Raid keys remind me of when I bought my truck. The dealership wanted a few hundred extra for keyless entry so I declined but later after I got the truck home I was thinking maybe I should've just bought it but figured I could probably do it aftermarket much cheaper. So I go online to check prices and it turns out that everything I need for keyless entry is already built into the trucks electronics, even the radio receiver it was all there the only thing I needed was the little remote that goes on your keychain called a key fob. I ordered a key fob for 4 dollars on amazon when it came I synced it to the truck and had it working in less than 2 minutes. I couldn't believe they tried to charge me $400 for a 4 dollar piece of plastic and 2 minutes of labor, how do they even sleep at night.

huckjam yep people all over the world man. My lcd monitor was not working and i took it to an computer repair guy. He asked 2000 rupees for that (convert to $ if u want man). I decided to repair it since the monitor was old. Turns out the power capacitor was blown out and when I went to the electronics market to buy one, the shopkeeper gave me 2 capacitors for 10 rupees since he didn't have change😅 . Even if u can't convert it $ see the difference between 2k and 10 . Fuckers!!!
@Aevilbeast
@Aevilbeast 7 жыл бұрын
That's not really a good comparison, kinda like comparing apples to oranges. While yeah it might be a big difference in price, but the thing is with a repair you are aren't just paying for the part...You are also paying for the service and the repairman's experience & skill. Not everyone knows how to repair things like electronics themselves or just don't have the time to do it themselves. You are also paying for the convenience of having someone else doing it for you, instead of trying to figure what's wrong then looking up how to do the repair, finding and buying the right parts and all the tools you might need to do the repair, and then actually doing the repairs without messing anything up. I do agree that a lot times people who do repairs charge WAY more than they should especially for things that are simple to fix or something you could do yourself. The best thing is always to do research on your issue and always call up a few different places to see what they charge.
@akafede4351
@akafede4351 7 жыл бұрын
Exactly, the entire monitor board is worth a couple of bucks, but when you buy it you are paying the time working on it, salaries patents and shit. Same as when people ask for parts or someone brings a PC for diagnosis, normally I don't charge for diagnosis or questions about parts, but it IS time wasted for me, I'm here telling you shit for free instead of being in the beach or hanging out with friends, or even relaxed taking a dump and reading lol.
@darkrac2
@darkrac2 7 жыл бұрын
James Laforme I agree with your view that not everyone would want to invest time to see how it can be repaired or have soldering tools or have the guts to try it but what I won't agree is that he was charging fairly because another repair shop charged me 350 for a similar job- changing a capacitor in the mobo

Hmm, if you're a geography buff like me, you are wondering, "What city he is walking around in?" (also because people are instinctively shunning the camera, which makes me want to go there) At 7:17 you see "Fu Hau" which is a hotel in Taipei. It's on his left, and he turns left out of his hotel, so tracing back his steps, that sweet hotel room appears to be the Park Taipei Hotel. *A STEAL AT $82/NIGHT!* Thanks Google maps.

shamanik1320 of course it would be great for thermals. but the thing is IHS are put on for a reason. they are there to protect the CPU from being damaged by the cooler when mounting. imagine a typical customer putting on their heatsink only to find out they chipped their CPU and thus bricked it? that would be a sad day indeed

I'm sure intel went into panic mode knowing that 98% of their consumers know very little about specifications and just used the "up to" so the average consumer can say oh wow this way better than AMD. But as you can see people that know their stuff this is really disappointing.

Intel USED to mean "the best" for just about everything. Slowly, while reigning over all other manufacturers, they grew complacent. They only tried to stay a little bit ahead and now that AMD has made a comeback, they are out of practice on how to react. Linus, your criticisms (per usual) are more than fair. Intel, WTF?!? This is the first generation I'm going AMD on. YOU DID THIS!!!!!

TigerDan04 Well it's not like these two companies haven't been doing this for the past 30 years almost, Intel has been the top dog and every 10 years give or take AMD pulls a rabbit out of their hat which sends Intel flailing for a year or two then guess where AMD ends back up again? Yup back in second place as always, they don't innovate anything for another ten years and the process repeats.

AMD hammered the shit out of Intel in the Athlon days, and not for just a year or two. I don't think Ryzen will be on that level, but Ryzen is definitely gonna take Intel down 3 or 4 pegs.

Don't get me wrong I have loved AMD when they were in their good years, Back in 96' and again shocking in 06' and now they are back ahead of Intel in 2017. They'll likely lead the market till around 2020 when Intel manages to pull their pants up and start innovating themselves instead of pumping out these "new" processors which aren't worth buying for a whole 5% performance increase over the last series.

Makes it even more awful. Same thing with Optane caching for the 16gb and 32gb. They try to make it sound like a DLC too. You have to use their "special sauce" for HDD caching. You CAN use it like any other drive if you want to. But they try to limit everyone through software choices AND they limit you by bullshitting about what's doable and what is not.

cause AMD cares about what they sell, not the money they get. which is ironic cause people running intel is the idiots that takes everything for granted runnig around with their smart-everythings, connected with their phone they dont even know what internals it have, to drive around in their car with probably several of their own products in. and they are legit killing future of the devices they would use themselves, kinda. comming from somone who was cinsidering buying the 12 core, but decided to wait for 7nm instead(probably also the 7nm intel lineup) cause lets face it, raw performance, they still do kinda lead. if you remove price

I see your point, that you believe that android is better, but Apple is a competitor, even if it sucks as you say. Currently Apple holds about 20% of the market share on smartphones, which means that every fifth phone sold in the past couple of years is an iPhone, which makes Apple quite a serious competitor, even if it sucks.

