@@JamesTravis Just finished driving school and I only got a learner's permit. They told me to just keep practicing then call them if I'm ready for a final road test. If I still fail, then I need to pay for extra sessions which I couldn't afford anymore.

Ozzy Osbourne passed at the 19th attempt, so never give up, you only have to pass once, unless you have to retake it. Also a worrying trend which is growing, people are using non professional instructors.

Failed my 3rd test today. The issue in my era of trying to pass, is the pandemic. My 3 tests have been over 15 months due to the stop start nature of being able to take lessons and huge gaps with test availability. Now my theory expired and you have to go back to square one. I drive fine with my instructor, it's just these examiners need to be nicer and less sturn, given what's riding on a lot of people at the minute. She indirectly said by failing me, i don't think you should drive for 4/5 months. I've never had shaky leg on my clutch control, but knowing that if i failed, it would be 4 months approx before i can get another go, just set's you off and you dnt even expect it. What makes it more painful is that it's something I could easily do, after i pass. Still doesn't make me an unsafe driver. They need to be less harsh in 2021. DVSA are failing us & robbing us blind, they're charging for re-takes of theory tests. All of your videos have been insighful & you're very calming. You'd be a good examiner. 👍

Travis, I’ve been driving since the day I turned 17 and I’m almost 21 now… I’ve done 4 tests and it’s really affecting my confidence 😢 the last test, the examiner said he “enjoyed the drive” but I went through a stop sign on a tight road (with parked cars that obstructed my view) so failed… with NO MINORS😅…. Honestly I’m a safe driver and performance anxiety does get the best of me

It is important to realise a 30 second brain fart on 40 minutes drive is not a true reflection of your driving ability. Mistakes happen. As long as you went into the test at a good standard and you understand your mistake that is the most important thing. Keep confident and keep up the effort.

That's what happened to me at traffic lights I hadn't realised they'd gone to green for a couple of seconds guy behind me beeped his horn that got me a serious for reaction to traffic lights and impeding a road user,month later got the same examiner she remembered me knew I could drive so a 30 minute drive chatting away later I passed she even laughed when I stopped at a notorious stop sign that's caused end of people to fail, i pulled up to the junction stopped took it out of gear applied the handbrake took my feet of the pedals hands off the wheel and said "There I've stopped" 😂😂😂😂

I failed my 2nd test today. First test I failed because a car on the roundabout didn't signal but I could see he was turning off at his first exit so I moved onto the roundabout but as he didn't signal I should have waited until he was completely off of the roundabout. Today I failed for the dumbest thing...I didn't check my right blindspot a single time in the 4 times he asked me to pull over on the left and set off again, today's fail was the most frustrating because I ALWAYS check my blindspot but for some reason today I failed to remember 4 times in a row to check it and just checked my centre and right mirror. It's deflating and frustrating but I'm going to book another one asap and hopefully 3rd time will do it for me, don't give up folks, never give up. I passed on my 5th. I knew my instructor was good. I learned from each test mistake. I did things I had never done on my lessons as in weird nervy things I had never ever swan necked until my 4th test. Left an indicator on. Its expensive but that's also a part of the learning process. I now have a car and i'm scared to get in my car. Got my instructor to come out and she said drive little and often.

Just to add to what Travis said and from personal experience, When taking my test, the thing that I kept telling myself and that comforted me is that, "I can always take the test again, I don't have to pass" you only have to prove to a stranger that you can drive for 40 minutes. Whatever you feels most concerned about with you driving, tell your instructor this and they will get you to do it more and more, for example, I let slip during a lesson that I hated roundabouts, next thing I know I'm going round every roundabout possible. Also, you next to be completed honest with yourself about the weak parts of your driving and also ask your instructor and work on those parts, although your instructor should be working on them anyway. For your test, do NOT tell people that you have your test, if you fail you will have to tell everyone, this will only add to the nerves. nerves effect everyone in different ways, I would say the main thing is the first 5 minutes, get through these without anything major happening and you will settle down. Finally you need a short term memory, if you make a mistake it doesn't necessarily mean that you have failed for example, I also most pulled out onto oncoming traffic during my test, 2 things saved me 1. I stopped before the give way lines 2. I reacted faster than the examiner did. Therefore put the incident to the back of your head and continue on like nothing happened. One reason we put so much pressure on ourselves is that if we fail it will be four to six weeks before we can take it again(which is excellent practice time of course) but you could be thinking oh my goodness it will be July/Aug/September ,specially if you started last year :-( but i can confirm your next test date will come round really soon ,so don't panic or rush ,feel great for the experience and that you have rebooked if you're ready to,and keep practicing keep positive :-)

