Toyota’s Hybrid’s may have less horse power in the ICE (internal combustion engine), but the they also have a single speed transmission which, in conjunction with the electric motor, actually makes them faster off the line, than ICE only cars. I have proven this time and time again with the Prius, Hybrid Corollas, and my current Hybrid Camry. There may be a slight higher purchase price, but they also save a fortune on maintenance, brake pads last a long time, oils last longer, despite Scotty’s carry on about the high voltage battery, for people who use these cars on average driving cycles, you SHOULD never have to replace the battery. Fleet and high mileage vehicles MAY require ONE change of Hybrid battery (best to replace the whole thing rather than individual cells) after about 10 years. And finally, Scotty, it’s not the first ever Corolla Hybrid ever made. Maybe the first on sale in America, but in Australia we’ve had them for 6 years.

I own 3 Priuses (Prii) and do all the work myself. I've even repaired the main battery 7 times.Very dependable cars. If you keep them over 10 years, the battery will start to fail. My 2005's modules were failing one after another. So I bought an entire battery from a 2014 Prius for $850 from a junkyard. Runs like a champ now.

Id use the kWh rating instead of the Ah when comparing the battery sizes. The Ah rating doesn't necessarily mean the same between two different batteries if they are different voltages. Whereas the kWh rating accounts for the difference in battery voltages and thus is able to directly compare the energy capacity of various batteries. Helpful tip, i really enjoy your videos

I get around 55-57 mpg. I drive 160 miles a day. About 98% highway. 62mph is the sweet spot on Cruise control. The engine turns off and uses the hybrid mode when it’s level ground or down hill. When not using cruise control you can use the electric motor alone with the engine off up to 70 mph BUT you have to be progressive with the gas pedal. I bought mine in July 2021, I already have 15,000 miles! No regrets. I get about 550 miles per tank. Only has a 10 gallon gas tank.

It's really only comfy in highway driving. I've owned one for a year and a bit now. National roads? Best you only keep lane assist on ( and even then, be prepared to override ). Nice to have when you're on a backed-up road with no way to overtake though.
@azzogathor
@azzogathor 3 жыл бұрын
Before I forget. Even on a highway, overtaking is a PITA. There is no decent range/ distance setting. The radar pilot generally breaks too soon and revs too late when switching lanes. Kinda gets in the way of other, more constant, drivers. Still, pretty comfy to have over long drives compared to nothing at all. Piece of advice: get the 2 litre version. The 1.8 is slooow, especially in highway situations or high-speed overtaking ( 110kmph+).

Yes braking. In our Prius C it seems effective in stop and go driving as the additional braking effect seems to be activating a stronger regeneration charge to the traction battery increasing the charge level. I remember when I read about the "B" position in the manual it didn't really give a clear picture of operation and benefit. Is anyone more familiar with the "B" position?

@@discerningmind Is does increase regenerative braking, also,vat least in some models, run the engine without gas as an air compressor to slow over long downhill stretches.
@fastacker2
@fastacker2 4 жыл бұрын
When descending a long grade, you use "B" mode which tells the Prius to attempt to emulate "engine braking" in a conventional vehicle. Depending on the vehicle's speed and the battery SOC (state of charge), the Prius will do this using regenerative braking and/or high-RPM zero-fuel-flow engine braking. Prevents overheating the brakes.
