I love Factorio in that thousands of flying drones carrying barrels is more efficient than water pipes.

It definitely is more effecient than water pipes. Pipes can only move a fixed amount of fluid through them at a time. Robots.. go brrr

You could use train wagons at the edge of the logistics area with filter inserters to transfer high amount of goods between logistic systems
