@@1337Swiper Trying to justify corruption by what ancestors did is just stupid. There have been many conflicts in the history of the world where many countries did dispicable things and formed many grudges. We shouldn't need to pay for that. Many people of the current age have done nothing wrong to these countries, heck alot of them are trying to help them through charities and such. So the least they can do is not rob them and try to get their countries politics in order.

Just for the record, Noraly (Itchy Boots) did not report the Constables. One of her viewers from Australia did, without her permission. I know this because I am subscribed to her channel. Down in the comments for the video, the Australian person stated their offense and said they had forwarded the video to the Nigerian embassy in Australia. Other subscribers were not happy about that because Noraly was not finished riding through Nigeria yet. They really upbraided the person for potentially endangering Noraly for the rest of her time in Nigeria. So, it wasn't Noraly that reported the bribery attempt, it was someone else.

Probably only because they got caught on camera by Itchy Boots with her far reaching KZbin channel. I’m guessing that locals without “the cloud” of a KZbin audience probably also don’t get the same justice and normally I would suspect they pay parts of their bribes up to their chief. Doesn’t necessarily have to be the case but mostly that’s how it works when they know or feel they can get away with it.

A drop in the ocean. I worked in Nigeria for many years and learned very fast that the only way to get anything done was with a little 'Dash'. My first experience of passport control on arrival in Lagos was as I handed over my passport and the lady in the booth said "What do you have for me?" She repeated this a few times as I tried to think of what the hell she was talking about. I was tapped on the shoulder by a fellow passenger who whispered "Give her a couple of dollars man." I had no dollars but a £5 note did the trick.

I had watched the attempted extortion as it was viewed by hundreds of thousands of other viewers across the world. It was a shameful attempt on the part of the officers. A few years past, I had personally experienced a similar situation in South Africa, numerous times by different officers. And at that time, I tried to understand the reasons behind the corruption of so many law enforcement officers. And two of the many reasons, stand clearly on top. 1. - Relatively uneducated people are appointed in the police force, primarily as a result of nepotism, and not based on merit. 2. - These officers are not paid a salary that would provide for the basic needs of a family, tempting them to resort to corrupt practices, aided by their law enforcement powers. African governments are not doing enough to remove barriers that promote corruption, perhaps because the leaders are corrupt as well ?

You are a fool if you believe that! They got exposed to millions of viewers and they HAD TO PRETEND that they are doing something. If these guys have any connections to higher bureaucrats they will be back on "the job" in no time. Do you honestly believe that the prosecuting body and everyone in there aren't aware of what's happening with "check points" every few hundred meters harassing travelers? But why am I asking a KIwi rhetorical questions? You got locked by your own totalitarian government! You are to be laughed at! I certainly do!

You're aware it's only cause it's a known person that got extorted? This is a common thing that happens with tourists and such and has been recorded plenty of times before.

That was a classic kangaroo court. I actually think Noraly would not be happy with this type of humiliation.

I've been to Lagos during my days as a sailor. It must have been around 8 years ago. Nigeria was the worst place I've been to with a commercial ship. Our ship was boarded by thiefs, while we stayed at anchor. So called security patrols did not bother to pursuit as the thiefs jumped overboard and ran away with their small (pretty slow) boat. The amount and degree of corruption was insane. Customs, port health, all kinds of authorities were demanding money as a bribery. We were alongside at a governmental oil terminal which was brand new. The previous terminal burnt down completely due to a catastrophic incident, in which several people lost their lives. During the cargo operations we had to discover that safety precautions were basically nonexistent and the people in charge did not learn from previous mishabs. The area was classified as a high risk area and therefore all crew members received financial compensation. Nevertheless none of us ever wanted to return to this place. The youtube clip by this dutch tourist was some kind of click bait and I'm 100% sure that the majority of police officers and other authorities act in similar ways and even worse than seen on this video. I fully agree with the people who say the two officers only got sacked because this case has been brought to the public.

Most probably you are right. But the only way to win a corruption is to make all cases public. I have been working in different African countries for almost 25 years. And I can see, they made a lot of steps to build a more justice society. Let's wish'em all the best.

@@Daniel-zs5kq mayB i didn't read it and mayB i delete my comment tomrrw ir si. I just want you to consider my approach: Sometimes i go to google flights. i then choose a random third world country. without preparation. no joke. i Click on that button. i book... is is so easy. only few ppl are dooing this. now it is like a door to a foreign labyrinth is opened. So i get my Visa, i enter the plane. I don't think about risks. bcs i hve a banking card. i get of the plane. i smoke a cigarette. i go hostel. i take antibiotics. and i convince myself to stay confident and amused, whatever will happen. i then talk to evry person i find. Sooner or later smbd considers to rob me. So i try to be funny. i make a joke for the guy. i don't flinch. i laugh. i am doing it because humans are one family. and most likely nobody will hurt me. Or will hurt you. i accept to loose some belongings if it goes wrong. i overcome those situations. and i make some friends. i spread joy. i become a bridge. You guys would become bridges too, if you leave your cargo vessel.

Must have investigated the both of them beyond what is in the video. Having said that, I faced disciplinary proceedings in the army for being a driver, toting around 2 army buddies while they got drunk and beat up a few people. I should have controlled it, frankly, I agreed after the fact. They might be seeing it the same way here.
