Simon from OSD here. A big thanks to Youthman for putting this together. A quick SRT4 tip. The input 1, input 2 and optical can be used to share a single source with any or all zones without the need to group them. If you connected a Bluetooth receiver to input 1 and select this input in the App, friends or guests could stream from their phones, controlling the music selection and volume.

@Jason Finnigan Hi Jason, the SRT1 and SRT4 can be controlled by 232 or 485 but only basic one-way commands are available. Source select, volume, mute, on/off, even play, pause, forward and back. But not, critically, and metadata from the source you have selected. For example you cannot see what is playing, or choose a playlist, or artist or type of music, or radio station. The reason for this is that our platform - LinkPlay - leaves all of that control to the individual content providers, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Tidal etc. When someone selects Spotify in our app, it moves them into the Spotify Connect App and all of the metadata and coding is done from within Spotify. This is done for cost reasons. There are other ways to sense that an out-put is active and then send a trigger to other devices and some of these may be more suited to your situation.

i just got AP850 Wall Speakers, I bought these to replace a set of TIC outdoor speakers. The TICs were great, but one speaker broke. I can’t complain because they served me well for 8 years. I was going to get TICS again but decided to go a different direction. These sound better than the TICs, though it isn’t fair to compare new to 8 year old speakers. As far as these sound, they sound great. They have great “punch”. I can’t imagine the the higher priced brands would perform any better. For the price, these sound great outdoors and provide excellent value.

Hey Michael. Sorry for going back on your vids but a couple questions .. do you have a sound demo of your outside setup ? Im up in wisconsin and im debating on a buried sub vs an above ground sub. Id love a 12in buried aub but not sure how it will hold up in our winter weather. Where the 10in above ground i could disconnect and bring inside for the winter. Thoughts ?
@Youthman2 жыл бұрын
I would think the ground should keep your burial sub from freezing. Mine both are still going strong.0

I'm in the process of having landscaping done, we want to incorporate those 6 inch bullet shaped landscape 70 volt speakers and a couple of in ground subs. Currently I have the 4 conductor number 12 direct burial speaker cable coming from my office through the attic to outside for the pool and patio area. I also have a Crown CH-2 amplifier i bought a few years back that is 2 channels with 70v/100v and 4/8ohm. Will the 12 inch subs run off 70 volt channel 2 or do I connect to the 4/8 ohm Channel out ? If I run 2 subs in parallel then the ohms drop in half. I hope I can run the subs on 70 volt. I also have a bluetooth receiver booster so we can use our phones to connect outside.

Very good video series. Glad to hear you got the results you hoped for. Wish OSD had those subs in stock. I 'd like to do something very similar to what you have in the near future. Thank you for your time! Best OSD information video I've seen yet.

2 years later...any regrets/changes etc? Osd keeping app updated?
@Youthman Жыл бұрын
Definitely no regrets. We use the system whenever we have family gatherings, Easter etc. Recently, my 17yr old daughter had some friends over for her birthday party and rented a giant water slide and had music playing for them while they were having fun. Im not sure there have been many updates to their app. It’s descent but they don’t have the budget of Sonia to make it amazing.

I am curious to know how well the setup for the outdoors is working 2 years later? Are things still solid and working properly? I have seen some negative reviews on some of the OSD product line and before I make such an investment I want to ensure the products hold up. Anything you can share two years later is very helpful to know.

All speakers, amps, subwoofer and streamer are still working as the day I installed them. Their app isn’t amazing. Occasionally it has some quirks, but overall it meets our needs.

@@Youthman Does the app allow you to stream a basic song off of your phone to it, like a Bluetooth connection, or do you have to use one of the included streaming services? I assume if not, you could possibly connect a bluetooth receiver to the amp and somehow get them connected to each zone?

Cool stuff. I'm working on my whole house audio solution too. If those are the only sources for the OSD streamer, it seems like HEOS is more built out. I went with the HEOS Superlink paired with an OSD amp. Working great so far!

This series was a waste of time. I watched a video of watching you dig a hole for sub woofers (no comment on how they sound), listening on how to install a bunch of speakers in a row (why?), etc.. and finally, hoping to get to pay day, how does it actually all sound?! nope. its all about an app on your phone describing the amp system you were given, clearly a paid commercial. You sat in your chair inside describing the sound outside. Really? I guess I need to google other channels to learn about how all this actually sounds. Dropping my subscription.
