Except if Columbo had only found the bullet moments before he arrived, how could it have been ballistically confirmed to be from the same gun? He didn't say it _would_ be proven by ballistics to be from the same gun, he said that it _had been_ proven by ballistics to be from the same gun.

I like how Columbo stalls for time while simultaneously annoying the suspect. The look on Milland's face is the same look when he was caught 15 years earlier in Dial M For Murder.

@@SimBir08That is an excellent one as well. Another of my favorites is when he catches the guy who tried to steal the painting from the uncle he killed, only to be caught by Columbo checking the painting for his own fingerprints.

He might have gotten away with it if he hadn't filed that police report a year previously about firing at an intruder but only hitting dirt. Columbo dug up that file as part of his investigation and took the chance that by using a metal detector he might find one of those bullets in the dirt, to compare with the bullet that killed the victim to see if they matched.

I like how, even though he was telling the Sgt he was wrong, Columbo still praises him and his methods. A lessor show would have had a cheap laugh at the Sgt's expense to make the star look good.

I like how gentle, comforting and calm Columbo is when he is confronting an innocent suspect and be at the same time grinding away the killer. In one episode he even said to a suspect that it was impossible for him to be the murderer even when everything looks otherwise and tells him why it is impossible to calm him

Of course after several rewatches new things get noticed. I never realized before that Columbo justifies the dirt on the ground by saying he accidentally knocked the planter over. He just diffuses any initial suspicion that he was up to something until he wants to reveal what he had. If the report was not a match that would have been the end of it. Since it was a match, he explained what he was actually doing. I just glossed over it before watching Milland enter and process that Columbo was there at all.

What lawyers? Columbo only has to catch the killer not convict them in court. The whole scene was light hearted one about the sidekick sergeant being so intimidated by the suspect he fumbled the reading of his rights. A police officer would never do that in the real world.

They went for 60 minutes but they had to condense them to under 10 minutes by taking out unnecessary and repetitive content because the old TVs couldn’t hold anything over 10 minutes. The mondo Columbus shows are very short always less than 10 minutes because of the primitive mondo TVs they had back then. The old old old TVs could not hold more than 10 minutes of show as they used CRT Catholic Ray Tubs technology and non Dylan Mulvaney CLT or Claw Technology. No harm no fowl. They tried Dylan Mulvaney to shorten the shows advertising and tried to produce a non racist TV set with Motorola involvement with flypaper control and Dylan Mulvaney CEO. Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney abandoned by Bud Lights and faced too much bullying and transphobia. The proof is in the pudding. It’s all part of the non racist discovering process
