Just time your 0-60. As long as you're still n/a you should be between 7-10 seconds. Timing being off on an n/a would be such a huge hit to your power that you wouldn't even be able to keep up with a semi truck. Hopefully this helps.

This is exactly what turned out to be the problem with my car as well way back. I couldn't figure out what the problem was and tried a variety of solutions but still knew something was wrong. It wouldn't crack 180wtq or 200whp at 16.5psi. and every additional 2degrees of spark timing would only net 0-3whp. Dispite the crowd from Miata turbo .net pressuring me to just keep adding more timing, I knew it wasn't going to fix it. The engine would've blew before it made 200whp at any number of psi. Same exact dyno graph too. Couldn't figure it out until the timing belt finally blew (likely due to being stressed) then when I re did the mechanical timing, holy cow the thing was fking FAST Haha I had to dial it back to 10-11psi wastegate @ 10-12 spark adv. And it made 190tq/205whp no problem. :) Since then car is now on e80 flexfuel with a GT2554R -(Greg's suggestion) Making 285whp at redline. Boost tapers up across the rev range. Maxing out at 15.4psi. timing peaks at high 16's. Straight 218wtq from 3k rpm all the way to 6900rpm. Happy ending Thank you Tcpc

So if there is 1 turn of the crank to 2 of the cams and your at top dead centre of cylinder 1 how do you know when you in the right position of the crank to align your cams? How do you check so that you don't put the engine 180 degrees out?

Backwards, 2 turns of the crank = 1 turn of the cams. If your cam gear timing marks are 180° off, spin the crank a full revolution

Hey Greg, I'm trying to plan my 1994 Miata build, and I was wondering whats the best HP gain you can get from full bolt ons? Not including any kind of turbocharging or supercharging, what HP gains can I expect from a new Intake, Throttlebody, Intake Manifold, Exhaust Headers, and Full Catback Exhaust?
@davidbarlowjr75833 жыл бұрын
To maximize gains id add an afterment ecu to that list.
@jessesan22063 жыл бұрын
Yes, you will need some fuel management once you do those bolt ons. Your engine will run lean and then mess your engine up. Don't ask me how I know...
@jakedougherty60003 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the replies, I do know the ECU needs to be upgraded to manage fuel air ratios, I'm really just looking to see what gains to expect with the bolt ons
@EditsUnlimited3 жыл бұрын
honestly man, I wouldn't waste your time. id do a header, a muffler and a megasquirt tune. that made a massive difference in my car before I went turbo. but even then your talking 140ish hp when a basic turbo kit can easily double your factory horsepower. Im making around 220whp on a stock bottom end and that's pretty safe. BPs are trash motors for making power in stock form. either be happy with low naturally aspirated hp or look into forced induction. hope this helps homie
@jakedougherty60003 жыл бұрын
@@EditsUnlimited Thank you for the reply. I was just looking for a decent gain, I'm not looking to push 200+hp. My biggest things are great handling and reliability, thus why I wanted to stay stock with bolt-ons

The 15g is definitely a step smaller than what he's running, the GT2560R is a great turbo. 1.6L's also take more boost pressure to make the same power as a 1.8L.

@TheCarPassionChannel2 жыл бұрын
It's not the cause of the normal squeal, that's usually a loose or worn alternator belt. A bad pulley can cause a chirping sound from what I've heard on a couple cars. From slipping a tiny bit at a time
