3~4% increase is basically inflation correction. The precious metal models seem to have increased by 6~7%, so gold prices probably went up more than the standard inflation.

Not really because of gold price, how much does a solid gold Sub weigh, 225 grams or thereabouts? The gold value is therefore not more than about £7500 or thereabouts. So the price of the watch being so much more than the steel version is not really justified by the price of gold.

Just my 2 cents here. Ive gotten the call on 2 rolexes. I turned them both down. Have had many many watches over the years. From 900 bucks to 15000. Most of the major brands including rolex. And i gotta say. My fave watch i wear the most is now just a Ball heritage watch. Blacked out. Cost me about 1500 bucks. Rubber strap. Nothing fancy. Never worry about it. Local watch maker can fix it if it ever needs anything. Its so nice to not give a shit. Anyway. Have a good one

AD emailed me yesterday that the watch (Explorer 2 Polar) is now available. I said I’m traveling right now and would be back after new year. He then called me and said from January the price would be over 10,000 Euro due to the price increases. I declined and said that’s too much, maybe someone else will appreciate it more willing to pay the new prices. Hopefully someone gets a nice Christmas surprise. 🎄

Oisin, inflation pain is only really filtering through in the UK now, along with people coming off fixed price mortgage rates and getting obscene hikes in their overheads. The car market has stalled since October, particularly high end, all related to interest rates. All luxury goods are underpinned in some way by finance so its coming....

I agree a few hundred dollar increase isn't much but if you include price increases from the past several years than the increase is significant. A perfect example of this is the automobile market. Vehicles prices have increased by 50% in the past decade. Not sure if any of salaries have increased at the same pace!

This is precisely what I was thinking. I'm in the U.S. and the current MSRP of $10,500 for the DJ that I want already seemed a bit excessive for how much watch I would be getting in return. I just don't think their watches are worth what they're asking. I used to say that I thought Rolexes were priced about right, not overpriced and not underpriced, now I think they're a bit overpriced.

So about 4% on most, not bad at all. That would seem to indicate that Rolex sees trouble ahead. I don't know about on that side of the pond, but Canada/U.S. inflation numbers have been over 4%, even the "managed" inflation numbers, never mind the real ones. The only surprise is the larger percentage jump in a couple of the bimetals, since they seem to be a little slower moving than the SS models. Also wondering why they didn't cash in on some of that fat premium on Daytona's. Given the cost of money these days, I don't think paying 4% more will really be a deterrent for those forced to pay 2024 prices.

In America the prices of these watches are actually a bit lower than the euro price. A no date sub is $9100 in America, the 9150 euro price is equal to $10,081. But with sales tax, which varies state to state, the actual price paid will be closer to parity. In my state, it's a 6.35 percent tax, so $9100 becomes $9677. Some states do not have a sales tax on watches. Oregon, Alaska, Delaware, New Hampshire, and Montana have no sales tax on watches.

Would be great to live in one of those no-sales-tax states. New York is 8.25% One interesting thing: The sales tax built into the prices here is as much as 22%. If you buy one here and fly back, you will get that money back. A lot. You're supposed to then declare it in your state but many don't do it.

these price hikes are probably a bad decision at this point in time and I think you will see a drop in demand. Many people seem to regurgitate a mantra that they've heard other people say that is something similar to "Rolex prices are fair" and on the face of it they might seem ok when faced with what some people pay on the Grey Market but I think these Rolex hiked prices are indicative of a strategy that could have negative ramifications for Rolex. For me, Rolex prices are too high when you consider what other watches are available for that money. Markets and trends change.. I would keep watching..

Fashion trends also change and Rolex cycles in and out every 20 years or so. Everyone will say "I dont care about fashion trends" maybe they dont, but most people definitely do. Rolexes are now unfortunately seen as boorish low class status symbols. I think people might be shocked by the flood of used stock hitting the market from people who need the money or who just dont dig them anymore, chancers who thought it would be a smart investment a few years ago scramble to offload them with no hype buyers. Don't even start on vintage as more of the boomers die off. There's so many of these watches out there, bought as retirement treats or random silent collectors who have dozens of a 4 and 5 digit models, bubble backs, milsubs, red Sea dwellers even Daytonas etc

Yes, sales tax in the U.S., 3:24 but Europe has the VAT tax, so the prices shown on the list already include the VAT, which if you're buying from the states, you get refunded, which in Italy is around 22% which is much higher than the typical 5% U.S. state sales tax. So the 9150 euro price you show already includes a 22% tax in it of about 1800 euros give or take.

For those people on here saying why pay for Rolex when Omega makes better watch for 30% less, its Because 95% of people, anywhere in the world, know the Rolex crown, and know it's an expensive watch. You'd be lucky if you find 5% of the public that would recognize the Omega symbol, let alone the name. In addition, Rolex keeps their lineup of watches "boring" for a reason, to have instant recognizability. This includes the fluted bezels, the polished center links, the cyclops, etc.

That she didn't think she had the time she passed away 3 hours later she also had said she knows her son is useless but it still her son please don't throw him out. He's 23. 5 ft 10 over 500lbs. And reminds me regularly that I promised Mom before she died I can't throw him out I'm asking him to get a job that's something he's uncomfortable with.. he is also said if the bills are a problem why don't I get a better paying job. So I will do what I can.

It's a shame what's happened to rolex, I've walked into a few independents in the recent past and at first they look you up and down as if you might want to rob them then practically laugh if you ask about buying a watch. Its a far cry from 2012 when I walked into ernest Jones in. Bristol and tried on a polar explorer very approachable staff laid back, I recall it was about £4400 quid, and I almost bought it but coming from a 36mm datejust it seemed like a saucer on my wrist - how I wish I'd bought it now! I'm sure if you're a celebrity they'll find whatever you want within a few days or find one in a safe, but nowadays I wouldn't waste my time.

The only reason - brand goodwill. Nothing else. No matter what the Rolex fanboys say the Omega SMP is a much better watch both looks and movement wise. Note for the Rolex fanboys: I have the same number of both Rolex and Omega watches in my collection so keep your you can’t afford Rolex BS to yourself.

It’s very simple. The name on the dial. The smp is every bit as good a watch. But I will say that there is something to the look of a sub. It has a masculine aggressive look the smp doesn’t quite have.

So paying the extra simply depends on how much value you place on the Rolex brand and that of course is an entirely subjective judgement.

I disagree with @Petrolhead007. The Rolex sub is better looking. There is also a difference in manufacturing and quality. Omega watches come with a 5 year guarantee whilst a new Rolex come with a 10 year one. Day to day wise my omega loses time and my Rolex does not.

I bought my first Explorer I in 1985 for $550, as a knock around watch. I was given a Datejust stainless steel with white gold bezel as a graduation present in 1983, which cost less than $2000. In 2000, I paid $3300 for a white Explorer II. The prices they are asking now are nothing less than an atrocity. And the new watches don't hardly any different from each other. Rolex -- the Beanie Babies of the watch world. Outrageous.

My AD attended Rolex training in Dallas in November and the topic came up with the corporate trainer and he specifically addressed it and said that it was not being discontinued although production of the BLRO bezel color is why they are less available than the BLNR. He explained that Rolex can produce 4-5x BLNR watches so to try to keep up with demand they produce what's easier. But who really knows right ??
