I was a motor cop for 15 years in the US. When I was a lieutenant, I had a line of police bikes from all over the world in my office. One day a man and his so walked by and the man was pointing to them, so I wasn't out to greet them. He had been a motor officer in Kennemerland in the Netherlands so I gave him one of our Traffic Division polo shirts. A few weeks later the son arrived and dropped off a collection of Dutch Police items including a baseball cap, tie, and tie bar. It was great to see you getting to experience some of their training. The instructors were great representatives of the Dutch Police. I'm glad I discovered your channel with this video! Best wishes from Delaware, USA! 🇺🇸🏍

First day out with my license I went too hot into the turn and braked and stood the bike up and went into oncoming traffic but got lucky. Ever since then I’ve always put a high value on advanced rider training, defensive riding techniques (which doesn’t mean slow, quite the opposite in fact), and regularly practiced braking at various speeds, lean angles, and different bends (parabolic increasing curves are my favourite), emergency braking, and trail braking. I still watch and analyze crashes to see how I could have prevented them, try to learn new techniques, and try and hone low speed maneuvers. Never stop learning. It always pays off. My advanced training and constant focus on learning has saved my life 3 times that I know of.

Hi Frederik, just curious, do you happen to know why the police bmw r1250rt has the (wunderlich?) throttle lock? I mean do the police RTs do not have the factory cruise control? Or is it to keep the revs up when the bike is stationary? Again just, I am just curious and perhaps you know this.
@frederikadam6183
@frederikadam6183 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Noud, for the exact reason why you would have to ask the person driving it. But I do have an idea. Every city orders it's own specifications on the bikes. It does happen a lot that the cruise control is not ordered because there are too many other buttons to be installed (and for the price as well). Also the bikes being offered to the police zones are pretty much standard. Like I said, the police force orders the specifications needed themselves. That wunderlich throttle lock can be convenient to practise figure-8 moves, very slow speed maneuvers ,... to keep the revs up. I saw as well that the bike had a non standard throttle lock ;) :p

@@fprintf I pull wheelies on my R1250GSA to help get over obstacles. In certain situations you just need to get the front wheel in the air to keep the skid plate from hanging up. Not something that you should ever need on the street, most of the dirt riding skill set is like that, though. There isn't a lot of cross over skills from dirt to street, but learning how to keep a bike up when it's sliding around can be very helpful.

I used to put on a family day for the motor officers family's could come out to the track to watch and get some ride time as well,,,under some instruction. I went through the same training as the British police riders, and passed. Not to boast too much, I passed my car, motorbike and advanced motorcycle tests first time. It made me a much better rider and on more than once the training saved me from serious accidents.

BRILLIANT!!!! VERY different from my three wekk traing at Staffordfshire Police Training School, England in 1964. The instructor just pulled us to the entrance of the school and said, "If you ignore everyhting *I am going to teach you, remember this, all those bastards out there are trying to kill you.

Itchy Boots, "The weather is also pretty crap" and you can hear the smile in her voice. Bret Tkacs at the end of his videos it says "ride with a smile, Attitude matters". Miss Noraly takes that to the next level. Thank God for Noraly and her amazing attitude.

Amazing! When I was a Chicago policeman we had no two wheel motorcycles. I drove a car, prisoner wagon and rode horseback. I had several motorcycles in my youth. Now I’m a senior citizen...

I just love your enthusiasm, its how I felt 40 years ago, the instructor was brilliant calm and concise. I did an advanced riders course in the UK a long time ago and it was very much like this and it gave me confidence and respect for the machine I was riding. Enjoy 2 wheels it cant be beat.

You are so good Noraly! I had my motorcycle cop training years back and it was awesome too. This episode brings back memories. And very instructional and fun. Your videos should be on Netflix! I haven't watch Netflix since I discovered your video blogs. I'm still binging on season 1 and jumping here and there.

I've got BMW R1200RT bought as one of the dutch ex-police bikes couple of years ago, of course modified to legal non-police road standards. It's a beast, but so comfortable bike! I love the look of it, it's shorter than the normal version and it makes it look even better. It became the 3rd BMW bike in my family :)
