Costa Rican here! It’s actually sad bc these digital nomads have displaced locals and increased rent prices incredibly. Locals are very upset due to the gentrification going on these areas, and it has actually become more expensive for Costa Ricans to visit coastal towns than to just travel to another country.

This is the way of the world moving forward especially for countries that don’t have other industries to rely on and tourism makes a good majority of their money. As a digital nomad myself I know for a fact majority of us do not displace you all. We come there working and making money from companies in the USA working remotely and import our money and spend it locally. Is it slightly more expensive sure. But the amount of jobs Costa Ricans would lose and the amount of companies that would have to permanently close their doors if we weren’t there is also substantial.

there's nothing wrong with where you are now. It's real life and a lot of people are in a similar situation. But if your heart's calling for a change, listen to it. Start small, and take a step when you're ready. Your 'one day' could be closer than you think.

There're cheap options of course! But it's very expensive in general (my opinion!). The best way to find out is to visit there and experience it for yourself :)

It's more expensive than most of Asia which has multiple major digital nomad destinations, Its more than Mexico on average in most places within Mexico. Costa Rica is much more expensive when compared to other DIGITAL NOMAD capitals and that is their point.
