Reason why India has Pikachu is because we were never able to watch the whole series. Here, the dubbed telecast ended around 10-12 seasons while we had no way to watch it any further. Hence we resorted to Pikachu as one of the only Pokemon we know. (I may be a bit wrong here as not everyone overcame the problem but the majority didn't)
