Yes… it has been a nightmare this week working in the basement 😬But somehow, I handled it better than I thought. Thank you all so much for the kind comments last Monday 🫶 It really has kept me motivated!

Well, the important thing is that we grow and handle things better each time so good for you! 🎉 Also, it's great you keep going even when the frustrating things happen. Go Jordan! 🙂

Having to tear down and rework things is always really disheartening, but you really took it well. You did a great job!

Hey Jordan, as an electrician's apprentice I know what's it's like to make mistakes. I work on roughing houses (wiring them before the drywallers come in) but I have tons of respect for the trim workers. As I have just started in this career it is encouraging to see you struggle yet overcome in all of these trade jobs (you inspire me).

Hey Jordan, my wife and I are loving this series! As a Journeyman Electrician (Canada) I have a tip- @6:05 it looks like you have 2 wires under the same screw on the switch, a better practice is to use a wire nut to join the wires and then "pigtail" 1 wire to the screw terminal. My basement flooded this summer in a rainstorm and I'm learning to drywall as I repair it. Your progress is inspiring!

Thank you! I’ll fix that.

If you're going to do more electrical work, I highly endorse getting a real fishtape. It's so helpful for passing wires through those blind spaces.

That’s tough man, you’ve got this though. Lock in, bite that lip, and get it done.

Sara with the assist! 👏🏻 wow, what a bummer. You handled the nightmare really well though and it was amazing to see the difference in both speed & confidence when you replaced the drywall. 😊

My preferred method is the switch -> switch -> lights as it is the least complicated and electrically safest, so I originally thought your solution was excessive. However, taking into account that you already had wire run switch -> lights -> switch, running a 14/3 between the two switches looks like a more difficult solution than this one because you would have had to run through the same ceiling anyway and also have to fish the wire through the walls to both switches. All that to say, I think you picked the best solution. Also super impressed you taped all the white wires that weren't being used as neutrals. Nice job!

I would have been so totally disheartened by such a setback. I applaud your determination! I have a newfound respect for the 3 way light switches in my house now. Congrats on such a huge achievement!

It's so frustrating to see how some things take sooo long. Like I can't wait until you do the flooring and the walls so it starts looking cozy. But still it's very satisfying to see that the lights work and that it's covered up again. The way you came back to flip on the lights again, just because "it's so cool", is so funny😂

When doing electrical work, I highly advise using wagos over wire nuts. They are much much faster to work with and easier to make changes when needed. Nice job so far Jordan!
@JordanTaylorVideosКүн бұрын
I saw them at the store but the price stopped me. They were SLIGHTLY more expensive than wire nuts 😂
@eflizotteКүн бұрын
@@JordanTaylorVideos you are correct… but, time is money. Especially if you wire something that needs to be changed… they are much faster to work with

Hey, Jordan. While I'm one of the guys who said you couldn't get it done in that amount of time, I did want to let you know that I think you're doing a really good job. I worked in home remodeling for 12 plus years. It can be difficult and time-consuming. I would encourage you in a couple of ways: 1) Use a mobile light to find flaws when you're sanding your mud. Make it cast shadows when light in the room is dim. 2) Remember that mud is like love: it covers a multitude of sins. But paint will show every flaw. I'm rooting for you!

9:14 it looks great! I know the pain of having to take out mistakes, I am currently in the middle or taking out and reknitting various projects to make them fit better. It’s not very enjoyable and definitely not as exciting as starting something new but the finished objects are so much nicer and well worth the time! I think this is another of those things that you will be so glad that you did it properly and how you had planned!👏 The basement Reno has come such a long way!🎉

A bummer that you had to redo but with your skills as they are, you were able to not only recognize the mistake but correct it! That's definitely growth. I relate to the old vs new Jordan...still trying not to have fits if I realize I did something wrong.

What are your thoughts about the port strike and how they postponed it until Jan 15.
@tomb5372Күн бұрын
You really only need the 14/3 wire between all the switches. The cable from the last (or less ideal, first) switch to the light fixture can be just a normal 14/2. And you can just run ONE 14/2 wire between each light fixture. The 2 parallel blue cables between your two light fixtures seem rather strange and completely unnecessary. What's the point of it? Also, NEVER wire the line to the bulb as you're going to hate yourself if you ever want to install a smart switch (plus it may not be code compliant in your area). Line should always be going to the first light switch, and ideally you want to run the 14/2 to all your light fixtures from the last switch.
@JordanTaylorVideosКүн бұрын
All I had left was 14/3 so I used it for everything and just capped off the red where it wasn’t needed. I didn’t want to spend another $30+ on more Romex. Every professional electrician I watched on KZbin said to run two parallel 14/2 cables between each light if you’re going from switch as power to lights and then to switch. Their reasoning made sense, so I would suggest finding those videos and watching them. They were interesting. The sequence that I had to wire it wasn’t ideal obviously, as I said in the video, but it was the only option I had unless I truly wanted to start ripping a lot of stuff out. It works though from following the instructions online, so I’m happy.
