I had heard about this method before but totally forgot about it and stumbled onto one of his videos and like you, his thoughts and suggestions resonated with me. I really enjoyed your video and discovery. I too have tried the stacked golf style swing with some pretty good success. The issue I ran into and still from time to time run into is over analyzing the details of the swing and just get in my head with all sorts of thoughts. The swing style works best (at least in my experience) when I simply allow myself to "feel" like I'm staying on my left side and then only focusing on the target (very very important) and swing away. The logic in your mind allows you to automatically swing hands forward and not needing to shift the weight and worry about wrist flex and whatnot. Anyhoo, I've been plagued with my own thoughts and just yesterday after a horrible first 9 holes, discovered that I had gotten WAY away from stacked golf swing and out of frustration, made the adjustment and it was like putting on an old favorite leather jacket; it just felt right again. While it may not be a big deal to many, I ended up only shooting 4 over par for the 2nd nine holes and that's awesome for my game. Just thought I'd share. Really looking forward to your future content.

I’m now 66 years old and I began playing golf by accident when I was 15 due to a broken right leg. I actually played 27 holes a day with six clubs, a few golf balls . . . and using crutches. I was stack and tilt in 1973. Was not only able to spin my club spl golf balls back 2’-8’ but made my first hole in one that first year. No more baseball. . . hooked on golf. Played college golf, turned pro after school and am a pga life member. It’s the simplest way to swing a club. If I miss hit shots, it’s usually a thin shot. And ya know what we say about thin shots. Tom’s honesty and personality is very enlightening, entertaining and refreshing. I highly recommend that folks follow him.

Good to see you back Rob. I tried Stack and Tilt ( Saguto style) and yes it worked better than PGA style golf for me, yet my back did get rather sore. I tried a variant which encouraged " stillness" in the body and I found I could do that without the back issue. It was the Jim Venetos system. In time I have incorporate a slightly open stance ( ideas from Steve Jonson's Eureka swing) which helped with my alignment, and maybe when I am looking for a big draw with driver I try Marcus Edblad's method.
@Alan_Edwards2 жыл бұрын
Dude before I even noticed your comments I could see what had changed in your swing and I was not surprised you mentioned Tom Saguto. Sorry for the long comment, but I had to chime in on this one. This is from a senior golfer's perspective and someone who has been working on his swing a long time. I ran across a tip from Saguto a while back after spending the winter and most of the spring working on my swing and just not making good solid contact - or at least not consistently and I have always struggled to hit the ball first and take a divot. Plus it was not the smooth effortless swing I really wanted. I cannot recall what I searched for specifically but I saw a video from him on keeping you left arm straight (something I did not do) and putting your weight on the lead side. Well I was fricking amazed at how much better my ball striking got and I mean like immediately. I had not struck the ball that pure....pretty much ever. It was a game changer. He also encourages taking a more comfortable back swing and not trying to overturn which I was doing in spades which made for a very effort-full swing not effortless. But like you I have watched so many YT videos and been down so many rabbit holes I was leery to say the least. I also wanted that less complicated swing like you mentioned too. I chatted with Tom a bit and watched some other videos of his pretty much re-enforcing these main concepts and have spent the summer practicing in my yard - 150+ swings a day. Due to health issues and recent surgery, I was not able to use anything but my irons, but still the results seemed to be there - it was undeniable… this one single video had transformed my swing. I have never hit the ball so pure and the sound is nice and crisp. Plus the big one…it’s effortless, consistent and fricking fun. So far I have just hit mainly birdie balls (a very accurate feeling and flying limited flight ball that has proven to be very accurate) with an occasional real ball mixed in just to see if it’s the real deal and the game changer I was looking for - and it appears to be all of that. I just don't see to hit real bad shots anymore. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. Just so happens I will be taking my new swing to the course for the first time tomorrow. Just a small par 3 because I can’t swing a driver yet, but I am very confident it will go well and I will be on my way to breaking 80. I am not saying this will work for everyone because we are all different and one swing style might work for someone and not for others - I just know it worked for me. But I am a student of the game and practice junkie and retired so I have the time and desire it takes to work on my game. If all goes well I plan to become a member and see what else he has to offer. I'd love to get to a single digit Hcp if possible. Great stuff Rob and thanks for sharing. Nice to see this sort of validated by someone a lot better than me.