To paraphrase Peter Thiel, to start worrying about your competition more than your own product is to basically lose your edge. Intel is more worried about what AMD is doing (or not doing) that they have lost focus on producing products that make sense to the consumers.

Consumers: Man, the pc hardware market has been stagnant for way too long, 4~5% increase in performance per year sucks. We want something new. Intel: You mean like physical DLC? Consumers: What? Intel: Yeah like when you buy a game with locked content that it's already there and then pay extra to unlock it. Consumers: What? No. That's horrible. We mean like an actual new architecture that's scalable and makes it easier for software developers to not rely so much on single-thread performance since we are still not seeing the huge improvement from multicore processing we were promised 10 years ago. Intel: Oh, real life DLC it is then.
@grex2595
@grex2595 7 жыл бұрын
A lot of the lack of multicore performance comes from the significantly increased difficulty making multithreaded applications work properly. With a single thread, the instructions are processed in an easy to predict order. Instruction A goes first, then B, then C. With multithreading, you have no way of knowing until runtime what order the instructions will be processed in. Sure, it should be relatively easy to prevent race conditions or improper use of locking mechanisms, but when you have 20 people working on an application, it's a lot easier for one person's code to interfere with another's.

Otto Knabe If you go via suggested leaks and the crossfire demo to run Prey @4K, things are not looking good for Vega. Since Maxwell, Nvidia is leading with giant leaps in performance. Intel otoh has stopped innovating altogether. It looks more like a company run by sales guy than a techie to be honest.

This is why i subscribed. Other tech channels drop to their knees and articulate their satisfaction in a grand manner at the slightest whiff of X299 and the new i9. LTT approach these launches in a much more analytical fashion, look at the data, contemplate their opinions on the matter, and THEN make a video. That's the way to do it.

I'm totally with you. Intel needs to wake up and realize that the consumer is becoming more well informed than ever and these tricks of "Well its a lot of $$$ because its really good" is not going to work anymore. We know it can be done for cheaper because AMD is doing it right now. Intel needs to plan their next steps very carefully if they want to keep their reputation. Edit: I probably should have worded the last sentence better. what I mean by reputation is that kind of is known as the company to go to for CPUs, and unless they change how they price things they will start to lose customers to AMD very fast.

The truth is, Intel was the top dog for quite a few years. They knew it, and the public knew it. Being the top dog meant they can make tiny iterations over and over and still expect people to buy their chips. All I can say is, thank god for AMD stepping up their game. They caught Intel entirely unaware, and now Intel, for the first time in years, might have to actually try to put out a product that is more than a small iteration. Everything Linus pointed out is evidence that Intel got caught with their pants down, but the icing on the cake is that none of their high core count CPUs will be available until the end of this year, or well into next year (for the 18 core CPU). They literally had no plans to release high core count cpus to consumers, and if it wasn't for AMD, they might never have done it.
@SuperJosteen

Noob Slayer well intel will be forced to cut their profit margins or else they will get spanked by AMD going forward, Intel's architecture is scalable, although not as scalable as ryzen, but basically intel fabricated a single type of wafer that will be cut into 6-18 cores according to the needs, while with ryzen amd made quad cores wafer that will be sticked together with IF according to the needs. So intel should have been able to at least make a cheap 8 cores like amd but they wont for some reason, which is just irritating.

I think you're being too easy on them. This is the culmination of years of "market segmentation", which is great for business folks, goes over average consumers heads and really infuriates enthusiasts (non fanboy type). I see they want to respond to thread ripper but they've segmented so much their entire business model is not flexible enough to accommodate an appropriate response. They're going to need an entirely new top down re-think which will take at least a year or two, but the pressure is that in the next 8-12 months there is a strong possibility that AMD takes back a huge chunk of the market.

Then as I read the specs I was met with nothing but disappointment when I realized it was just the 7600K and 7700k without onboard graphics and needing a more expensive motherboard.

The mythical market did nothing. A small group of engineers coordinated with a legend in the field of CPU designs and set out to shoot the moon and see what happens. It's now a matter of consumers waking up and choosing something else. In this ``market'' there are only 2 players. The choice is binary, so to say the market prevails is not grasping the concept of choice. When two possible options exist, eventually they will once more settle on equal footing. This world has shown more than two options is consumed by mergers. Until a well-regulated market arrives this is all posturing and semantics on the notion of a free market.

Gamers Nexus aren't exactly what i'd call "reputable". By the way "sucks" is a massive exaggeration, while they will be slightly slower than Sky/kabylake, they will be at least as fast as the majority of intels mainstream chips at gaming. Zen has much higher IPC than Sandybridge, which is still considered an extremely capable architecture to this day for gaming. So no, ThreadRipper will not "suck" at gaming.

Which is EXACTLY what everyone (with a brain) was hoping for. AMD needed to get their act together and put out something that pushed Intel hard, and scared them into getting themselves into gear. But Intel has completely forgotten how to be competitive the last few years and this hodgepodge i9 stuff demonstrates it. "Wait, WHAT did AMD just announce?! HOLY COW! Quick, guys, we need to do something in the worst way." "OK, boss, we've done something in the worst way."

I've been squarely in the Intel camp for five years, because of their unbeatable per-core performance... But my first gaming build was a Phenom II x6 1090t, the best performance and value you could get on the market in its time. Damn fine CPU. And let's not forget AMD's glory days of having the first consumer 64-bit CPU, and their "FPU 3D Now!" technology, a special instruction set designed to speed up 3D graphics performance via the CPU. It was basically the forerunner to modern-day integrated graphics. AMD have been flapping their arms for far too long now; I'm glad to see them coming back.
