Interesting that they left the slot in the rear of the action for stripper clip feeding, a feature that dates back to the military Enfield.

The US Navy did not produce the 720, but did take all unsold production of the rifles when Remington went over to war production. No 720s were produced after 1942. The first two digits of the rifle's serial number are the year of production. IMHO, the Remington 720 is the most beautiful of all American production sporting rifles. Its Enfield based action allows for very fast follow up shots.
