Great... My place has the white stuff. Was the damage caused in an area that uses chloramine? Is this a chloramine only issue?

I had to watch other videos to find out that ZURN is an exception to PEX B in that all other PEX B installs differently with restrictive fittings. I don't understand what qualifies the Zurn or any pex as Pex A or Pex B.

So which is which? Is Pex A the blue pipe or the blue pipe?

I'm confused. I just watched a video from another plumbing channel saying Pex A uses the expansion tool and Pex B uses a crimp tool with an insert that reduces the flow. Now this guy is saying they both use the same fittings and the same expansion tool.

The issues seem to be very random, with certain plumbers claiming it's failing everywhere, and other areas where the only failures are due to faulty installation. And most plumbers over 60 claiming nothing is safe except copper.

Is PEX b. Pipe better and what brand you recommend?
@brokenglass849
@brokenglass849 6 күн бұрын
I'm not an expert, but the general consensus is that PEX B is the best way to go. PEX A (Uponor) is not resistant to chloramine which is used to treat water in some states instead of chlorine. The chloramine attacks Uponor adding to the woes already mentioned in this video.

Yup. Just happened to me -SM water district here in OC. Pipe fractured inside to outside. Pinhole pipe leak in hot water line only (so far). .Clear PEX pipe was installed only 11 years ago. It is now brittle beyond belief- rock hard. I really appreciate you posting all this information because it’s really helped me with dealing with the manufacturer. Installer has been great. Just a quick reminder to everybody out there --- you have a 25 year warranty on Uponor!

Dear Sir, THANK YOU!~ at 70 years old I am purchasing my last home that needs a lot of work. A New bath, kitchen and PLUMBING and much, much more. What do you recommend a lifelong DIY'er install in November of 2024? I am not sure I'll be able to (physically) get back into my crawl space, 10 years from now, to undo my failed tubing. Please advise. THANK YOU!

So are these issues present mainly in city water, or has it been present in well water? Because we install this out in the sticks on well water, and havent seemed to have any of these issues. Will definitely look into it more.

wow very useful info thanks, I infrequently run pex A or B because I just never trusted it more because of potential Rodent damage than any thing else. I have made use of pex in homes that are seasonal in cold climates, because from what I understand its less likely to fail due to water freezing, Thankfully most of these homes are on untreated well water, but I can think of at least one that is on treated water. so dam i will have to call that client now, and let them know what is up, Could a carbon pre filter help lessen the danger?

Zurn clearly states that if you use expansion fittings on there Zurn PEX B it can crack the tubing they recommend using crimp rings, just saying. I would recommend using uponor PEX with uponor fittings ONLY.
@Rocket-x9v
@Rocket-x9v 28 күн бұрын
I disagree 100% . Uponor had issues only with the red and blue. The dye is what caused the issues, Uponor now only uses clear tubing now. I have owned a plumbing business for 30 years and have plumbed in million dollars homes with clear uponor PEX and its been over 20 years and never had an issue. I still go back to all these homes swapping out water heaters ECT and my clear uponor PEX still looks brand new and none of the customers had any issues at all with leaks, The yellow you see on the uponor ring is caused ny storing those rings in sun. All my uponor rings on every home i have done ate clear not yellow. If you store uponor pex tubing im sun it will fail over time , its common sense, uponor even tells contractors to store the tubing and rings out if sun, But there are alot of stupid contractors out there who just don't care then they want to blame the manufacturer. All you have to do is throw away the red and blue uponor pex tubing because of the recall but i bet you a million dollars you will have there stupid contractors who will continue to use it untill its all gone instead of throwing it away and buying the You keep showing the red uponor everyone already knows the red and blue had issues so move on, uponor only sells the clear now. Also below is what zurn PEX B states in there manual . It clearly stated that if you use zurn PEX B with expansion it can crack this is coming directly from zurn. READ BELOW. PEX-B pipes are not as elastic as PEX-A pipes, and can develop microcracks when expanding. For this reason, PEX-B pipes typically work best with smaller-diameter insert-style fittings that are secured by a crimp tool.
@Rocket-x9v
@Rocket-x9v 28 күн бұрын
The red and blue had recalls. They no longer make the red and blue. They now only make clear with blue or red lettering. Any pex brand can have issues. Uponor corrected this by doing away with the red and blue, They said the dye compromised the tubing

I've commented before on this guys videos as his misinformation is merely from his geographical area. The problems he is facing are due to Chloramine in the water. Chloramines are different chemically then Free Chlorine - the basis for which each coverts to Chlorine. Our geographical area uses free chloride and we have no problems with any of these pipes unless its on hot water return loop. Each time its on a hot water return it doesn't matter the color of the pipe - we see the same problem repeated. Velocity of pump is not sized according to the specs of Uponor, the return line is 1/2" prior to connection to the heater and often 1/2" in its entirety, the pump runs 24-7. This is part one of the problem - part two is pressure, thermal expansion and temperature. The resolution to this problem is for installer to become familiar with the pipe sizing which is a very easy thing to do using the tool on Uponor website. Then install the appropriate pump - even better use Grundfos with auto-adapt feature. As we see it, the problem is not the pipe rather its the ignorance of the plumbers installing the system. I'm not going to give all the answers away here, but take my advice and read the literature and use the pipe sizing system and install it according to the manufacturers recommendations. Uponor is a solid product when used and installed with their fittings and according to the specifications. I run a small plumbing company and we do hundreds of re-pipes a year, never an issue with any which we have installed and have been using Uponor for over 14 years.

I am a 70 yr old lifetime DIY'er soon to start on my last reno home. Plenty of needed plumbing.. I have been studying and studying every video I can find. I have decided that Pex A, Uponor with their fittings is the way to go. Are you saying that the pump is flowing too much water through the pipes, inadvertently overheating the line? I went to there site but I am unable to access any training.

I don't agree with criticising Uponors marketing materials about Pex-A vs Pex-B, when Zurn is a newcomer to the market, calling their modified Pex-B still as Pex-B. Zurn has created the confusion by having a different product with different specifications and supporting expansion connectors without giving it a new name. Referring to Zurn by name throughout would have been clearer, rather than making false statements about Pex-B that are untrue for every Pex-B on the market except for Zurn. Needs to be re-filmed.

1. Why didn't you say what organization rated you #1 for 18 years? Was it a national organization or your wife? 2. It appears that you have a bone to pick/ax to grind with UPINOR PEX piping. My guess is that you are having to re pipe a lot of the jobs you did over the years using UPINOR PEX piping. You mention all the problems with UPINOR red, blue, and clear. You do not bother to mention or compare all the problems with ZERN piping such as cracking in cold weather, lack of flexibility, and manufacturing defects. You put out one video that mentions this but why not admit that all PEX pipe has problems over the long haul? You failed to mention that mice, rats, and squirrels love to chew on any PEX piping. 3. If you are such a famous re piper, then why don't you re pipe with a product that has withstood the test of time and that has been used for generations with no major problems? I'm talking about type M copper pipe above ground. I'm sure you could argue against copper, but given all the long term problems with any brand PEX that we may not even know about yet , then why would you continue to re pipe with it? .
