headcanon: marco secretly has powers and absolutely hates them (being able to hear a whisper on a different floor must mean normal sounds are excrutiatingly loud). he pushes his peers away, even having normal conversations can be overwhelming, but he can't tell them about his power. he just wants to be a normal student, and even if he did tell them, it wouldn't change much. he bullies xray-boy because xray-boy thinks he carries such a burden because "boo hooo girls don't like me and teachers think i cheat, people only like me for my superpowers" while marco has to deal with his super-sensitive hearing and people thinking of him as a worthless bully. hearing xray-boy's friends(?) suggest he use his powers against him and xray-boy prancing about because "oh i am such a saint, i shant use my power for evil!" fuels this hatred, driving him to believe nobody would ever care about him because they all fawn over the goody two shoes xray-boy. he directs all of his pent-up rage towards him. he steals from the school because he knows xray-boy would try to be the hero and when the night came, marco attacked. but when he heard the police sirens, he realized the extent of what he was doing and tried to escape, but as he went to the door, it was locked. panicked, he ran to the other door, but it was too late. he already heard xray-boy locking it. he was trapped and helpless as he heard the police get closer and closer. humiliated and filled with spite, he was arrested. now his family, peers, everyone thinks of him as a criminal. xray-boy's problems magically disappear and he is loved by everyone, while marco is left, forgotten and hated. -man i should write some animated story fanfiction, i lowkey wanna give marco a happy ending-

Most "x-ray vision" stuff to me sound more like "4D vision" in 3D space. You know how you can see everything on a piece of paper, as long as you're watching it from enough distance (and it isn't crumpled)? That's basically this but one dimension lower, 3D vision in 2D space. From a 4D perspective, you are able to see everything in 3D space all at the same time. If you zoom in or out, you'll see a smaller or larger volume, but you'll still see everything at once. Even though it isn't an exact match with how "x-ray vision" is often portrayed, it is a lot more "realistic" (using that term REALLY loosely here) and less deadly. Also, if you had x-ray vision, you most likely wouldn't notice a thing unless you were also actively radiating x-rays, at which point you have another problem to deal with...

X-Ray vision isn't that usefull though? I mean, there are barely any x-ray rays on earth, as most are blocked by the upper atmosphere. Top it off, if you stare at x-rays too long you'll get cancer, so you can only use it sparingly (you can't use your gift in medicine, for example, without risking it). You can view at bones, sure, but is that really that useful? You'll have to carry around an x-ray producing device if you want to use it for spying or stuff, but that's probably very heavy. I can see some uses for either IR or UV vision, which a lot of animals have, but x-ray seems too inconvenient.

the way you instantly notice this story is fake is that dude saying he could see his father's brain and then saying he can see other's bones, or through clothes. the scientist's would've noticed that that isn't an xray vision since x-rays can't show any tissue, you see bones and that's about it. you can't control how far you can send them or stop at a certain layer. that's just not how it works and it aggravates me that they couldn't even google x-rays and pretend to have put some effort into it.

Also, X-ray vision doesn't mean the eyes produce x-rays, it means the eyes can receive and the brain can interpret X-ray as visual stimuli. In other words, he's blind 90% of the time.

As an EMT, you can't take a contaminated being to the hospital, because you contaminate that as well... So you have to give the hospital and the EMS crew plenty of forewarning. If you ever ingest/touch known chemicals, call poison control (including meds) and for unknown chemicals call 911 and rinse it off with copious amounts of water (but contain the runoff, can't just let that stuff get everywhere) do not try to neutralize it. But um... other than that, the whole story is super realistic

Can we talk about how "X-ray vision" actually never means X-ray vision? Like, it's always "oh they can see through stuff whenever they want." And never "they can see through soft tissue but not bones and such" Like, different things are used. X-rays are used to take pictures of bones, but for the brain, they use MRI. For the digestive tract or circulatory systems they use small amounts of beta radiation through pills or injections, due to it being detectable through skin (unlike alpha which is higly ionising) nd not lasting too long (like gamma) to minimise risk. I get they want a name for it, but how about "selective visibility", because you select what you want to and don't want to see through? Also x-rays are ionising in large amounts. Like one or two xrays won't kill you but constant exposure will so "xray vision" sounds really dangerous.
