100% a good company won’t try to sell EVERYTHING to EVERYONE. They’re quality, so them know they’ll sell plenty without angering a customer that will likely come back for a future build. Especially for an atlas - they can’t keep up as is so they don’t need to incorrectly jam you with one
@jojo888984 ай бұрын
@@DirtLifestyle for reference, I have an Atlas 2spd in my 1998.5 24V quad cab short bed Cummins on 40" Nitto's and 4.10 final drives... talking to Advanced Adapters, they didn't tell me not to, but cautioned against doing any form of front dig. I'm sitting probably at 8500lbs with 40" spare in the bed, front winch, full interior, NV4500, and almost every spare repair part and tool you can imagine in the bed toolbox. For traction.. factory rear limited slip and Yukon front Ziplocker, steering is PSC 6bolt steering box (so no hydro assist). For power delivery and torque loading of the driveline it probably helps that I Ppumped the 24V and have the fueling turned way down, and only a mid-sized turbo.. I rarely hit 20psi on the drive to the trailhead and almost never hit more than 10psi offroad, and usually drive sub-2000rpm.

Always a good sunday night when you post a video, just a trick for taping straight, you could have left your case on your press drill table, put the tap in the chuck put your press drill on neutral and turn the chuck by hand to start the taping process and then finish it with a tap holder . That is how I do it at work. Sorry for the bad english, following you from french speaking Québec. Keep up your good work.

When doing 2:1 put the 205 in low and not the doubler box in front of it. It’s stronger that way. If the range box is in low and the 205 is in high you have a chance of breaking the intermediate shaft. If both are in low or just the 205 is in low that risk is mitigated.

@15:40 couldn't agree more about transfer case being a good start....just make sure you let the RTV cure before filling with oil and don't over do the RTV. It took me 4 years to find a driveline vibration. Turns out filling oil right away after sealing the case and putting too much RTV where it seeps out into the case is a bad idea. When I drained the fluid eventually, it was extra thick and chunky with RTV

I’m pretty sure that tab on the 205 that’s hitting the floor is an attachment point. It had a bracket and bushing that went to the frame when it was bolted behind a c6 transmission. Due to the weight of the transfer case and not wanting it all to be supported by just the transmission. Are you planning on doing the same? Especially with the added torque of the Cummins.

Got through the first 9 minutes for the axle. I just finished putting 4.88 gears in my YJ 2.5L (yes small engine whatever). The rear D35 is broke the copper line and ordered a new seal hosing, tapped the axle, backlash and pinion depth like 22 times in and out cuz i honestly didn’t know what i was doing. Regardless it went in perfectly and everything was good. Front D30…… such a friggin pain with all the extra shims and oil stopping shim discs and crush flimsy shim disc then Yukon didn’t send the right oil seal so i had to go to AutoZone. Holy crap…. Now that it’s done I’m happy but doing so this WITHOUT taking out the axles and working under the jeep….. Never again. I would definitely do it again better in the future. Also, front backlash and opinion depth are complete garbage but after my shakedown drive and offroad stuff if i break something it’s fine I’ll just fix it, weld it, truss it, etc…

The 80+ J-Truck cabs actually had more clearance on that side of the floor as AMC switched to a driver drop front axle in 1980. So you are basically needing to do the same thing the factory did.

I would check that the input of that doubler is long enough to get into that rear seal of the transmission so you don't loose your transmission fluid out the rear seal.

10:04 I can’t believe Advance Adapters said, “Please don’t use our case.” I would think with all the rock bouncers and KOH type rigs out there running Atlas cases that this would be a non issue.
@JD-ub5ic4 ай бұрын
I imagine the vibration is a big part of it, rather than simply torque. That cummins rattles so much it shakes the 5th gear out of the transmission if you ever dare to use 5th while towing. Not a problem when used with a gas engine. Also like Nate said I imagine a 1,000 HP gasser STILL doesn't make close to 400 ft lb at 1800 RPM like a stock cummins does, and noone keeps those engines stock.
@DirtLifestyle4 ай бұрын
This engine makes 420 ft lbs at 1600 rpm stock. And with very few mods sub 600 ft lbs under 2000 rpm is common. There is no rock bouncer or ultra 4 car that can apply that much force to it parts at such an insanely low rpm! You go from idle to peak torque in only 800 rpm... it's wild! But the big issue is most of your parts have just begun to move at those rpms. It's way easier on parts to apply peak torque at 5500- 6500rpm (like a rock bouncer) because everything is already moving pretty fast. Plus this thing is going to be alot heavier than a race truck. I love the atlas case and I even have an atlas 4 speed ready to go back in my tj. But the tech I spoke to on the phone sounded very knowledgeable. I trust his judgment and totally agree with his conclusions. The 205 is super beef 💪

If you want to make some tools for the calculating the carrier preload, check out Britannica restorations on YT. He got some old bearing races turned down a little so they would slip in and out easy and then you can use a dialgague to calculate the float between the far left to far right and then calculate how much shimming you need for each side. The Landrover Sals axle is a license build Dana60 so they are (af far as I'm aware) identical internally.
