You need to check with the Japanese Embassy if they will allow you to travel with temporary passport. Temp passport is issued to travel back to home country and not for general travel.

Ravish, your storytelling was amazing it revolved around a famous quote. It was a tragic situation though, we really enjoyed it. Actually according to govt dept SOP, they’re required to scan the original doc, in order to validate it and laminated doc can’t be scanned! I have my kids B.certs in a laminated bag having one side open. So I can slide it out when needed for scanning.

I made same mistake with my son’s study permit when he visited India. I got it laminated. And they refused him to enter Victoria as a student. So he had to get it reissued and i felt so bad that he faced so much problem. I learned the lesson since then ☺️

In USA we have the option of getting urgent passport if traveling within two weeks .It is a stressful process takes a whole day in person but the job gets done with double the fee.They require your ticket and usually goes only by appointments.Good luck .

Also almost all countries DO NOT allow visitors with a less than 6 months left in validity in the passport. So you could not have travelled to either Japan or back to US.

Aaawww that is so messed up and costly lesson. Wish you guys best of luck and thanks for sharing such experiences. I always carry a file with plastic sheets where I insert all the improtabt documents or such nature instead of lamination. That way documents remain safe and straight and in good condition. Khair, Jo hota hay Achay ke leye hota hay.. there must be some good hidden purpose behind this painful experience. Take care brother!

Hi, even in UAE for education certification verification and marriage verification, the degree certificates in India we had laminated, we had to un laminate it and get it done. Looks like this is something that is in Canada and US too...good luck....am sure all will turn out well. Do they have an un-lamination service? Its there in India.

I laminated my work permit. You can remove the lamination on your own by using an iron. Suggest you to watch some videos and you would be able to do it on your own.

Been there done that and it took such a long time for my first daughter’s birth certificate to arrive so that we can apply for her new birth certificate .It took 6 months for the birthday certificate to arrive because we did the guarantor’s signature of a friend where as a doc , vet or lawyers etc signature is required , literally this week Monday i was able to apply for her passport finally after such a long wait and can’t wait to travel again .

You may represent that it should be mentioned in the guidelines that laminated documents would not work. You can ask for duplicate copy of birth certificate from Quebec or school where cheeku got admitted, if you submitted that.

Wow lamination. Its sub continent thing. Degrees, documents, naturalization certificates never gets laminated. If you had just plastic covered they could cut and take it out. Good luck

I hope passport comes on time Ravish. I am annoyed and in panic mode listening to you. When we went to Japan (Sydney Australia to Japan ) in 2015 rule was children passport should be valid for Atleast 6 months. Please check entry requirements to Japan for children. I hope your plan will be successful and you all get to travel Japan.

I ordered 3 copies of birth certificate for my child 1 is laminated, other 2 are not. Lamination is an Indian thing, we get satisfaction 😁 I use other copies for anything to be done in Canada