What do you do if you have no confidence in yourself and feel you’ll never achieve a pass? Took my first test on Monday and failed horrifically. Everything threw me off and I ended up driving like I never have done. I haven’t heard from my instructor and the examiner just made me feel as if I’ll never achieve a pass. I would restart your lessons after a weeks gap. Write down the areas where you got a serious or dangerous fault on and work on them. A month later start taking mock practice tests(one every 3 weeks). Come up with this sort of plan with your instructor leading to your new test.

I've had two failed driving tests, and my third one was scheduled for today. However, the day before my test my instructor told me he couldn't take me because he thinks my confidence is too low. He mentioned that I know what to do, but my nerves get the best of me, leading to issues like rolling back and stalling at junctions and roundabouts. Sometimes, I struggle with making decisions in situations from overthinking. I've been driving for three years and had over 90 hours of lessons, but it's disheartening to feel capable yet not perform as well as I believe I can. Now, I have to retake my theory test. Hello from the States. I have taken *almost* 20 hours of driving lessons. I do not own an car, so I only get to drive from cars rented at my driving school. My instructors say that my driving skills have greatly improved and I usually perform the maneuvers required for my test well. However, I have failed the test twice, already.

I failed my first test yesterday. I got one serious and 5 minors in the first ten minutes and nothing after. It was a serious case of nerves. I've never had a nerves attack like that in my life. I couldn't hold a single limb still. After a few minutes my nerves calmed and I drove nicely. Weirdly, I didn't feel too nervous to begin with. It hit me like a brick after the examiner went through his spiel and I saw my hand shaking as I reached down to start the engine. Up until then, I felt really good. Unfortunately, I failed my driving test today, I feel it was abit harsh I got 1 serious 5 miners but I feel the serious was a miner too, just annoying now I have to wait to get another chance I know I can drive. It does give you a heavy heart, though, especially when you have spent so much time driving. Maybe it just wasn't my time, but I do wish it wasn't so long until I could retake it and get that second chance.

I have anxiety and depression, borderline personality disorder and my short term memory is really bad. I often keep forgetting what I’ve just been told and I panic at roundabouts. I hate it when my driving instructor shouts at me and gets annoyed. It really makes me cry. (Last instructor gave up on me and refused to give me anymore lessons. ) Already spent £1300 on driving lessons….test booked in May. I am going to be absolutely terrified. Hey it’s okay, i have been driving for 1,5 year and i’m still a driver that is not “good enough” yes i improved a lot and especially changing speeds, parking But lots of things an especially the “looking around” and noticing road signs still suck after a long time of driving. i’m basically a danger on the road sometimes and i have been in situations where i almost got in a serious car accident but never got involved with it probably because of luck. But as you read before i got better with driving, parking and got more confident cause i got hope. When i first started to drive literally cars honked at me because how dangerous and dumb i was driving lol. Today i failed my first drivings test but i’ll keep on having hope and I’ll practice, so let’s do this together! Let’s not give up! If you have a car make use of it and drive everyday, doesn’t matter where but get used to everything! I don’t have a car so i can’t do that but if i had i would. I believe that you can do this! One time we will be amazing drivers. Maybe we will still be bad drivers but then without all the dangers haha.

It's very hard when you don't pass, and like you said you don't want to give up. Work on the faults of the test and see if there is reoccurring faults that match from the pervious tests, if there is then these will need to be looked into. Good luck.

