Of course he would have lived. All he had to do was to tell Mike they tricked him, Mike indeed believed Fredo was phenomenally dumb to be held accountable. But he left, like he was indeed fully guilty and when he resufarced he told Mike straight in his face that it was out of ego, bitterness and spite that he did what he did. Therefore, Mike couldnt delude himself that his beloved brothers' actions were merely a result of his pathological idiocy.
