I did a research paper in college about children's advertising and one of the things that stood out to me was that no female child in any commercial I saw directed toward children was ever shown in an outdoor setting, in contrast with male children on toy atvs, throwing foam footballs, bug/lizard toys in dirt/grass mounds.

i think the funniest (in a morbid way) thing about Baby Alive is babies under 6 months actually can’t drink water. they’ll literally die edit: okay maybe “literally die” is a bit dramatic but the short version is they have very small stomachs, and require constant feeding. water has no nutrients, so filling their little stomachs with water and not nutritionally dense breast milk/formula can run the risk of a baby being malnourished or suffering from water intoxication- both of which can be fatal

same with cows milk until they are one year old. I dont know if it will kill them but it will make them really sick
@lizamay7225 ай бұрын
Yep. Their body cannot break down the molecules of solid H20, only substances like mother's milk that has water in it but it also has nutrition benefits. We can also die of a water overdose as adults, too. If you're forcefed enough water you'll drown your insides. The water overthrows the sodium levels, and it kills you if you can't get help fast enough.
@Jenn-ie5vf5 ай бұрын
No they won't lol They don't need water but back in the 1950's before central a/c doctors would frequently tell moms to give their baby some water thru the day so they wouldn't become dehydrated and to satisfy any thirst they may have so no, death will not happen

As a child I can't remember once actually playing or taking care of a baby doll. It wasn't a creepy vibe but more of," her hair isn't long, she isn't a fashion doll I don't want it." And the idea of just a needy thing that I can't have fashion high/fight club stuff with. I think this was a staple part of why the idea of having a child/childcare gives me ick Edit: the role-playing bit has changed me entirely. I was a close-minded child

Just adding a little smth to why Baby Alive is popular as a toy from a childs development standpoint! Kids go through a developmental phase of modeling their play off of the lives of adults. Child raising, cooking, cleaning, playing house, playing work or school. This part of development is usually teaching them a lot about empathy, compassion, exploring social aspects of life and moving away from a self centered form of thinking. All of which happens around the ages of 5/6

@sunflowerseeds9195 ай бұрын
@livinlife8299 hi! I think I can answer that :) Children developmentally go thru periods of play where they desire to model their play based on things they see their parents do around the house. Traditionally, this has meant little girls playing house, playing with babies, and playing with cleaning products or toy kitchen. I understand how it comes off as weird, and up until I learned about this I always figured it was more malicious. But kids are learning new things every minute of every day! And modeling the empathy and compassion one needs when caring for a baby helps them be more empathic and compassionate at school with their teachers and friends! (Which is why we should be encouraging little boys to play with dolls and babies more frequently)

Hi, I’m a 15 year old from the UK. I am in the Baby Alive community/fandom. I’ve been in the fandom for 6 years next month. I’m neurodivergent and playing with dolls and toys helps me relax. The community is pretty big on tiktok. 4:20 The video you showed here is actually from one of the most well known people in the community. The reason she says “attempt” is because the dolls have a plastic tube for the food to go through. Due to the old age of the doll the plastic can shatter causing the food to get stuck inside the doll. 6:04 The reason she doesn’t show the inside of the nappy / diaper is because the video may get flagged as inappropriate. 10:02 The doll shown here is known as the “2006 soft face doll” by collectors. This doll is pretty pricey now. I managed to get mine for £25 on an eBay bid. 10:40 The dolls shown on the screen here are all from different eras of the dolls release. Only one on the screen is actually from the 2000s. 11:01 The doll shown here is actually a second release of the wets n wiggles from 2011. The first release is shown here(11:19). 12:42 This video is actually directed at children, the woman is in the video is actually playing with her child. I know this because I watched her when I was little. The doll shown here 13:55 was a summer 2023 release. She doesn’t require batteries. She actually just has a plastic tube like I previously mentioned. 15:37 This doll here is a summer 2022 release. The chunk of “food” you gave her was too big. The dolls who eat “Play-doh” have a larger rectangular tube the play-doh has to pass through. 16:23 The drop in quality you mentioned here is actually exactly how the community feels. Most of the people my age agree that the dolls have dropped in quality and the older models are better. 17:20 During 2017-the modern day the dolls actually had marketing towards boys as shown here 17:49 the “Daddy” feature is a feature that has the doll day “dad” instead of “mom/mum”. 18:22 This is true. I clean my dolls with fresh water whenever I use them. 19:39 This is my favourite part of the video! As previously mentioned, Fun with Baby Alive has always been a big of the community. The commentary is actually pretty common in Baby Alive feeding videos. This is so the video doesn’t get boring for the audience. 19:53 Kelli Maple is also a very well known person in the Baby Alive Community. As you said, the reason the community loves her is because she isn’t afraid to be herself. 20:13 The video here is actually what got me into Baby Alive dolls. Emma is a very iconic and many collectors even have a doll named after her. Kelli actually inspired my content and many other peoples. Before I finish this comment, I would like to say, please be respectful in the replies. Thank You for making a video on a community and topic which are rarely mentioned. Goodbye.

I used to have one as a kid, it was themed around medical care, and that you were supposed to play doctor with the kid I lost it and then I cried to my parents until they got me an exact duplicate of it. I have no idea why I was so enamored with those dolls specifically because I hated normal ones. I don’t have it anymore but I somehow still have the feeding spoon it came with that mimicked scooping out of a plastic bowl. Also, can we talk about the fact that Baby Alive ACTIVELY encourages the kids to buy spare food and diapers for the dolls? Like yeah it makes sense, it’s to refill the main function of the toy and teaches kids that you need to buy needs for a child but at the same time it’s so dystopian to me

My Mom made me throw mine out after two weeks and it was full of mold. Also those food refills packets were SO expensive even if it didn't mold I wouldn't have been able to afford the refills to actually play with it.

I had the first early 2000s Baby Alive when I was little. She had soft/squishy skin, but was pretty heavy. I liked the doll, but found it hard to carry around. I know my parents only let me do the food/water a couple times because of the mess.

11:19 I remember wanting these so badly, there are barely any male dolls 💀😭 KELLI MAPLE IS MY CHILDHOOD AND I STILL WATCH HER AAAA!! This is why I love Baby Alives and want to make vids of them in a “daycare”! This made me really comfortable to play with them more and the humor is hilarious!

The baby alive getting catfished and (nearly) kidnapped is strangely relatable? My barbies had some literal human trafficking I have no idea where I would've gotten the idea from other than being in the room with CNN on but not even watching it. Kids are weird they just absorb wild shit and put in to wacky context for no reason. GI Joe was the only Ken doll for years twas the worst and the best of times

Watching Kelli Maple was a staple in my younger years. Seeing her referenced in an Andy King video truly made my day

Great job with this video! I really appreciate your commitment to executing the multiple segments and researching the lore. It definitely feels like it takes a lot more effort than reacting to Jon Taffer yelling (which is also great) so I appreciate that this style of video is more rare. I especially appreciate you dipping into other channel formats. It helps ground your content as media criticism, making it make total sense in the context of everything else on your channel.

When I was a kid we had that weird ass wet and wiggles doll. I fed it and then gave it to my cousin (who was babysitting me) when it was screaming so it would piss on her. Definitely in my top 10 childhood memories
