I just got my grandfathers 1898 Long Lee Enfield on my FAC, after it lay concealed for guessing 100 odd years, and I intend to shoot it, a little, with mild loads. I also got the (presumably) matching 1898 bayonet.

The Brits used the Metford in South Africa not the Enfield

See the rhythm that the shooter was getting up there with the Lee Enfield something you couldn't really do with the Mauser and it's pull back rather than turn bolt action and imagine thousands firing like that with a clip of 10 bullets and you can see why the Germans got the shock of their lives in their first big action with the British army at Mons when they were shot to buggery

Sure you can do it with the Mauser. It really comes down to the shooter first and foremost. It wasn't the Enfield at all that won Mons but the excellent musketry program that the British had established.

Beautiful old rifles.

Mauser fanboys will note that it not necessary to lose your sight picture when you throw the bolt
@windogendoors75662 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand what you are talking about. I don't lose a sight picture when cycling the action of a turn down bolt Mauser. Maybe with a straight bolt handle that would be a problem.

@@windogendoors7566 there are several mauser versions so maybe in some designs

I often hail the brits as being some of the most brutal humans on Earth, being part British I had to pick up a no 1 mk3 and so my Enfield addiction begins
@IrishManJT5 жыл бұрын
Yes. I think the Indian Police / Paramilitary still use the Lee Enfield.

The remington lee rifle was the inspiration for the lee Enfield and metford

The thing is, I get the fascination with historical firearms and high quality modern hunting rifles., and the want to shoot at stuff; targets, game etc. What I don’t understand is the defence of zero background checks, semi-autos etc. The dudes on gear all seem rational, knowledgeable and sane. It’s the hicks from the sticks, open carry, cold dead hand etc. that are a puzzle.

The mas 36 is a 50 year younger design so it's wrong to compare those 2 to each other
