@Stephen Gomez I think most kids dislike vegetables just from the way they look, so adding them to other foods and disguising them isn't really a crime, especially if they enjoyed almost every meal
@94cokegirl
@94cokegirl 3 жыл бұрын
@Stephen Gomez I think it was just a mistake telling them at the end that she hid the veggies in their food 😅 there’s nothing wrong with hiding veggies in your kids food to get more healthy options into them, and if they like it and eat it then no harm done! But don’t tell them that you did it until they’re adults and no longer care. Or they’ll be even more distrustful of your food than they were before 🙈 for the spaghetti and zoodles I would have chopped those zoodles into the meatballs instead of where they can be seen more easily with the noodles, added a bit more veg in the sauce maybe or something instead of having it so visibly mixed with pasta that they like.

Once, my brother and his wife were at a dinner party and they served carrot cake, but they called it sugar cake, my picky eater nephew ate it until someone mentioned that it had carrots in it and he pushed it away. At my cake tasting, I told everyone that it was sugar cake and my nephew ate three slices and said it was delicious, and when he was done, I told him it was carrot cake. He glared at me, until I said "you said you liked it a lot!" And he said "you betrayed me, Aunty."

So, my old room mate has a boyfriend with a very, /very/ picky pallet. Mostly lived on red meat and bread. Once he moved in with us, we had to change dinners accordingly, even though we love all sorts of foods. Our #1 go to was spaghetti, blending onions and spinach and all sorts of veggies in a bullet blender to add into the sauce. Came out kinda funny looking if we added too much green stuff, but he ate so many different veggies without even knowing it

the mushroom patties and patties overall are helping a lot! you can sneak anything from mushrooms, tomatoes (fresh or dried), cauliflower, peppers, broccoli...as long as you load it with cheese you should be fine! :D also there are a lot of great recipes for veggie based desserts, i tried a lot of them from beetroot brownies, bean brownies, zucchini brownies, pumpkin brownies and they ´re all a big success! Also if you make blended soups, but leave chunks of meat in them, savory pies or stick some veggies with meat into puff pastry, that should also work :D

A lot of times it's a texture issue so blending something up or chopping it up really fine helps a lot. I've also found that to work for myself for foods that I don't like the taste of but don't completely hate it either - as long as I can't get a forkfull with only the piece of food I dislike and nothing else, it's fine. Cooked carrots on their own? Disgusting. Carrots in a blended soup with onion and garlic? Delicious. Big pieces of mushroom? No thank you. Mushroom bolognese? I'll eat the sauce by the spoonful. It can also help a lot to understand what about a flavor someone doesn't like - if it's just too strong/funky, use less of it and use it as a complement to other flavors rather than the main flavor. If it's too bitter, be very generous with the salt, and also make sure you have plenty of fat, acidity, and sweetness too. If it's too sweet for a savory dish (happens to me with orange veggies like carrots, sweet potato, butternut squash, etc), dress it up to either really amp up the savory (salt, olive oil, cumin, black pepper) or really amp up the sweet (make it into muffins, cake, etc) or use small amounts of it to add sweetness to other dishes

Pro tip with brussels sprouts: don't cook them! If you shred them and leave them raw in the salad, the flavor is so mild the dressing will mask it. I tricked my husband with that a few years ago and now he always wants them in salads.

That might work with adults but for a lot of kids it's just a matter of hesitation and thinking they won't like it, fear of trying something new and that can rarely be overcome by cooking the vegetables properly and seasoning them. They think they won't like it and it's enough for them to not like it no matter the taste.
