I have the beach to myself on Sanibel Island. I don't know why there were so many fabulous seashells but I couldn't stop picking them up!

A lot of people would not find looking for shells and walking very fun. This takes me back to my high school days and other times when I visited my parents at Sanibel and would just spend hours and hours looking for shells. I have five shell mirrors, a shell jewelry box, and two shell photo frames that I made from shells out there. I'm so weird, because I used to go out there totally by myself and stay out there for hours and hours, head down for so long, I almost passed out from the sun, heat and overuse of my searching eyes. This is something so many people do not know about me. I can walk and stroll the same area over and over and over and over again for years and never get bored, and just lose myself and stay out there until my mind is completely emptied. So many people would see this as "wasted" time, but that's the kind of thing that I really love to do, walk and look, silently walk, look at nature's beauty, and go on and on and on until I am mentally and physically exhausted. What a wonderful life I've lived.

Enjoyed the video. What I would like to know is how to get to the beaches such as you show without owning property. The very few beaches for public do not have the shells Sanibel is suppose to be known for. I was very heartbroken to find my 1st visit to Florida with Sanibel the highlight of the trip and finding mostly white shells and some calico's that can be found all over Florida's beaches. So happy you are enjoying yourself though.

There are plenty of public parking lots open and Sanibel always has shells. Depending on the time of year you visit will determine the quantity and quality of the shells you find.

I first went to Sanibel in the summer of 1968. My aunt and uncle introduced me to "the island"we stayed at the West wind inn. I went to the island for my hunnymoon. I first went when I was 11 we watched the trees planted at the West wind. As the years went by we took our son and daughter there. I am now 66 years old. I breaks my heart to see the devietation. It can be restored but to me it will never be the same. I look at my shells and think of all my special family times and there are no words to express how I feel. It is a dream to return but I was injured while nursing and I don't think I can tolerate the trip. It is a precious special place to be treasured and appreciated. I want to go back 1time before Im gone if my prayers are answered I will ❤

There have only been a few times when the shells has been so good I take shells out of my shell bag and get them into my backpack so I can have more room for shells - LOL! I remember doing this at Honeymoon Island for sure, probably a time or two on Kice and this day. I couldn't help it - there were so many fabulous shells everywhere! Nature is so resilient - much more so than us humans, that is for sure. I wish you a wonderful week as well! ❤️🐚🌴🌊

So many beautiful things that I would have had trouble figuring out a favorite. I think my favorite for this trip was that great big blue-colored banded tulip. That first buttercup lucine that was so yellow was incredible as was the yellowish giant cockle. If I ever get to come to Florida, I will need 2 shells bags with reinforced straps! So happy to find your videos. We will be in FL in June and was thinking Sanibel Island would be closed for construction. However, after watching your videos we will certainly put it on our to do list. Keep the videos coming please. I love all of your shell collections. Any tips you can provide for visitors will be greatly appreciated.

There are restaurants on the island open too, so if you do a little research you can enjoy the beach and a wonderful meal as well! sanibel-island.sanibel-captiva.org/list/ql/restaurants-food-beverages-22

at 8:00 that's a pelvis I reckon. At 17:25 the Egg Cockle (Laevicardium serratum) looks very much like its giant cousin at the tropical west coast (Baja California), Laevicardium elatum or the Giant Egg Cockle. I recently bought one of a good 6" across. One of my favorite species and not at all rare. Sometimes a very nice yellow colour as well. At 19:00 the golden form it seems, very nice. Often golden forms are called 'aurata'.

I just looked up Laevicardium elatum and what a lovely shell! I wonder what phase in my shell collecting I am as I am starting to appreciate even the most common of shells. I'm always so impressed with all the Latin you've learned!

I am not 100% sure because you did not turn the skull thing over, but the back of it looks like what the shops in Galveston call a Crucifix fish because one side looks like Jesus on the Cross. I found a lot of those in Galveston when I was a kid, they are a fish skull, but I can't remember what type fish.

LOL your shell bag didn't stand a chance! I don't recall hearing if you said which beach you were on, but oh my the shells! Of course if no one is there to pick them up, there will be a ton of them. What a fun trip, and just makes me want to come back even more!