Saguto, seems a very popular way to play the game and I’m sure helps to improve strike. This is definitely a quick fix swing for amateurs. It’s like anything in this game however if you get too fixated on one part of the swing ie loading 85% of your weight over the lead side may work wonders at first but you may find it puts extra stress on the back and you could end up loosing much needed hip rotation. If the golf swing should be like throwing a ball, the natural way to do it wouldn’t be keeping 85% of the weight over you lead leg in doing so. Would be interesting to see how this pans out for you. I’m open to all ideas. Good luck 🍻

@davidwalters3132 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob. It seems remarkably similar to Rob Cheney’s wrench drill. I tried it for a while, initially with remarkable results. However on the course the draws became hooks and I gave up with it. Perhaps as amateurs correct weight transfer on the downswing is our biggest difficulty and keeping weight on the left side accounts for why most people , at least at first, find it great. But this was of course just my experience!
@richardtabloff17732 жыл бұрын
I like it, some months back I tried keeping my weight on my led foot and I was striking the irons very good, then I watched some instruction videos and everyone said not to do that, so I went back to trying it there way and it didn’t work for me. I’m excited to try it again your swing looks very simple and compact without a lot of moving around. Thank you for this tip, I will get back and let you know how it works for me. Questions do you do the same for Driver, fairway woods and hybrids ?. Can you tell your ball flight also draw or fade?Thank you.

I've been playing golf for a long time. I have that exact problem of "fanning the wrists" taking the club back. It's engrained now. So had come across that advice, I was told hands in and clubhead outside off the hands. Also tried stack and tilt a coulple of years ago. Worked for awhile but I tend to have a low ball flight and found long irons were too low. With driver staying stacked give me a fade to slice. Another golf pro teacher told me when I was having swing problems to imagine swinging as if I was in a barrel. So seems to be much along the lines of what you are saying. Looked a bit of a bleak, windy practice area 😀. Sometimes I wonder on practice area where you are hitting ball after ball have you just got into a nice rhytmn shot after shot. Then it's different on course. Another teaching pro said after a certain age it's just about rhytmn. Good luck with it all you put in some dedicated practice there. Interesting video.

So that’s what stack and tilt is eh? I’d heard the term plenty of times but never bothered to look into it. Interesting concept and you definitely looked like you were swinging well there Rob so best of luck with it 👍 Get a course vlog up soon. Think we’d all enjoy that. One thing you mentioned in the video was that your thin and heavy shots with the new method were happening when you felt like you rushed it or were pulling down excessively. I don’t use the method you were displaying but, after watching Xander Schauffele win at the Scottish Open in July, I have really concentrated on adopting his amazing tempo into my swing. Got my handicap down from 4.5 to 0.1 since then, shot under par a few times and had my lowest ever round of five under a couple of weeks ago so results have been great. Appreciate that it might be hard to incorporate another swing thought into your mind when you’re learning and trying to ingrain new patterns but it’s a simple, non technical thought that could be the final piece of the puzzle for you 👍

I have been very inconsistent after coming back to golf after 2 years of not playing, will give this a go. And it would be really nice to see you on the course with this swing.

Hello. As you were hitting balls into the sun, will you be investing in a ball tracker for our visual aid?

Strike is everything. I S&T also, and as soon as you mentioned Tom, I knew it was Sagutogolf... Don't let people discourage you. Strike is everything.

Hi Rob, I love the way you've got your weight going forward but as a lifelong inside-to-outer, I would be a bit wary of that club path at take away. My coach has me working much more vertical (hands higher at the top of the backswing), which seems to work for me.....but who am I to say! What a practice range you have... is that Norfolk or are you back in the south-west?

Haven't tried it yet but will be tmrw, looks a great way to help players who don't get weight transferred on to left side , almost guaranteed to finish swing, no sway is the way forward for me , Cheers for this.

Some elements of this swing are similar to Jim Venetos. JV’s swing is even more simple and easy to do. I highly recommend it. It has made golf fun for me again!

How is your swing thought in the down swing? How do you get the speed with this method?

I've been trying same thing with the weight forward and it worked for me too

Was always intrigued by this and the right side swing(different from stack and tilt, and hard to get detailed info about it but its on youtube). Seemed like an obvious way to do it for consistent low point and had a little success years ago but kind of lost the feel of it after a few rounds. This game is frustrating. Lol
