dont sweat it that sounded like a terrible interview process

I get what you mean at the end of the video. I am currently completing a CS degree and I have classmates that spend every day coding for fun. Like building classic projects and learning new skills. Not particularly building anything useful just learning more about coding. I have zero desire to do that. I want to be a business owner and entrepreneur. I love coming up with ideas and trying to build something useful. Coding is a way for me to do that.

i agree bro. i feel exactly the same

That part about the "would you still enjoy coding if you couldn't build your own thing" is so so true ! Just building your own ideas and having fun coding is just so different from just doing what you're being told in a project that's not really yours in a company and stuff. Probably one of the reason i personally keep coding as a hobby and never really wanted to making in my actual job (so far). Totally relate to that part. Congrats on the 159 users !

thanks bro 🙏🏼 and yeah it’s good to have something like that on the side cause it’ll keep you motivated to keep learning which is huge.

I’m just getting into learning how to code and watching some videos on what to expect in the future and i’m mad for you bro😂. You did better than i could’ve in that situation, Iwould have cussed them out especially someone you just met.

yeah it was tough 😂😂 hopefully you wont have to experience something like that, but let me know if you beat 9 minutes 😂

Big props for being transparent, man. Everybody said already how unprofessional that hiring process was, but you will not need to wait too long until you will need to hire few people quick and might do same hiring mistakes. I have been interviewing a lot of people and sometimes HR process didn't work well and you (technical person on a team) will end-up interviewing a candidate that was clearly far from needed skill set. The company I work for now can afford me spending time with struggling candidate for an hour, even though I know from first 10 minutes we will not hire the candidate. But a small startup when it has short budget it has to do things quickly. Haha, but again, it will not take long until you will be making video on how you had to cut interview short with a candidate after 9 minutes.

Thanks for sharing your interview experience man. I want to say dude your ideology on how they treat tech interviews i agree with 100%. Take that as motivation mate to build out and double down on your startup and "when" you get to the point of hiring or interviewing make the change you want to see in how devs are hired.

You have the right response to that terrible interview. It's insane how interviewers act sometimes. And you definitely dodged a bullet. Working for that company would be hell.

"Who are these people" is the right question. I just wonder in this chase for bottomline what kind of jerks have companies ended up with. This will eventually bite these companies

Them: "What's your salary expectation?" Me: "I'm flexible on that depending on the budget for the position." 80%-90% of the time they give me the budget for the position and you can pick from there.

Being a self-taught dev as well, I totally relate. One company I interviewed with actually outsourced the technical interview to a 3rd party company which was such a red flag lol. I also never spent time doing Leetcode so once that tech interview jumped straight to a Leetcode hard I was doomed. I was supposed to make it through 3 questions in 1hr and didn't even get through the first. The good news is that not all are bad, the company I work at now had a super practical tech interview where I had to make a frontend UI consume an API and it felt like the easiest thing ever.

yeah that would’ve been brutal 😂 but yeah that’s good to know. that’s definitely much more realistic lol

Also you did dodge a bullet with that company! I'm also self taught, no papers (formal education), etc. I had a situation where I went for an interview (coding test on paper lol) and they looked at me all weird + said I'm asking for too much money with no formal education. I went through the whole interview and tried to leave ASAP; 3 days later ended up getting an offer from a far bigger company and with a much better salary than I asked for. Some interviews/tests I was asked to do during my job search were so pointless I decided to not proceed with certain companies. The interview process is by far the hardest but the company have to also make it good.
@ryanburryy3 ай бұрын
coding on paper 💀 yeah exactly it goes both ways. i’m at the point now if i get another interview and they just jump right into a coding question without giving me any background info on the company i’m gonna just be like “yeah, i’m good” the market is making it so one sided right now so they can pretty much do whatever they want, but at least give me a damn reason to want to work for you.

that shows how they work as a company, so technically you dodged a bullet. Fortunately there are many great companies that don't make hell for themselves and for the people that are interviewing

Fully agree with the interview techniques... Annoys me that companies are asking LC questions which have no relevance for a web dev job. Also I defo have the same problem with interviews - I could do the same problem over and over but when I get asked in an interview it's like they're talking Chinese to me. Going to look into calming my nerves for the next ones.

yeah exactly 😂 definitely one of those things you gotta keep doing until you get comfortable with it

If you have nothing to lose mindset then why are you saying that you were "set up for a failure" or didn't have any number in your mind?
@DilworthJonathon3 ай бұрын
That company sounds unprofessional, you wouldn’t have wanted to work with people like that - different companies use different strategies for interview techniques; it is much nicer to have a take-home assignment yeah. Unfortunately, you can get data structure and algorithm questions, esp. if they are looking for candidates with a CS degree. Well done on maintaining such a healthy mindset in relation to your experience though, it’s easy to let it get to you; and it sucks when you dwell on stuff like that - I bombed a final stage interview with Morgan Stanley (after five initial interviews) & yeah, it was a pretty similar situation; mind goes blank and you’re like, focusing too much on the fact that your mind has gone blank haha. It happens to everyone, just got to get some more practice in! Keep pursuing the passion mate, you’re inspiring other people and it’s great to watch!

Just some constructive criticism. I'm not done with the video, but like wtf was the coding question?? All I got was you had to map over 2 things..
