JOSEPH WILLIAMS, who was born without a jaw, never thought he would find love - until he met his wife, Vania. The 41-year-old from Chicago has a rare congenital disorder, otofacial syndrome, which left him unable to speak or eat with his mouth. Instead, he relies on an eating tube and communicates through a mobile device and sign language. In 2019, Joseph and Vania met at work and became friends. Despite Joseph's facial difference, Vania fell in love with him. Their relationship has faced judgement from families, friends and even strangers online - but the couple, who have been happily married for two years, believes their love goes way beyond their physical difference.

@@SoftPico920 they can if they want to, if you're worried about the child having otofacial syndrome as well there's two points: their father would have extremely good knowledge of the disorder so the likelihood of the child dying would be decreased quite a bit. plus, otofacial syndrome is extremely rare, so it's more likely the child will not have the disorder.

I love that he shared how he wishes people would just ask them questions rather than gawking... I'm a wheelchair user with a central line and I've always felt the same way. People are always so terrified to ask questions, worried that they'll offend me, but I'd much rather have the opportunity to educate someone about my rare condition rather than just be stared at. This is something I hear all the time from other disabled people as well.

You know, as a person who had a 14 hour surgery in which I had a near total submandibularectomy (removed most of my lower jaw) in which my left fibula bone was used to reconstruct my jaw I completely understand this. I was in the hospital for 5 months and they were almost not able to do what they did. I would have had a permanent trach, feeding tube, and not able to speak any longer. It is a blessing that he is able to find love with someone who loves him enough to eventually look past the outer exterior to look at the inner person.✨️