Passing is also to do with luck what kind of examiner and route a learner gets I had a rude and arrogant examiner who did not allow me to use my reference points and in the end distracted me by giving me confusing instructions which had clouded my mind and effected my driving standards it’s hard to get test date due to coronavirus and many trying to book tests 😪

First test i failed because my instructor never have put me in the test route i gave up in instructions I have my husband and I did make a mistake I stop in a slip road I took again the test he did failed me for nothing he asked me bay parking parallel parking and forward parking I really don't mind doing all of them but I am nearly 3 years driving I am a very safe drive my friends have passed and they don't now to drive or some of them bumped the car after the test i really don't know what they are seen the examiners should give people who really drive well and safe

Failed my 4th attempt yesterday 😢 My first attempt was in September 2020 and I failed at a junction within the first 15 min of the test. It was covid times so didn't complete the test went back to the centre. I had passed the reverse bay park before that happened. I wasn't ready in my opinion. Because of covid I had minimal lessons after that and my theory test lapsed so had to do it again! Things improved last year, although now it's a much longer wait for a test. 2nd attempt was Nov 22 I had zero minors until the last 15 min did the park on the right maneuver and didn't stop for a car. As well as that serious I got 4 minors after that as I knew I failed. 3rd attempt I got a test one month after the previous one and that helped alot with my confidence. I failed on the reverse bay parking. With zero minors for the rest of the drive. 4th attempt yesterday, 3 months after the last. The examiner was amazing! passed me on my reverse bay park despite it being awful 😂 10 min before the end I went through a filter at the light completely stupid mistake! I was so mad at myself. 1 minor for my parking but an otherwise perfect drive. I have to say everytime I have had amazing examiners they are so lovely and helpful. They have told me my driving is generally good. My parking/maneuvers is 100% the main area I need to work on as I failed twice for this and could've failed yesterday for the same thing. The other is general awareness of what is going on around me as that is what happened yesterday I wasn't fully focused. I am 40 so an old learner hoping it's 5th time lucky. I have improved over each test but mostly not feeling as anxious and being confident but not overly so. Problem is to actually get a test as that's the hardest thing now.

Just failed my second time, I got the same instructor as the first time and I think the nerves got better of me, he said i did everything else perfectly but made a stupid error, trying to turn right from the wrong lane on a narrow two way unmarked street, that was an instant fail, I feel so defeated, but I did book for next week cause I'm stubborn lol, I appreciate your video, I ripped my test up and threw in bin I was so upset 😂

I failed in the first 3 seconds leaving the DVLA park bay into the main car park. No cars or pedestrians around. was edging slowly, indicating, checking mirrors and i could see through the parked car windows adjacent. All of sudden radio is blasting on. i didnt switch it on. i was given a serious for that and failed for not “checking left enough” despite checking. Bloody hell.

Had my fourth test today and I failed again. Im a great driver but anxiety makes me make stupid mistakes every time i have a test. Stupid mistakes like doing the wrong gear and stalling and i never stall in my lessons. Even stupid things like forgetting where my gearstick is 😭. And my neighbour who is only 17 just got theirs and is currently driving their parent's car to school. It doesn't make any sense to me. I practiced for over 20 hours, and I still make mistakes for the test. I don't like people watching me. Getting over the fear is easier said than done. No matter how much I told myself to calm down I just couldn't. I forget everything when I'm nervous. But do well when practicing. I need this license I cannot do public transport or bum rides anymore.

In the same position. Just failed my second. If you want to try and get it sooner take a look at “Driving Scout” online, they find you cancellations and you can set it to manual or auto. Auto means it will automatically book your test the second it finds a cancellation. So you can just sit back and wait for the email telling you you’ve got a new test. Did it where I live and it’s always book up for like 3 months and got a test. But remember to take a break as the cancellation I took may have been too soon hence why I failed again

I failed my second one today. I feel like a failure and too stupid to do something that normal people half my age can do. The first test was easy and I did a silly but serious mistake. The one today was really fricking hard and had me some bad luck too. I should have anticipated the changing situations better so they absolutely were my own fault too, but they stemmed from other people's driving faults that I didn't know how to react to fast enough. I'm so disappointed in myself. So much stress and anxiety and sleeplessness and vomiting out of fear and all for what? Just lost another 600 euros and still didn't pass.

failed test today on first attempt failed on undue hesitation (3 minors) and gears (3 minors) , the undue hesitation i think i can work on its a confidence thing, but with the gears when i change down to go into a tight corner in gear 1 or approach roundabouts by changing down to gear 2 the car jerks idk how to rectify it .

If your car is jerking when changing down to 2nd, either lifting up clutch too quickly causing car to slow faster or changing down to 2nd at a higher speed. I would try lifting the clutch off a lot slower than you would normally do.

hey i would try engine braking as you are breaking slowly lift the clutch but dont change until you are going slow enough i had this same problem until i started engine braking :)

This sounds exactly the same as what I did on my first test. I tried to change gear from fourth to third but instead of third, I got first, so the car jerked.....I got three minors too for undue hesitation. I passed on my third test, (with a female examiner, whereas the other two were with a man).

