I know why you're scared to move to Indianapolis Indiana! But, should you be? Indianapolis Indiana does not have the best safety reputation across the country. What large city does? Safety and crime is certainly something everyone should have on their mind regardless of where they are moving. I know it's a topic that comes up quite often when I'm talking to people about moving to Indianapolis. Crime of all kinds is concerning but violent crime is the most concerning to a majority. Honestly, crime in Indianapolis is not nearly as widespread as what news outlets make people believe... especially violent crime. I'll have people say the opposite but I'll also have many who will wholeheartedly support what I say. Most cities larger and smaller than Indianapolis have crime. It just comes with living near a large number of people. But should you be scared of Indianapolis? We'll cover that in this video.

Indy resident here: great video, you're completely spot on! I actually used to live just north of this Target. Eagle Creek & Rick's Cafe Boatyard are awesome. I think Indy is a very manageable city: I've lived here for 4 years now. Like ANY city, Indy has both good & bad spots. I go downtown plenty too, and so far I've never had an issue. Pretty sure the vast majority of all violence and crime in Indy is all in relation to drugs and gang areas.

I am moving to US, Indianapolis for 6 months from Europe. Hearing all this shootings, violence, access to guns as long you turn 18... Blows my mind!! 😮 Yes, I am scared... There is no more such a thing as 'American dream'. Sorry to say but US have not the best reputation across Europe from what I've heard 😢 Hope West Indianapolis will be safe as this is where I am going to stay.

Moved to Indy 18 months ago for work. I knew nothing of the area other than don’t live south of I70. Chose Fishers but ended up on the border of Fishers and Castleton. Big mistake!!! All restaurants have terrible service, people changing lanes in construction going 90 miles per hour in less than reliable cars, my car was caught in the middle of a drive by shooting while parked in my apartment’s parking lot. I am excited to move back to the country where people are civil and are not still acting oppressed over historical events that have nothing to do with now.

Folks - Something is going on with my Samsung tablet that caused me to just have the above piece I wrote go unfinished. Sorry. What I was trying to say was "... good memories of riding or driving up and down 38th Street." Many places I went to around 38th Street back in those days. Many of those places: stores of all kinds are gone, naturally but one still shines to me on 38th - the famous Crown Hill Cemetery.

I grew up in Houston, lived there in the 80s and have been living in the Indianapolis area for 17 years now. I live near the nexus of Carmel, Zionsville and Indianapolis and work in the SE part of Indy (University of Indianapolis). I used to drive through northeast Indianapolis to drop off my daughter and then head to work and back again, so I am VERY familiar with Indy, and the northern and southern suburbs. In all those years, I was never once in a situation I felt unsafe, despite driving through the city. My car has been parked at one time or another all over the city. No break ins to my car, no really unsafe encounters other than an occasional (uncommon) person asking for money. Same is true of my family. Yes, I know of a neighbor or two who has had a car broken into, even one stollen. But I think most of my co-workers would give you the same story, few if any incidents. In all my years here, one of my co-workers had her home broken into (SE Indianapolis). I can say I had more than my share of things happen to me in Baltimore, so it isn't just that I live a charmed life. My daughter living in Oakland, CA had nightly gunfire, even a mass shooting. I was a kid in Houston (west side) and at one point our home was repeatedly broken into, that is the only really bad series of things that ever happened to me there. Not sure if this helps, but I think Indianapolis is as safe as any city , maybe more so, in the country. My $0.02.
