you!

I love your vulnerability and honesty in this video, Lauren. It’s a shame you were treated the way you were by those who are supposed to be helping treat your health. While I don’t have endo, I was diagnosed with PCOS last October, so I always enjoy women talking about these specific health conditions because it’s not talked about nearly enough. Love you and hope you continue to heal both physically and mentally from your surgery and previous endometriosis experiences! ❤️

I'm 41, and was only officially diagnosed with PCOS at 36 and finally started receiving actual treatment for it. There were years of absolutely torturous periods and pain that I will never get back because my previous healthcare providers didn't care about my quality of life and blamed all my issues on my weight. They were too busy fat shaming me to even diagnose me with the chronic metabolic disorder that was affecting my weight. Thanks for sharing your story, we need to be more open and honest about women's health issues and this is a great example to set for younger women!

Thank you so much for telling your story. As a women with chronic pain, I can relate to professionals and family/friends/peers not understanding or invalidating pain. All it takes is that one person who says I believe you to bring some kind of relief. I hope that you continue to feel relief from the surgery and other treatments. Thank you for being vulnerable and know that we stand with you ❤

Best management would be birth controll pills as long as you are not trying to get pregnant, and, as I understand the US just released an OTC FDA aproved pill so you could give it a shot?

You were told it was all in your head for 13 years and grew stronger to be able to put your foot down and get real answers. I don’t have endo, but I understand your pain when it comes to health care. I am a Type 1 Diabetic and have heard from my doctors in the past that it is my fault for my disease and that I should fix it, without giving me the proper tools and guidance to fix it. I finally found a doctor that helps me and got my diabetes in better control but it took standing up for myself and knowing my body. I’m so grateful to shared your story for all of us who suffer and get ignored.

Hi Lauren, I've been watching your videos for a year now and wanted to thank you so much for sharing this. I'm a medical student about to start my clinical rotations tomorrow, and hearing your story really made me understand how important it is for us healthcare providers to listen to our patients and trust that they know they're own bodies better than we ever will and that we should never gaslight our patients about their health. Your videos have helped me get through some of the most stressful times during medical school, and hearing everything you've gone through on your endometriosis journey has really inspired me to be a better clinician as I enter the hospital. I hope you know how much of a positive impact all of your videos have on us viewers, and I really hope you are able to get the care that you deserve.

Ugh I want to give you a hug! Can definitely relate to being told you’re “making up” your pain. I’ve had so many health problems the last two years now. First was my gallbladder and the first time I went to the ER they said I was just “anxious” and that was it. Found out 5 months later I was having hour long gallbladder attacks and was told oh yeah they feel like a heart attack 🙃 now after several tests looking “normal” working with a more holistic NP and found out sooo many issues we are working on and getting fixed and also found out I have fibroids and possibly Endo. Finally started advocating for myself to get everything taken care of! It’s so sad how many women get dismissed and told oh nothing is wrong when we know our bodies better than anyone!

I’m so glad you had a doctor listen to you! I’ve never had endometriosis, but I was experiencing major side effects from my iud. So much so that it impacted all areas of my life. Emotions, weight, acne, relationships, also an attempt on my life. Thankfully I called my gynecologist and booked an appointment. When I explained my symptoms and why it tools 3 years to realize, she didn’t hesitate and removed it immediately. Since then I feel more like myself, but I can’t use normal contraceptives because all my children were conceived on contraceptives. I decided to remove my tubes. I had full support and encouragement from the doctors! So I’m glad to hear there are other women whose voices are being heard about the crazy and painful things that happen to our bodies!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for speaking about this!!! I had cysts on my ovaries when I was in middle school and the pain was so bad I would become physically ill. I had to have one cyst surgically removed from my right fallopian tube because it wasn’t receding and it ended up helping me so much for the next few years but I still had immensely painful cramps. So many people didn’t believe that I was really feeling that pain, and it’s so incredibly frustrating and crushing to experience that, especially from doctors who are supposed to help you. So proud of you and happy to hear that you’ve finally found an answer❤