My tip would be, not to rush your gear changes....be more proactive when going up or down.....it is easy to relax and not pay too much attention but don't, let your heart beat fast, that will keep you alert.... For the undue hesitation, when there is a gap to go, just go for it and hope.....the examiner will get you either way....

It is never too late to learn. So you know I have helped lots of people pass the test in their 50’s upward. So, if it’s disheartening at the moment, take a short break of a couple of weeks. Then remind yourself what happened on your previous tests. Come up with a plan to pass the test. It could be nerves, or just an area of weakness that needs more practice. Or even the thought of the test is making you drive below your normal standards. Good luck

curious that some instructor will say for 2nd time to cancel the test that been booked because the students is not ready yet ?not mentioning that is cost so much per lessons , how does the teaching category ? knowing that an individual has different capability of understanding as the way or style of teaching wise ,is it adapted to the students to be able to understand and grasp?do the instructor do have an evaluation on how to teach the pupils needs?just saying cause some instructor has no plan ,not even talk to his pupil what to do next. seems always same banana , and what is annoying the instruction is more or less " you have to look left and right when the students is driving for national speed ?this end up the pupil neither will steer close to the kerb / or get to the white right line, is a bit dangerous right? or he said change the gear quick, / or get the biting point quick ,or move quick .or ease off , or keep going ? this is sounds like a beezz sound? .....do the student needed to cancel it then or just have a go to get the luck to pass?

I first failed with 2 minors but I went in a bus lane and that was a serious🤦🏾‍♀️. Then yesterday I failed straight away I was a lil late because of traffic and the examiner was rude I didn’t like the way he spoke to me. I was angry and nervous he made me do a bay parking straight away I was in the box but not straight and I failed. He never explained why. My driving instructor was not with me because I used my own car I went with a friend.

A lot would depend on how and where it happens. If you stall at the side of the road when about to move off, it’s a driving fault. If you stall at say a busy roundabout at take a long time to get yourself ready and miss an opportunity to move off and are causing a large tailback of traffic, then that could be a serious.

@@JamesTravis it was at some temporary traffic lights , I was just pulling off and accidentally went into 4th rather than 2nd . Car didn’t stop but was a bit juddery for a second so I put it into second and moved away . At the time I thought it was probably minor but the examiner said it was a fail because “if any cars had been behind me they may have had to slow down “

I would not quit. Whenever I get asked to teach someone who has failed 3, 4, 5 or times I first ask to see their driving test reports to see if there are driving faults that keep coming up on each sheet. Things to work on straight away. Then I ask them if they are failing the driving test towards the end, if this happens you could be tired. That’s just a couple of ideas. But don’t give up.

Hey Travis. I got failed today on my test for undue hesitation at the traffic lights because I didn’t proceed when the light turned yellow (it remained yellow for about 5 seconds) before turning green. I only proceeded once it turned green. I feel like this isn’t right? I’ve been taught for 45 hours now by various instructors and never have I known that I must proceed at a yellow light.

If you were at a pedestrian crossing and it was yellow flashing before green and the crossing was clear, then you proceed, if you don’t at that point the examiner will fail you for not going.

If your instructor works for a franchise company, then you could complain about the words he has used and ask for another instructor. You could complain to the DVSA, but it is your word against his. Best thing is move onto another instructor rather than put up with the words he has been using.

unfortunately for me there isn't a work around for this because I have diagnosed anxiety disorder so this is gonna happen no matter what. I can do it flawlessly in lessons but probably screw everything on the test. for me it'd be a case of getting to a point where I'm just comfortable, I know it'll be fine because I know it. If my instructor could be in the car I know I'll be perfectly fine

I failed yesterday on my 3rd attempt my area has a 43 per cent pass rate, l failed because l was slowing down at junction too early. I am confused now because l feel like l have to speed up to junction now then they will fail me next time for going too fast it's so frustrating 😫

Sorry to hear about your test. Sounds like you were too cautious on approach. Treat every junction that you approach as a different set of problems, some you approach to slow down and stop and some you can see clearly so you slow down enough to go if it’s clear.
