I mean the amount of laws that would be broken in real life that I've seen on a pro wrestling show would take years to list. I mean, how many time in WWE did someone attempt to murder someone using a car or something.

Tony won't be a recurrent character. Of course he will appear from time to time. The elite took him out. What, is he gonna do nothing about it? Of course he will get involved just normal. Danielson got beat up with what punches and kicks ? These guys kick out at 1 after a Tombstone, a few punches and chokes won't do the trick against one of the toughest wrestlers (Danielson). I do admit the Flame thrower was a bit silly but they are outnumbered 4 on 2, you gotta bring something. A flamethrower will do that lol (Remember when Triple H did that to Kane and everyone liked it?)

Late to the party, but I listen to Jim Cornette's podcast and while I don't agree with everything he says (I mean, look at what Smoky Mountain was in the 90s - very regional and only for a certain type of wrestling fan in a certain area of the US), he's right about how ridiculous AEW is. WWE has been that way a lot in the past, too. I grew up on Stampede Wrestling and some NWA/WCW and WWF during the periods when they were going for some semblance of realism. For me, the Bret Hart/Steve Austin I Quit Match from Wrestlemania 13 is one of the best matches I've ever seen. Those guys looked and acted like they wanted to destroy each other legitimately and everything they did made sense. I don't mind a bit of levity and comedy in wrestling, as long as it makes sense to the characters and the storyline, but a guy bringing out a flamethrower makes ECW in the mid 90s look sane. I liked some of what ECW did, but they went way overboard with the violence and AEW seems to have taken all the worst elements of ECW and WCW and thrown them together. You can see the wrestling Tony Khan grew up with. I'm hearing WB Discovery may not make AEW a deal at all, let alone a bad one and I understand why. MJF showed up at the PPV, cut a great promo and ruined it by tattooing AEW on his calf. He's a great promo, but he's not very smart. He can get so much more exposure and money in WWE right now. Instead, he'd rather waste away with this bad booking. Who is he working with when he's back? Swerve? They've got all of these indy guys who want to get themselves kicked off TNT. They're already in trouble for the profanity.

Random question.. Why "carry over to next week" when this is building to a match in 3 days and Danielson is really only part of the match due to his relationship with Tony? I get the whole "build the angle" but tonight was it. There's no next week. If Danielson is a part of this going forward, I'd be shocked. It's the go home Dynamite aka the AEW TV show that actually matters before Double or Nothing. Booking it so it resolves next week is just ridiculous. It HAS to resolve in 3 days or they're wasting time. (Also.. saying the EVP trigger isn't very effective when the collision here is shin pad to shin pad, not two shin pads to the head of someone with a history of concussions..)

I didn't watch because was watching the panthers game, however I don't understand Darby Allin period. He jumps of bridges for a promo. He jumps of a ladder and breaks his leg and cancels his climb to Mt Everest. He got hit by a bus in NYC and now he's out with a flamethrower? He certainly is an enigma.

To bring up Tony Khan as a on air personality. What he doesn’t have that Heyman, Vince and Bischoff had is personality and charisma. Vince and Bischoff were both announcers so they honed there speaking skills there and both looked and acted like the stereotype swarm, prick boss you wanted to see get beat up. Heyman (who didn’t appear on camera often he he started running ECW) had pure passion when he cut promos in ECW. Tony has none of that. He’s bug eyes, socially awkward and painful to listen to. Like with the EVPs, Khan isn’t talented enough to pull the on screen character off. He needs to stop booking the damn thing and hire wrestlers with experience to run everything and just the checks.

Hilarious then that for the first two years of AEW and the two years before AEW, 98% of the wrestling world called them a top 3 best tag team in the world and begged for them to face the Hardys in WWE. Now that it's the company you don't like, it's the same bullshit argument "walking sexual harassment lawsuit" Vinnie Mac decried for years. Let me guess.. Vince is innocent and all women are liars? I mean, those are usually the beliefs of guys who play the size card bs every single wrestling angle. No one called foul when the Bucks had a 5 star ladder match with the Lucha Bros. or stole the tag team crown vs Hangman and Omega (which they won, just saying). I mean, it smells like hypocritical, fickle horseshit. I'm just trying to figure out if you're someone who knows anything about wrestling or just leaves your mouth open until that stench perforates even the atmosphere on the comments sections you reside.

