RedInterceptor i know this is a 12 month comment but its still worth mentioning One of the devs had an idea for a character who was a ruthless outlaw that used to be in the van der linde gang but then sacrificed himself to save john, trying to redeem himself that turned out to be our beloved arthur morgan and you can see in the 2016 trailer of rdr2, that arthur was talking to sadie (a cutscene in chapter 6) arthur wasn’t sick (he didn’t have the TB model) so no doubt the game had 2 delays making sure that arthur doesn’t survive because ross would’ve made john hunt down arthur (not to mention low honour arthur is canon which means he could’ve gone back for the money and not go with john) so arthur may kill john because if low honour rich and smug arthur meets up with high honour broke and desperate john...well you know what will happen

I know I hate how slow horses are. Rdr2 makes you got at its own pace while RDR1 gives you more freedom of pace. They made horses slower because if the horses were still this fast then the game wouldn't be able to render the environment that good.

During the third encounter with the Strange Man he says, "This is a fine spot." This location later serves as John, Uncle and Abigail's gravesites. Near the end of the encounter John fires 3 bullets at him but before he could fire a 4th his gun jams; it is possible the 3 bullets symbolizes John, Uncle and Abigail dying in "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed" and the 4th jamming is Jack being spared.

If you think about it, the red dead universe isn’t just some generic Wild West story driven game about outlaws fighting and running from the law. If you do more exploring and searching, you can find ghosts (mainly at lemoyne), secrets like the strange man, mutilated bodies and mutant animal, murder mystery, secrets about that abandoned town in lemoyne (it was abandoned or shot up because of religious matters I think) and so much more. This game is basically also a horror game and mystery game if you do these exploring.

moreo than that, RDR 1 was specifically written to subvert most tropes common to westerns, like John isnt some stoic enigma of a character, the real 'duel' you have with Bill ends with John shot, tough female characters like Bonnie exist, and the western era as we know it was coming to a fast end in 1911, meaning that the modernization of Blackwater could visually and thematically play alongside the story. by the time you get to blackwater, you understand that John is a product of a world that no longer exists.

I hear a lot of people say that the "important people" john has forgotten are Arthur and the rest of the gang. This is certainly not the case, John doesn't talk about Arthur for obvious prequel related reasons. But it goes deeper than that, every action John takes is influenced by Arthur. John even behaves and has some of the same mannerisms and ideals that Arthur had. I think the people the strange man is referring to are all the people who John has killed and all of the people who were negatively effected by the gang. People like Hattie McCourt. This side quest has less to do with John's apparent memory loss and more about discussing weather or not John can achieve redemption for what he has done.

This is why I love Rockstar. Most games would just eventually come out and say, “Oh, this character is an Alien” or some stupid cliche like that but Rockstar has always been amazing at leaving the story to the players to find. Look at Pleasance, the Mt. Chiliad UFO, Gavin, and the best of them all, Strange Man. Something about Strange Man is just different. He is a mystery and he is never really explained. They don’t even try to make sense of it by the end once he is literally shot three times and shown to be unaffected. Then in Red Dead Redemption 2 they add his shack which makes his place in the world seem even more eerie. Something about him just makes me feel uneasy. I think the strange man simply represents John’s soul. His hard to identify nature hints that the duality of the players actions. He knows things about John’s past that John can’t remember because John suppressed a lot of his past and when he says “I hope my boy turns out just like you” he could be referring to Jack who in fact, does turn out exactly like John.

I still can't get over how well written this game was for a sandbox game. Personally I'd say it's one of the best Rockstar open world games. It has the same gameplay, actual side content, a setting that isn't used often, and a well written story. I may as well say it's probably my favourite open world cause even the multiplayer was the shit. It's basically GTA4's multiplayer done better. Definately was game of the year for me.

The antichrist would be Satan's son and surely he would want him to be like John since he's a ruthless killer. Also when you kill the strange man and look in his pockets he has six dollars and six bullets. Adding another six of something would have been too obvious but since you know everything in a game is consciously put there by the programmers, it's pretty hard to ignore. I also saw someone else point out that a lot of old time depictions of the devil have him wearing a top hat and a fancy suit with a mustache. This is true as far as I've seen. The only thing that makes me think twice about him being the devil is when he says that many people have damned him. You don't really hear people damning the devil unless he's referring to people generally rejecting him because he's the devil. That line definitely makes it sound like it's supposed to be God. Anyway Rockstar probably made it this way on purpose so nobody would ever know for sure who it's supposed to be.
