I can identify with the boy. I hate canned corn and will avoid dishes with loose kernels of corn for fear it has that gross canned corn flavor. Few people take the extra step of ringing the kernels before putting inside dishes. Of course it’s possible they shaved the kernels off of the cob, but why take the risk when you know canned is more likely used

The reason many kids dislike foods is a sensory/texture issue - by transforming them (like the mushroom “chips”) you can get kids to try a much wider variety of foods

Once I saw a children’s nutritionist say that instead of saying like “oh you don’t like carrots” it’s more helpful to say “you don’t like carrots this way” “those carrots that way”, I don’t have children so don’t know how it would be, but for me it seemed like a good approach, you know? I mean, even as adults we have our preferences, my brother for example loves raw endives, but is really not a fan when they’re cooked, so it’s not that he doesn’t like endives, it’s that he doesn’t like them in certain ways...

It was a nightmare until he grew out of that. I'm a picky eater myself so I couldn't get too upset about it but some things were like, really buddy? To this day he absolutely hates mushrooms and will not eat them and he's 26 now. Without even seeing me cooking them he could smell them when I was sauteeing them in a pan with other things like onions and spices.

It's really funny how your brain affects your food interests. I remember when I was younger there would be occasional foods that I say I don't like and thus just don't eat it. But if I ate it I'd think it tastes okay or it's good but still force myself not to eat it because I made a statement for myself 😂
@hatorigirl12022 жыл бұрын
It could help to discuss the difference between taste and texture. It took me until adulthood to be able to understand that I like mushroom flavor, I like onion flavor, etc. But I don't like the texture. So now I can eat both so long as the texture isn't there. so now I'm cooking with onions most meals, but I cut them pretty small and they always get soft so there's no vegetal crunch(hated by me) and it's too small to get too slimy.