They're making Darby Allin. The man is not really polarizing, or has the size or the look...but the guy is loyal to the core & bleeds AEW. I actually thought the flamethrower was a cool spot. I understand what you mean, because it's something a heel would do. But people would only take it that way in let's say, 1994. Not in 2024; things are different.
@NotTheHockeyGuy

Wrestling needs to be somewhat grounded in reality. A flamethrower brandished as if one might use it is not realistic. Darby would be headed to prison for years if he actually used it. It pulls the viewer out of the moment. They've had Darby in main events for the last five years. If he hasn't been made by now, how will fighting the Bucks make him the go to main event guy?

“Who is being made into a bigger star?” Within the EVP angle? At the moment it’s all about establishing them as the top heel group. Say what you want about the Bucks, but Jack Perry is definitely viewed in a more positive light than he was a year ago. And at the same time, they’ve continued to establish Okada as a heel on weekly television. And doing a great job at it IMO. I think the upcoming PPV card showcases a lot of talent that they’ve either introduced or elevated over the past year or less. That said, to each their own. This didn’t do it for you, while for me the WWE isn’t hitting at all. That’s the beauty of options!

Wrestlers using items/weapons that would get them jail time is not new in wrestling. Sledgehammers, railroad spikes, spiked baseball bats, nailed boards of wood. None of these weapons are realistic in wrestling because when did you ever see HHH use the sledge to crack a skull? Break a leg? Never. But the weapons are there for the visual intensity of you watching that person with it. First time I saw HHH with the sledge and he just put his hand on top of it to go for a gut blow, it took the aura of that object away for me. AEW has a lot of issues and I want them to improve. But I don't want them to be WWE 2.0 and play everything by the book. Experimenting is fine and it can be really fun.

Because the same shit WWE spoon feeds one audience doesn't even work in their own company across multiple crowds, let alone across company lines. The same people don't tune into AEW as WWE and they're not drawing the WWE also rans, hanger ons, or lapsed fans. So why not do something different? Hell, Shannon also talks NHL on here, and let's be blunt. That league could DOUBLE their audience and most Americans (and fewer Canadians, because they're all jaded, bitter, and agnostic towards the sport) still wouldn't give a damn. It's not football. Not basketball. It's barely even baseball. And WWE can bray about 70k fans a night for two nights, but the NFL runs 2 times that every week of their ENTIRE season. If AEW has 5 years of TV (less than, actually) and numbers are still basement in wrestling, even for the so-called big leagues, why keep running the tried and true? Tried and true lead to 83 weeks for WCW and if Eric Bischoff is still chomping that bit, you know that different can be a damn good thing. Let's face it. You're every single WWE fan that watches women wrestle or people you don't really like or connect with. Then you see your heroes, guys who left. And you want them to succeed, but only by being the same person you watched when you were dumb enough to believe in shit like magic and had hope. Now? Now you're an adult with a crappy life and your only joy is some scripted thing where your heroes DON'T let you escape. They force you to acknowledge that life isn't roses and chocolate. It's hard, and sometimes it sucks. And your escapism from that (frankly, depressing just to imagine let alone write about) is being affected by these people you now hate. Why? Because you NEED escapism? Because you NEED the "magic of pro wrestling"? Nah. What YOU NEED is to tighten your belt. Make sacrifices maybe. Focus. Bust your ass. And make your own life better, instead of relying on scripted entertainment to make you feel better that you're just not more successful. And FUCK can that apply to 95% of wrestling fans. It was a harsh promo, but the more I live, the more I realize.. Vince was RIGHT. Life sucks, then you die. Tldr? I changed. You won't.

It's been much better with HHH in charge. The storylines make sense and there's an actual payoff to most of the feuds now. I think it's better now than it has been in a very long time.
